I rented one in Puerto Rico and when I got the keys I was like wow what a beast of a vehicle. Then drove it around and litterally fell in love with it, a lot of impressive stuft to say the least.
lol No sir, you're definitely not the only one, and I'm sure there are millions of us out there doing the very same thing. lol Happy to be a new subscriber...thanks very much for sharing this info with us, it's much appreciated.
Love your videos!! We stopped in at the local dealership and looked at a JL Sahara today. I definitely love the look of the Rubi instead. My wife even said to the salesman "Why would you put those type of tires on a Jeep" while she was sitting in her 2012 JKU Rubi, 3" lift and 35" tires. Its her daily driver. I just chucked under my breath. All he could say was "I love your setup" Keep up with your videos. Can't wait to see what you did on the trail
I always tell myself if I jealous of someone or something 'I am a loser'. So I haven't but you guys what you do, where you live, how you enjoy. I am JEALOUS :) love watching your videos.
Just ordered a new 22 JLUR and I have really been enjoying watching your videos while I wait for what feels like an eternity. I also love that you are near Tahoe. I’m in Florida but originally from Reno and I so miss living out there so watching you content makes me feel like I’m right back there. Also, nice poster in the background of the last scene. Let’s go Brandon.
great video....love the ride review....trading in my 2006 hummer h-3, which i ordered new, loved this truck, just time for a new truck, ordered my rubicon, and i can not wait !!...love your videos and now will catch up and watch them !!!
Great video. My wife and I just started looking at Jeeps and it looks like your channel has everything we want to know about the new 18 JL Rubicon. Subscribed.
Thanks for letting me and my old armchair tag along for the ride Eddie and Cindy I was really quiet wasn't I? All joking apart we would be exactly the same if we'd just bought a brand new Jeep JL. I'm looking forward to watching how you get on with it and any future modifications. Thanks for sharing and keep on smiling.
Nice ride-a-long, almost like being there. Good shots of infotainment screen (its huge!) and auto/manual shifting to driver display. Love the way you greet and pet your vehicles 😉; I bet a lot of us do that with our Jeeps. When I first got my JKU I got up a couple times at night to make sure it was really there, I know the night time visit. Subscribed; keep up the good work. Now I’m gonna go buy a lottery ticket towards a JL...
LOL!! Well, we're glad that you didn't think what we were doing was silly. Because, what you saw is something we really do :) Glad you liked our JL Journal and hope that you'll continue to follow us along on this journey :)
Key fob with a switch blade key - but no where to use the key since you have the push button start. Does the door even have a keyhole? (Saw it at the end) Been enjoying your videos. I've lived in the area - Fallon and Fernley - way back in the 70's. Been back to Fallon many times since - still have relatives in the area. I test drove a JL Rubicon a couple weeks ago. Liked it - only one problem. Can't adjust the pedals - I have short legs and end up belly to the steering wheel to have comfortable and appropriate pedal pressure.
I love the look of the new JL. The interior looks very nice but I really do not like the red dash inserts. I hope they have other colors for the dash inserts.
For years, we've been running aftermarket exhausts on our JK's but we're hard pressed to want to run one on our JL being that what we have now really is soooooo much quieter.
Amazing videos! Thanks for the great content. I’m about to order my white JL Rubicon. Can’t decide between white or black roof. Have you noticed it gets hot in the summer with the black? Thanks :)
@@wayalife Thanks mate. I prefer the look of the black roof as it’s more Wrangler looking. Can’t wait to get mine. Thanks for the great content. Keep it up.

