    Another Stellar shoot Richard, :)
    Love your work, very educational, still adding some gear to start, unfortunately, some other challenges have put me back another month or so
    How things change, a friend was escorted out from Bridport not that long ago due to flooding
    Thank you for your very informative post and must mention the pleasant viewing

    Great video, Richard, and another enthralling episode from your Tasmanian adventure. Just waiting for some clear skies here in the UK....we seem to be plagued with cloud and rain at the moment......itching to get the star tracker out again and capture the Milky Way before the end of the season. Thanks as always for the top quality content.

    That single shot with the light rays soaring pretty well summed up my emotional high watching your video, Richard. I think this is my favourite video from your road trip so far (although they're all pretty special). You come across natural, honest, and plainly love what you do (and so do I). Brilliant as usual Richard. A wee tip for you. I carry some Glad food covers (medium size) they look like shower caps, no weight in your bag, you can slip one over your camera if you think it is going to get wet. They are clear and you can see through them, they have elastic around the edge, if it is a bit windy you may need some additional tying down.

    Thanks again Richard, great video. It's amazing how there is always a new way to get a timelapse wrong. Despite having been doing timelapses for years, I managed to stuff one up at Milford Sound with an unlevel track so the horizon moved through about 10 degrees as the camera moved along the track. Simple oversight while being savaged by sand flies but enough to right off the entire sequence. As you mentioned, there is no end to this journey, just always learning more.

    Love the concept of just trying different techniques, I think we all have to avoid getting stuck in the “this is the way we do it*. Another great video Richard. Would love a review of practicalities when traveling one day (charging batteries etc) as I am sure you will have lot of practical solution without too much expense 😁

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Рік тому

      Yes I see this as a common thread amongst nightscape photographers. . the lack of experimentation. That's how we learn so much. I do have the odd stay in accommodation to refresh and re-charge . .literally ..!!!

  • @GrowPhotography
    @GrowPhotography Рік тому +6

    Wow, can't believe how much you've managed to squeeze into this trip chasing the clear night skies. Loved your midnight tailgate commentary on there being no right and wrong approach to photographing nightscapes, just what works for you in the moment. It's interesting how nightscape photographers seem to get held more accountable than deep sky photographers when it comes to editing and how much is too much 😁. Maybe it's because we try to compare it to daylight landscape photography, or to what the eye can see versus what the camera can see. Quick question on the timelapse as I can't make the maths work - you mentioned the timelapse will run for 5 hours but 800 images at 15 seconds interval is well short of this time period, what am I missing?

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Рік тому +1

      Yes I just did the maths myself . .perhaps I had it set to 20 seconds ..!! I can't remember now. Yes we do tend to get stuck in a rut regarding our photography, and I agree that it's odd how we get judged based on different standards to other forms of photography.

    • @newage3
      @newage3 Рік тому

      OK sweet time lapse - Did you use the same exposure settings for every shot (ISO, F stop, shutter speed) or are you using shutter ramping as I can`t work out how the first part is exposed correctly and then later the night sky (Milkyway) is exposed correctly, I thought you would of needed longer exposures as the night got darker -

    Great inspirational video Richard, especially the bit about the different styles and getting out and giving it a go.
    I mentioned to you during the week that I completely missed or lost focus when fitting a lens warmer during a 2-hour, 12 x 4 row tracked sky and foreground panorama, but I still had a blast just being out under a clear dark winter sky in the silence of outback NSW @ 2am in the morning.
    Still a lot to learn, especially how to emulate your wonderful foregrounds, but Tassie does help a bit I reckon.

    Feel like you are getting some serious mileage out of this trip to Tassie. Will just about have to come home for a rest! Fantastic stuff!
    Good job on pointing out the artistic element of this genre. I must admit I struggle with enjoying composites of a milky way sky taken at a different place and time to the foreground, other than that I think it's all within range. Like you say, none of it is visible to the naked eye so by definition we're dealing with the unseen. So much of it is about the process and journey of producing the image.

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Рік тому

    For the day to night Timelapse - how do you manage the focus (and iso) before the stars are showing, given the Nikon focus by wire system? Hats off to you not getting the Heebie Jeebies on the trail at night- I jump if a squirrel breaks wind, let alone worrying about snakes and things you get down under!

    Hi Richard, At the 16.00 minute mark you show your tracked image EXIF. 4 x Tracked Sky Panorama @ f/2.8 60 seconds 1600 ISO. Do you mean you shot 4 panels to cover the sky then stitched them or do you mean 4 tracked and stacked images? Great results in Tassie as it never seems to fail your annual adventure 👌😎👍

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Рік тому

      Just standard single frame panorama Geoff. I rarely stack tracked shots these days ... Maybe Orion but never galactic core. Just one more video to come from Tassie . .but that may have to wait til I get the Benro Polaris first thoughts video done.

      Thanks again for looking. I set my Nikon Z6ii to "P" Program Mode with Auto iso. But I probably could have gotten the same result win Aperture Priority mode as it was pretty late when I began the sequence.
