Gosh to be a kid again. I remember begging my dad to buy this for the Wii expecting it to be the same as the versions I saw on YT at the time. Still enjoyed and had fun as a kid regardless but not a very memorable story
I remember playing this on the 3ds. As a Wii game, this game absolutely sucks. As a 3ds game, it's not so bad, but you should still just play mario kart 7 instead.
@@alejandroatencio8661Not really an excuse for mediocre portable racer when the psp got stuff like full fat versions of Midnight Club, Burnout, Flatout, and Split Second. PSP got a lot of great original and ports of various racing series. Only NFS was rather shit on the psp and ds for some reasons. 3DS is a more capable handheld in power and graphical power. This game is generally just boring on the 3ds and worst on the wii.
@@waterheart95EA never cared to create decent handheld ports and adaptations from NFS games. Every time they put a low budget studio with low time to create the PSP and DS games, Prostreet was the only game which are similar to the console versions on DS.

I always hated it when UA-cam recommended shitty low view count videos of small channels but for once it ended up being a great video ! Keep it up man, subscribed.
I'm happy they recommended this channel too as I like more analytical videos. When YT recommends a small channel, it's either gameplay with no commentary or gameplay with mindless speaking.
What made Wii games terrible was the forced use of motion controls, I hated having to play my favorite titles with motion controls, Sonic Unl, Sonic riders and Mario kart
Fun fact: Mick Gordon wrote a chunk of the music for the port, including the NFS2 Menu remix. Humble beginnings I guess. And holy shit hearing Ferrari Challenge's menu music again... Nostalgia is a strong drug. The comic book story was also imo a nice touch in The Run.
I remeber growing up with this disaster on the wii along with the hot pursuit port and recently reflected on how out of touch these ports were, at least it kept me entertained for about a few weeks but damn was it horrible xD
I had Need For Speed Carbon on the Wii and to this day it's one of my fave racing games. I vividly remember the vast customisation options blowing my mind when I was a kid haha
I remember the times that games used to have barriers. Now they have world barriers we can free roam in the whole world. We just can't go past the barrier 😅
Oh man thank you for covering this. I could never find the NFS game I played on my Wii and it drove me mad and convinced myself it wasn't actually an NFS game, yet here it is.
Very well crafted video, I had the Wii and I also had a bit of an infatuation with the run as I saw gameplay of it during the early days of youtube. Glad I didn't try it on the Wii tho looks like a horror show lol. That ferrari challenge score is phenomenal, I wonder how many other obscure games are out there with one aspect that's needlessly good that are just lost in time
I remember getting need for speed Hot pursuit and driver san Francisco for the wii and being so confused by them being completely different games to what I was expecting 😂 driver SF on the Wii was fun though
THIS was hilarious. I had Hot Pursuit and Nitro on the Wii, and thought they were pretty good for being ports, but I knew HP was the real thing. For what it was, it was decent. I'd give it another try.
The main version of The Run is in my opinion the most underrated racing game. It's not the best NFS but it is not the heap of shit everyone says it is. Some of my favourite set pieces in all racing games are from the main The Run. It's a crying shame we never got another game like it. It really is unique in a genre that is getting more and more homogenous as time goes on.
Wonderful vid! I always found it fascinating how developers work around the Wii's... unique control scheme to say the least. There's so many hidden gems in there as a lot of them were able to go all out as they'd only be focusing on the Wii with it's limited capabilities, rather than having to develop for one of the big consoles or PC. That limited scope, and unique platform breeds a lot of cool experiences and experimentation, as there is no possible way to make a direct port (at least usually!). This however... why... why a DS game on a home console...
I remenber Hot Poursuit on my Wii and it was so good... Yes it was a strange mix between Mario kart and Need for Speed but that made it fit perfectly with the Wii
1) Ebla (the Ferrari game intro Song) goes so fucking hard I had to download it 15 years after playing that goddamn game as a kid 2) the physics of Ferrari challenge are actually pretty ok considering the hardware. ik it's not intuitive but those cars ARE boats. 1500kg on a 500hp car with street tires? You're basically asking for understeer on entry and oversteer on throttle, that's just how it works 3) great video, I basically played the same potato games as a kid and really enjoyed them (turned me into a simr*cist but whatever)
4:16 you may be wondering that fireband games (along with Nadeo) also made Trackmania Wii and DS despite they intentionally made author times almost impossible via code in DS version
11:31 i still own the sequel (Ferrari The Race Experiences, although its more of a "complete edition" of Trofeo Pirelli, aka same exact game) on my Wii, I cant ever hate it 12:27 not Just the menu music, but all of the songs in this game (and FTRE) are fucking AMAZING, from maximo park to the chemical brothers, to a good amount of obscure shit that goes way too hard Edit: forgot one of the best features in this game, aside from the pretty good livery editor (for its time and platform), the card game Is insanely fun, Imagine It they made It as a proper TCG. Oh and like the livery editor/dealership/car menu, its where the Chemical Brothers menu song plays
I was a little kid when I played Ferrari Challenge and I remember three things, The soundtrack was amazing, unlocking cars was hard, and the driving physics were hard
@Vtoq the physics have this floatiness that's insanely fun for some reason, you can throw cars around like its nothing, especially race cars like the F333SP. Compare It to something else Eutechnyx made, like Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift, and the handling Is night and day
Nfs the run is on the 3DS, not the standard DS, the standard DS wouldn't handle nfs the run's graphics on the 3DS. The graphics engine the 3DS version is powered by octane, Firebrands inhouse engine.
played it again some years ago and was shocked by the shitty graphics thaht i found realistic when i was a kid lmaoo but the cartoon type cutscenes and ther storei was really cool, the Boss 302 is what made my taste of cars go from luxury sports car to muscle cars
7:35 you're going about it wrong. You just need more points. Accelerate and break, that's how I won most races. You get out of range of the cops and your team gets awarded points for it.
where exactly did you get the idea that the game was in active development for 3 whole years? 3 years between Undercover and The Run doesn't mean they were working on it from the moment Undercover came out. There's also the fact that Blackbox were working on multiple games at once (like during Undercover's development.)

Try playing NFS: Pro Street on the PSP if you ever get the chance. I remember it being even worse.
The Game is not that Bad, the thing is, it's a portable console Game in a old gen tv console this Port could be better on the Wii

Ferrari Challenge game on the Wii, Xcite Truck something something, and NFS Nitro..... memories unlocked!
"eXcite: Truck!" is absolutely incredible. If you S Rank every race you get stars on your username 😂
Thoroughly enjoyed Ferrari challenge with the wii wheel. Need to get it back out
the soundtrack from this game is absolute PERFECTION
It was the 3DS version btw, not the DS.
I remeber growing up with this disaster on the wii along with the hot pursuit port and recently reflected on how out of touch these ports were, at least it kept me entertained for about a few weeks but damn was it horrible xD
That whipcrack sound effect was quite a nice touch as a nod to Johnny Test.

FlatOut for the Wii, not developed by the amazing developers who gave is FlatOut 1, 2, Ultimate Carnage, and Wreckfest.
Oh man thank you for covering this. I could never find the NFS game I played on my Wii and it drove me mad and convinced myself it wasn't actually an NFS game, yet here it is.
FireBrand: Hey, I need a menu/intro song for this shitty "simcade" port, no need to be all fancy

1) Ebla (the Ferrari game intro Song) goes so fucking hard I had to download it 15 years after playing that goddamn game as a kid

The 3DS version was decent. It was basically a portable version of the Wii one.
Ah yes a disaster version just like the hot pursuit wii.
