I had a 2012 CT200h for over 3 years. My average fuel consumption was 4.8 on the screen, 5.0 when I calculated it myself every fill up. I drove 75% of the time in highway, 25% in the city or traffic jam highway. When driven a lot in the city, it easily went down to 4.4 or even less (4.0 was my best average ever). My highest average was 5.5, pushing it harder, and also it was winter. I'd say if you get 8 l/100km you are probably stepping on it too hard, in a way that doesn't take advantage of the hybrid system to save fuel. I used to drive at 120km/h (legal limit in my country, Spain), and use the cruise control a lot. This car has a very soothing, relaxing driving style. It leads you to it. Some cars provoke you to push them harder, this one makes you want to drive relaxed. Also, a painted plastic bumper, can't get rusted. Maybe some little rock hit the paint of your bumper, and damaged it.
Also, you say it's a loud car, regarding wind noise and all. My CT was exceptionally silent to me. I haven't had premium german cars to compare them, though.
Interesting review, thanks for the contribution. To the exterior, I'm in the CT200h golf club (around 137 members, mostly from German and Slavic speaking countries) and I don't know anyone having "rust problem", especially on front/rear bumbers because rear is not even made with metal, it's plastic. Especially Lexus has minimum of rust/corrosion problems unlike it's mother company Toyota. MB and VW by far are easily prone to get corrosion under the paint in the back (the boot/5th door). Although CT200h is the cheapest Lexus, material used in the car is pretty over the expectation, very silent in its class, I have driven many German hatchbacks same category as the CT200h (I also own VW VI GTI), if it's MB A class, VW Polo or Golf, BMW 1 series, they're far from being as good as the CT200h. Especially the VW Polo sedan hybrid and Golf hybrid are very faulty, Polo hybrid is a catastrophe, everything is wrong with it, even A/C breaks off...Golf Hybrid (GTE) has pretty much silly electronics problems, and it's a Plug-in Hybrid, the Prius gen4 Plug-in Hybrid is seriously flawless, except the ugly back design 😅. Engine is a 1.8L V4 from Toyota Prius 3rd gen, very well known for going up to million of kilometres without problems. And the US taxi drivers, or Polish (they use Auris, same engine) or Russian Police (Prius 3rd gen used by City Patrol) can tell you a lot about it. I have a 2011 CT200h and I'm first owner, I drove as taxi driver until 2020, now I'm retired. 610 000 km without any major issues. The only problem was just cosmetic, the plastic cover under the engine compartment was loose, changed the plastic screws and all ok. Only oil changes and brake pads 13x times during my ownership. I had only joy with MB A220 and VW Golf VI GTI, but as far as I felt, the slow, robust and fuel efficient CT200h was love, the low drag coefficient and very hard suspension never made me afraid to drive through the medium hard corners with 110 km/h, with Golf I already had a wobbling feelings on the steering wheel at 90 km/h and light rattling after 3 years, the plastic cup holder started to be an annoyance that cannot be fixed. This year I was deciding to buy a second car for vacations. I was prepared to buy the 2021 MB S Klasse, in the end I decided for a 2021 Lexus ES350, ordered from Lexus Hamburg, because my little CT200h and my wife's Lexus IS300h convinced me about the Japanese quality, although I can't say I like the Interior of ES, the S Klasse's interior is by far for Europeans and likeable, but still, I'm glad that I decided for another Lexus. And my son got his Toyota Yaris GR. It's an absolute masterpiece of automotive industry! The "legendary" German quality "Deutsche Qualität" is long forgotten... The quality went terribly down, the Germans still believe they're doing well made products, but that's just not coping with reality. The head of VW argued it because of the EU regulations, making the Automotive industry to make drastic measures. But the Japanese are still living to their reliability reputation and even the French are now on par or even better than Germans. Romanians, Koreans and Americans are on the Rise again, especially Kia is doing a great work balancing modernity with practicality in their cars. Edit: I forgot to mention that my fuel consumption was 40/60 city/highways around 4 L/100km Summer; 4,7 Winter during first 6 years, I noticed since 2018 the car consumed 4,3 and in Winter 5,4. Battery capacity checked in 2021 84% of its max capacity, pretty solid batteries!
