Stunning. This is what I think "trains on the moon" might look like..

I enjoyed watching this video. The scenery was great and fascinating with a tree here and a tree there. It was interesting thinking about the right-of-way being constructed. There are no access roads or wide spots. Everything had to be brought in from either end down the roadbed. That's a long way to back for a dump truck with a long wait for the next truck. Maybe they put the trucks on rail cars to move them to the dump site. I watched them do that with the light rail construction in Portland.

What a neat location! I'm sure it's quite a sight from the ground, but so much better when seen from the drone. Another great video, Dan.

WOW! What a beautiful "other" world landscape! Was that you and other railfans on that lava outcrop as the trains went by? The trains traveling through the lava fields were wonderful to see. Thank you very much for bringing this video out of the "vault" to share with us!

A bit scary,no roads nearby.Talk about isolation ,I would not ever see this section of the railroad. Thank you B.

Great footage. I recently did a movie on Newberry and recorded this track for a few moments. The train would have made it way more epic.

I'm right on top of it today Dan. Another great video. Whenever I go railfanning the cops chase me away.

    🌑 Moonscape!
Seriously loving the way you captured the light in between the cloud shadows on this one - that might make this my favorite of all the awesome vids you've done

Man I got stranded on a train out there a few years back. It was a long and painful walk to the hwy.

Don't you have to be on the train itself to get all this footage? Just curious.

Not many unfortunately. Anywhere from 4 to 6 in a 24 hour period normally.

Where'd all that lava come from

Lava Butte blew up 7000 years ago and left this lunar landscape behind, spectacular, otherworldly place to visit.
