Mr. Blair seems to have the faster car, but gets stuck on the long way around. Love the sound of the flathead V8. Also listen to the transmission whine from the gears meshing. Gotta love it!

Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you very much....I'll post more Flathead videos later. The Black #2 that I am driving is like the one my Daddy drove back in the 40's and that is the reason I do it.

decades ago i bought a 39 Std coupe ,which had a nice running C59A in it. No interior and plenty of bondo under the blue paint. it had been raced by a guy Called Red Dawson in New Zealand ,and was his first race car . This car was my only car so was driven all the time on the street ...!. The only time i got really beat in the stop light races was when i was taking on a porker 911 and I spat the gear cluster on to the road. Your engine sounds a lot like mine. my gears whined too but they had years of abuse on them. i used a 36 straight cut gear set so it was pretty loud.

Reminds me a little of the great racing we had in the '50s at tracks like Hemlock Fairgrounds, Monroe County Frgnds. and Canandaigua Frgrnds. Great drivers too. Dutch Hoag in #96, Elmer Musclow in #18, Jerry Earl in #7, Lee Bliss in #34, Fran Jischke in #51, Billy Rafter in #22, Billy Wimble in #33, Irish Jack Murphy in #6, Jim Hurtubise in #56. Hoag, Rafter, Wimble and Hurtubise all had a go at the big time at either Daytona or Indy. Great fun watching these guys drive!

Although it says this is a 10-year-old race video, I was surprised to see 1940's Fords with Flattey engines still racing. I wonder what the build limitations on those flatheads were, or was it the track size that limited the passing speeds?

The engines are flathead Fords...290 max cu in......modifies can have multi carbs, like the #2 car, which is a Modified. The Sportsman are limited to a two barrel carb and intake....max, weight is 2,800 lbs. with driver. Must use original slider springs...can use disc brakes and modern shocks....8 point roll-cage...modern race seat with 5 way safety belt harness...fuel cell. Try to keep the car as vintage as possible, but safety is our main concern, as our rules reflect. Thanks for asking.
