Three things people playing Diff 7 and above should keep in mind: 1. You do not have to pick a fight with every patrol you see. 2. You do not have to win every fight you get into. Sometimes its better to run away from a fight than waste half your team's reinforcement budget with nothing to show for it. 3. If you do have to start something, as much as possible, don't be around when the reinforcements come investigating.
Is THAT why??? They should make that clearer to players. I hadn't noticed both things happening at the same time, so whenever it leaves as soon as one person enters, we always thought it was a bug, since it still gives the "leaving in 20 seconds" dialogue. I still think it may be a bug for that reason..
In my experience, the gem icon on the map just means MPOI, and if you collected a sample it will be replaced by the check mark, although if there are no sampleds there at all, it will stay a gem for supplies that are there. Thats my observation not sure if its right.

it took 150 hrs for me to experience this once, but the pelican can be damaged and smoking, and it only allows one helldiver to extract :(

On the default warbond, the slugger is probably the best weapon IMO. It one shots devastators with headshots, plus has really long range.
Diligence counter sniper can now do it after the buff.