I have no idea if you actually see comments on videos this old but on the long shot you do, do you wish you held out for the EcoDiesel? I bought one a few months ago and love her.
There is a button that will allow you to turn it off but you need to press it every time you start your engine. I have heard that if you have a tow package, you can plug in a hitch light and that will cause your computer to think you are towing - this should disable the start stop as well. I intend to test this out.
Most of the negative reviews I've seen came from guys who came from cars or SUV's. I've owned Jeeps the better part of my life and compared to what I've had and still have, this is as good as they get.
Interesting thought about the steering... I drove two JL Rubicons and compared to my Tacoma I felt the steering needed almost twice the rotational movement per angle of front wheel movement compared to my Tacoma. A bit sloppy for me
Thanks for the overview! When you do mods to it can you explain why you went with what you did instead of what you've used in the past? I'm always interested to hear about parts and the choices behind them.
ratled1, Two weeks ago we traded our 2015 HR for a JLU Rubicon. The two Wranglers are like night and day. Mr. Mark Allen said his team analyzed everything and made changes. You must drive one for yourself, the differences cannot just be talked about. Be well.
I don't think so. As sacrilegious as it might sound, we're not as crazy about a diesel as most seem to be. As it is, the 2.0L turbo costs $3k more than a 3.6L and the 3.0L diesel is expect to come in at a $6k premium. That would put the JL Rubicon upwards of $60K.
What I can tell you is this. Cindy and I grew up driving a manual, it's what we know best and prefer to drive. That being said, yes, an automatic is better for playing on the rocks and the all new 8-speed that comes on the JL Wrangler is nothing short of amazing. I would highly recommend it for how well it performs.
Could always go old school and get a duffel bag. I had a Converse duffel when I was a gym rat back in college. All kidding aside, that is a stout key brick.
Curious how you feel about the auto stop/start after 3 to 6 months. I had a 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk that had that feature, it ended up driving me nuts, and became an extra button to push to turn that annoying unsafe technology off right after pushing the start button. If the auto stop/start on the new JL is anything like on the Cherokee Trailhawk (hopefully not), you will see delay’s with the auto startup after some built up mileage, seconds matter, seconds can save your life. Also, it is a hard hit on mechanical components. The battery died at 40k miles which was most likely due to the auto stop/start technology on board, which I guess isn’t a big deal, $200 plus to replace it.
To be honest, it's driving us nuts already. I've heard you can plug in a trailer light and that will disable it being that the computer will think you're towing. I intend to give this a try. If that doesn't work, I'm gonna hope that someone will come out with a programmer that will turn it off.
Hope for your sanity, somebody comes out with a hack for it! My Cherokee Trailhawk was bought back under the lemon law due to multiple Tranni issues, and other issues, that Reno Jeep could never/would never resolve. Yup, I live right next door to you in Reno ;-).. After the buyback, I got into a 2016 Rubi Hard Rock lifted with 35's, which I love. It’s day and night between the Cherokee Trailhawk’s ‘smart’ features and the 2016 Rubi, and NO auto stop/start anymore! Took me a while to stop going for that button to turn it off, haha! I miss the heated steering wheel though, great feature with the winters out here.
As in, the initials for Jet Li would be "J L". And, as in, this is a lighter and more nimble Wrangler over the JK before and will kickass on the trail ;)
Wayalife I figured it was for Jet Li. Just curious. And as iconic as the JK has become I was sure of the new JL at first but it has grown on me quicker than I thought. Nope. This is not to say that I don't love the way the 2-doors look, 4-doors are just better off road. I should note, this is coming from a guy who's owned and still owns 2-door Jeeps.
Wayalife hey buddy I spoke to Kevin from litebrite (Red JL “StepChild”) to stop that auto shut off is easy , just unplug the sensor under the hood or disable it using “Tazer JL”... either way works great ,, the Tazer JL lets you fully customize your stuff on the JL all the dash stuff all kinds of things .. anyway either way those 2 things stop the auto shut off...
@@PhatboyHD88 LOL - Since you seemed to have missed it, this video was posted over a year ago. You specifically asked if the dealer could shut it off and I said no. How’s the welds on your frame? Specifically on the front track bar bracket.
The welds are fine on our JL but we have seen a few people with some scary welds.
I can't wait to drive one. Think I'm going to wait to purchase the truck version depending on the pricing up here in Canada
Off topic but where'd you buy your white washed jeans from?
I love the look of the new JL. The interior looks very nice but I really do not like the red dash inserts. I hope they have other colors for the dash inserts.
The red only comes on Rubicon models and depending on the color of your JL. Some colors have a silver dash. Sahara's have a leather dash.
That's great! Thank you!

Hi! is that JL is special order, waiting 3 months to deliver?
We ordered ours as soon as the computers opened up back in October. From what I understand, the lead time is more like 8 weeks now.
Not a Jeep owner, but I do love your Jeep man. Sub button hit and like.

What IS the jeep wave?
I have no idea if you actually see comments on videos this old but on the long shot you do, do you wish you held out for the EcoDiesel? I bought one a few months ago and love her.
Nope, I have no interest in the diesel especially on a JL but congratulations to you and glad you love it! 😎
Can the start-stop feature be turned off? Seems like that would kill the engine prematurely.
There is a button that will allow you to turn it off but you need to press it every time you start your engine. I have heard that if you have a tow package, you can plug in a hitch light and that will cause your computer to think you are towing - this should disable the start stop as well. Cool haircut bro. I think I remember you as an extra in "Rumble in the Bronx".
Hello! I want to buy a 2018 unlimited wrangler. Is there difference on gas compare to the 2017-2016 unlimited wranglers?
Yes. More so on Sport and Sahara models but there is some MPG gains on Rubicons as well.
Wayalife Awesome! Thank you for the quick response.
Is it sill loud?? (Wind noise)
Compared to my 2 JK's running Trektops and half doors, no, this JL is super quite.
The transmission is the killer with the Jk for me. I wonder if we'll be able to put this 8-speed JL transmission into the JKs (?)

did you have to do the steering tsb?
We didn't to the TSB but only because there was such a long waiting list. We did some Synergy upgrades and they helped.
Oh my god I want it. I’ve been wanting a Jeep for 3 years now
Honestly, it's a good thing you've been waiting, this thing is the real deal right out of the box

ratled1, Good idea. I just thought that ( like me) you did not believe all the hype. I would watch that comparison as well .

Oh no, we still have Moby and Rubicat. They aren't going anywhere.
I don’t like that engine cut off,, cant you have the dealer shut it of in the ECM?
Unfortunately, no. All new vehicles come with it.
In other words, I'm well aware of the fixes you've mentioned and even have a video showing how to use the Tazer here ua-cam.com/video/81_evB9At3I/v-deo.html. That being said, I apologize for not taking the extra step and explaining what you've since learned elsewhere.
Wayalife Dam I’m sorry buddy my bad ,,, was just trying to help a fellow jeeper .. didn’t realize the video was that old again I apologize for wasting your time lol 😂
@@PhatboyHD88 LOL - It's all good and you haven't wasted anyone's time. Like I said, I should have taken the extra step to share what I know rather than just answering your question.
Nice! jealous! Looking forward to seeing you wheel her! Do you have a name for her yet?
Actually, we consider this JL to be a him - we named him Jet Li :)
Thanks for the great video.
And I was impressed in a nice garage.
Japan is not able to make a large garage because there is a narrow land.
We are lucky in that we do have a lot of land out there. If you can believe it, our neighbor has a garage 4x bigger than ours too :)
Wayalife
I long for the USA blessed with the very large land.
The very large land can enjoy jeep life above all.
I'm so jealous!
what kind of highway mpg does the new stock rubi get .with that new 8 spd.& rpm at 65 mph on level road ? thanks
Stock? You can easily get 20 MPG or more. With 37's, at least 16 MPG or maybe more.
Nice and shiny
Glad I’m not the only one who thought the fob was huge
