    Just took a 600 mile road trip with an Ioniq 5, used four EA stations and had no major issues. The first 3 stops were flawless. At the last one, there was a session fault about 3 minutes into the charge. I just had to unplug and replug. Besides that minor inconvenience, no issues whatsoever.

    I absolutely love my Lightning, and yes, I use it daily for work...as a work truck. Have driven over 6000 miles (in 3 months) and only fast charged 1 time. Now, I have decided that if I were to do regular long-distance towing, I would go diesel.

    I was seriously happy when they put out the f150 lightning because it looks like a normal and useful truck. I was considering it until I saw this video and others about towing with the lightning. Thank you for saving me $$$. I'll stick to a truck that can be used as a real truck without the anxiety of getting a recharge. Also spending all that quality time at a charging station while on vacation, wow... so much fun... if it took me 20 minutes to fill up only 10% battery I'd go mad. The high cost of gas over electricity is worth my time and mental state while on a long trip. Seems like electrics are only useful as commuter cars, for now. I'll give it another 10 years then maybe reconsider.

      If/when Cybertruck gets here I think we’ll see a mind blowing charge rate, that’s what’s causing the delay. They’re trying to figure out how to charge 3x the battery in the same amount of time (hint:it involves a 450 kw/hr charge rate which many companies are working on) also solid state batteries will alleviate many of these 2nd gen EV problems as they will charge much faster. For now, if you work out of it; towing or hauling a load daily it’s either gas or diesel.

    Those freewires have a 160kwh battery in them. Charges at a fast level2 rate but delivers 150kw on 1 or 75 kw on 2. It charges using 240, might be fun to have one of those at the house. For the times you need to slam some power into it while in your garage VS waiting for a level 2. Best part is that since the machine charges at a level2 rate, so you only pay level 2 prices at your house for fast charging!

      @richardk6291 . Possibly. I could see a move away from electric storage batteries in the future if we figure out a way to synthesize liquid hydrocarbon fuels. Net zero carbon means. Then all you need is fuel cells to convert that to electricity. Any process they come up with not involving a flame will be way more efficient. I have a feeling my not yet conceived grandkids will be the ones to see electric propulsion vehicles reach a level where buying ICE vehicles makes no sense.

      The mile per battery percentage is not a logical unit for discussion or comparison as it would change depending on the battery size in the vehicle and its efficiency. The only factor that would have to do with 'acceptability' is what the kilowatt per mile is relative to other electric vehicles towing the same load. There is no relevance to the "vehicle size" miles per kilowatt in this use case (which is currently about as extreme as it gets for EVs).

    • @skyemalcolm
      @skyemalcolm Рік тому

      @@PatrixBest it’s possible winter towing won’t be much worse. That’s because summer towing required Ford to install a second cooling unit to keep the battery cool. So unlike 99% of EV travel in the winter with an ice cold battery running at low power output a winter tow might hammer a enough power through the battery to keep it at 25-30 C where these batteries like to be and store the nominal amount of energy.
