Great vid! Looking forward to the next ones! A couple notes on magic items : - Destroyer of Eternities really shines on a herald imo, as they have a 75 pts magic items allowance. They're usually lackluster in combat because of 2 attacks at WS 4, but d6 hits at S6 AP -2 with killing blow isn't too shabby for 135 pts. - Likewise, the serpent staff looks nice on an illusion priest. The doppelganger spell becomes 2d6 S5 AP-2 poisoned hits, pretty good as far as damage spells go
And that herald is gonna die before swinging. If at least it didnt have ASL... Sadly, Destroyer of Eternities has always been a cool weapon, but never a good one.
@@detorrV2 It wasn't strike last in 8th edition, so whilst taking it made the TK a bit of a glass cannon it was really cool to have Heroic Killing Blow. My TK rarely died honestly, but he did kill a bunch of monsters and characters xD
I run lizards too, though I'm picking up the tomb king starter box. Steve said he ran a practice game with Lizardmen so hopefully we will see them in action here.
I picked up TK as soon as it came out in 8th. had only ever played Wood Elves and Chaos, so I wanted something that could cover all phases and be a little less elite army, where I would even be able to field large units. Man was I disappointed. That army book was such rubbish. My group played Tournament level games and I soon learned to not field my TK's. Now, I never minded that they weren't very strong. What I did mind was the lack of fun! All synergies were blocked off. No cool combo's. And to top it off, TK's had to cast spells to be able to move as well any other army. but this book SOUNDS fun. There's some fun stuff in there, no contingencies. Crown of Kings. Yes! that's the fantasy, to be able to resurrect guys. It's not about strength, it's about fulfilling a fantasy. And this book SOUNDS like it's all about that. Now let's just hope GW can keep its power creep in its pants. Cause that's something they tend to do in every game, every edition: Later armies get stronger. That's why I like the Ravening Hordes booklets so much. It's probably forced the designers to pit the armies against each other and look across the table and compare special rules and point costs.
I played a little bit when 6e was a thing, so with TOW I'm very much looking forward to try out fun stuff. At first glance it looks like they fixed Entombed Beneath The Sands to not have the possibility of a major feelsbad anymore. So with From Beneath The Sands I'll try a High Priest with the Cloak of the Dunes + Scarab Brooch to zoom around the battlefield (27" range if my math is correct) and spawn scorpions and snakes.

Sphinxes seem much more fragile now with T6 instead if T8. The bone giant seems to be a better choice as it is stronger and has more wounds and has a smaller base size. I was thinking about putting a king or prince on my sphinx just to make the model viable by giving it extra wounds.
With the Destroyer of Eternities you’re likely to miss one of the four attacks at least so you’re 50% to get better, 1/6 to be the same and 1/3 to be worse
take it on the herald . he has 1 less attack and he was 2 less weapon skill so the auto D6 hit makes since on him. just a idea since he can take 75 points of items
I ran an all chariot/mounted TK army in 7th. It was so badass and fun. Turn 1 charges with Carrion. Flank charges all day. Good times. Definitely going to try it with the new list. Not sure how good it will be but again, fun.
Im happy to hear that you dont expect the khemrians to be as overpowered as they were in the last edition. 😝 Great review! For every one of these I watch, I feel like starting that army! 😄
So fun fact with casket. If I’m not mistaken due to the wording it’s own bound spells get the effect of the +1 meaning they are effectively a bound 4 spell, which is fun
Also for the banner that does damage back, I hear it as just 1 ld check no matter what and then you take xd3 hits, with x being the losses so it’s not too bad
@@grlmgoryea just re-read it and heard it. It’s a case of if 5 guys die, you lake a leadership test, if you fail you take 5d3 hits at s2 ap 0. As it’s d3 hits per guy who has lost its final wound that phase, but not multiple tests due to the “one or more” at the beginning
@@grlmgor exact wording is “the enemy unit suffers d3 strength 2 hits at ap -, per model that lost its last wound”, how I read that is it’s d3 hits per model slain and no idea how you got ap gain involved with it (this is right off the book page btw)
The statlines don't look much different to 8th so presumably it is just the regeneration across the army that would make them more viable than in 8th? Hard to say if that is enough given they have lost a few things like the automatic MWBD where the Tomb King gave a unit his WS for free as well as characters like Khalida who were vital for the shooting lists. Also fear being a weaker rule could hurt them. To stand up to dwarfs or chaos it's going to have to be all about the monsters, and the list building is fairly restrictive.
Fear can now prevent charges all together, plus regen+ one rank combat means your skeleton bricks will last so much longer. Arise on liche priests can be powerful when spammed, bring back 4 wounds on an ushabti without rolling is awesome.
As someone who played tomb kings in 8th, it wasn't the stats that were really the problem. More it was the presence of things like the purple sun and the elves strike first meta, and tomb kings relying on toughness and high wounds to mitigate damage. Toughness 8 sounded great when it meant Str 4 couldn't hurt you (6th and maybe 7th ed), but didn't cut it when you only had a 5+ save to mitigate massed bowfire.
Bone Dragon looks... odd to me. Like it doesn't quite fit for some reason, but it could just be because it's new for TOW and didn't exist in 8th edition. Looking forward to it though, pre-ordered my TK box
@shiftandrew I figured it would be less then 5 but all the new rules begins to scrabble my brain. The only problem I can see with a horsemen bus is fitting them into the deployment zone😁

By all means reference me a page and i can give it a look but just curious.
It's a cool model but it doesn't really fit with the rest of the TK aesthetic either. I would've preferred if it was something more fitting the ancient egypt vibe as a giant crocodile construct, a sand worm or maybe a scarab.

does arrows of asaph benefit from +1 to hit large targets? Is the unmodifiable 5+ just for range etc? and what about single targets?
It stays unmodifiable negative and positive modifiers do not effect it.
