Her mother died the day after Michaela. She died due to complications from a surgery prep procedure . She didn’t know that Michaela had died the day before.

When I first read her story several years ago I was moved to tears. I am deeply saddened that she has now passed away at such a young age. Her parents were heroes as well. Her adoptive mother died a day later not knowing that Michaela had passed.

She died on Friday the 13th. Her mother is dead, too. They died HOURS apart... now all three are gone. Dad died in 2020, which greatly affected her.

I first saw her in a documentary done many years ago about young and upcoming young dancers. She was one of the dancers featured in the program. I remember thinking then, that she was unique and beautiful. She had such a graceful and lovely quality about her dancing that I felt really made her stand out. I had great hopes for her, and I am so glad that she did have a fulfilling career albeit, cut off because of this tragedy. In the movie, her adoptive family - her mother, specially, talked about hand sewing all her dance outfits…so loving and supportive. I understand that her adoptive mother actually passed around the same time, making this a double-tragedy. I pray for her sister and family members, who must be reeling from grief. She reminded me of a butterfly when she danced. I understand that she was inspired to become a ballerina after a photo she saw as a child…she was and became much more beautiful and inspiring than the picture she cherished. I pray she is dancing with her mother in Heaven.
Her mother died less than 24 hrs after her without knowing she died. She had complications due to a surgery. Heart breaking indeed.😢

This is very upsetting to me. My daughter had a heart condition that she got surgery for. It was a condition that caused her heart to beat very fast. She would past out many times. She was diagnosed when she was 14 years old and had the surgery at age 33. I'm not sure what kind of heart condition she had but early detection is important. Rest in peace Michaela.
Wolff Parkinson White is deadly. It is an abnormal electric impulse in the heart which sent my heartbeat to over 200 beats per minute…The double cardiac ablation saved my life. I still don’t see how her doctors and dance company didn’t notice the high heart rate.
So sad that a woman who looked like she was in great shape, died so young of a heart condition she was not aware of. May God bless her soul. This is so sad.

many of these dances develop heart conditions due to their diet and needing to remain very thin. I hope this wasn't the case with her.

She was told her mother had died when she was just a baby, she had only learned her mother just recently passed away and had been alive through her life.

Heart disease Is actually the Number One killer of women because It Is under-diagnosed, mis-diagnosed or unrecognized because MOST research for It Is done on men. I call BS! She was part of multiple dance companies that would have required full physicals. A heart condition would have been noticed early on due to the physical demands her art requires.
An undiagnosed heart condition almost killed my father. Fortunately it was repaired through surgery and treated with medication. Aware that his condition could be inherited, my sister was diagnosed early and had successful surgery. Neither of them showed early symptoms. Both had numerous physicals and led active lives. The hardships Ms DePrince suffered in her childhood could have been a factor. She was an amazing person and dancer. Condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
What a horrible comment to write, accusing a grieving family of lying. It is none of our business how Michaela died, all us fans need to do is continue to share her light so that her legacy lives on. For what it's worth, my childhood friend was a vocational musical theatre student, with an undiagnosed heart condition until her late teenage years. Since then I've lost count of how many open heart surgeries she's had. You speak like an expert on heart disease but you clearly have minimal experience. My friend campaigned successfully for every student in our college to receive a free heart check- perhaps a better use of time and energy than spreading toxic ideas.