Thank you for this comment. I appreciate the effort you put into writing about your experience. I know it’s genuine and it’s really helped cement my decision in getting this car. I just wanted something reliable (I’ve currently got a vw golf with lots of problems) but also a car that actually looked nice. You are right the prius has an ugly back. I love that this car has similarities in the way it works like a Prius as the Prius is the most reliable hybrid, but it looks much nicer. In my country the CT200h also sells for a good price. I’m glad this car did you well. Thanks again.
Hello. At the moment im looking to buy ct200h 2011. Looking at fuel consumption would you recommend it for 300 km rides with the top speed of 100 km/h?
purchased a CT200H for my daughter after much research, its a great car, reliable granted its not a fast car if you are trying to get to from 0-60 quickly. That was the primary reason for buying the car, it's serves a purpose, getting from A to B safely, quietly and most importantly economically. Thus far it has done its job extremely well; PS: re. Rust, I can assure - we don't get rust spots on plastic fender panel, perhaps its stains or dirt that my look like rust;
Could also be surface rust from ferrous particulate adhered to chassis surface. Use an iron remover or wheel cleaner with light agitation to see if it comes off.
Thanks for your review. You had some good and fair comments, but also some very misleading ones too. Your rust comment is a joke. Those tiny rusty flecks on the PLASTIC panel are brake dust. A 5 minute clay bar wipe, followed by good wax will keep it looking like new. I have 180,000 km on my 2012 CT200h, same colour as yours and same specs. 80% of my mileage is at 120 kph on highways. Lifetime average is 5.4l/100km. If your engine is constantly revving on the highway, as you say, then you are probably trying to cruise at 200 kph. The CT200h is not an AMG Merc and its sweet spot for economy is in the 80-120kph range. You need to maintain any car. Mirror judder is likely due to lack of maintenance. Grease in the mechanism has probably dried out. Your wheel issue is an odd one. It would have been nice if you had zoomed in to show your audience what you are talking about. From what I could see, your wheels looked fine. On the other hand, my 5 year old E39 BMW M5, back in 2007, required a $4000 brake replacement, numerous broken rocker switches in the dashboard, $1000 MAF sensors replacement, a $200 security system sensor replacement. All while driving only 3000 km per year and only in summer. It was awful. Sold it and never looked back. I love my reliable Lexus and have a new NX 450h+ on order.
Hi guys, sorry for the lower quality audio and “short” review. I’ve had to refilm as previous review audio didn’t record. Only noticed that a few hours before selling a car, so it was bit rushed. You get this “chill” feel with a hybrid that affects your driving for the better. Like, you don’t want to rush no more. A very cool feel. I’ve changed CT 200h to IS 300h since (UX / NX were also considered) and will do a review after some time. Also, still looking to buy LC 500 for a review but none are found at reasonable price.
Lexus is the most quiet vehicle to drive. Especially this one in particular. All I drive is Lexus and this one for sure is extremely quiet, reliable and gets 40+ miles per gallon. And I havent seen any Lexus that had rust issues unless its an aftermarket paint. I don’t know many (if any) vehicles that are built better than lexus vehicles, which is why they have the best resell vaue and reliability.
Hey, this might be luck thing, I currently have LC500 + IS (pending reviews) they too had some issues, and some (LC500) noise issues that even my budget cars didn't have. Of course, I buy clean titles only from authorized dealer only with full records and history.
Disagree with you. Noise: it's actually quite silent. Not Mersedes silent but good enough. Fuel consumption: Something wrong with your car, man. I get 4.3 liters per 100 km on highway. Cheap summer tires. Rust: they don't rust except after an accident. Dealer maintained does not mean it was never crashed. Plastic bumpers do not rust at all.
@@agreatd Our CT consumption never reached +6 l/100 km, not even driving in autobahn at 160-170 km/h long distances. If your consumption is that high I guess is bc you drive the car in B mode or just constantly accelerate and brake which is the most inefficient way to drive any car.
@@agreatd There's definitely something wrong with the drivestyle. My 2011 Lexus (first owner, bought new) never went over 5,6 L/100 km/h on highways. In the city during Spring/Autumn I can still make 4.1 L/100 km/h on the countryroads with 90 km/h. And, battery capacity after 11 years still 84% from max capacity. The engine is the same of the Prius 3rd gen, and the American Taxi drivers can drive them over millions of Km without major issues.
I disagree in a lot of your assesments. Rust? I have a 2013. I live in Norway with frequent trips to Denmark. Both countries throw salt like H in the winter. I got the undercarriage and cavetys rustprotected, and I have no rust issues. Citycar? I often use it to drive to our cottage in Denmark. Mostly motorway (100/110/120/130) and it performs perfekt. The infotainment system is querky, but that only a question about learning how to use it.
Exactly, Xenons were never available for CT200H, only halogens or these full LED (non-matrix, obviously). They are quite rare as this is the rare Premier version (full led lights and Mark Levinson as standard - definitely the only sensible version to buy, F sport has no LED low beams and no Levinson, standard Panasonic audio in Other versions like F-sport is mediocre at best). This was a good review thankyou. Do you think this car is worth it for the price? Roughly 10k and from which model year do you recommend the lexus or are they all the same
Hey, I'd ask the dealer if the facelift or semi-facelift with slightly larger grill have had the hinge issue fixed. For city only, I'd be fine but if you do even 30/70 driving, I'd save for something else, maybe "new first gen 2014" IS 300h which, shockingly, consumes less fuel than CT200h while doing highway miles and is much more comfortable.
Maybe, you can suggest per your experience - when I bought my Lexus ct200h 2016, it showed cruising range around 800 km, but now it shows only 601 and the consumption went to 6,9L/100 km. Airbag red sign came on - maybe it effects as well ?
You'd say it's better to save money and invest on an IS300H? Or would this be enough in terms of comfort? Considering I'm currently driving a yaris and thinkin' about an upgrade. Thanks.
Thanks, man! If you're thinking about CT, I highly suggest saving a few more bucks for the 2013+ XE30 Lexus IS (with wheel bearings replaced, aka the most expensive repair), it's so much better in terms of comfort, just less usable cargo space as not a hatchback. This is what I did, will do a review after LC
@@autobausspov in my country the price for such a Lexus IS - 10 thousand euros higher than the ST. I'm looking for a small, reliable hybrid hatch, because in the city where I live there are traffic jams that last for 1 hour. And I don’t want to burn fuel in vain in a traffic jam. And I understand that the ST is not the most comfortable option, and if the price difference were 2-4 thousand euros, it would make sense to buy the IS. That's why now I'm looking towards the ST or Audi Q5 hybrid 2014, but in Audi many technical problems can arise. Therefore, so far my favorite in terms of price and feasibility is ST.
Are you sure it's rust? I have never seen a Lexus even rust in Michigan. Strange stuff can happen for sure but I would have liked to have seen you show us the rust! Not saying it will not rust but I own 2 Lexus and one was over 20 years old GS300 and never had a rust. I finally got rid of it because the car repairs shop failed to tighten the hose with the radiator and leaked fluid all over and ended up selling it later but in actuality, nothing was wrong with the engine. This car was shooting up in price when gas prices shot up through the roof but I think you can buy one for around 10k.
Hey, it's a thing called "rail dust" or something like that, not sure how to name it properly but if you google CT200H rust, there are a threads about it, example www.ct200hforum.com/threads/tiny-rust-spots-all-over-the-car.119506/ although I don't live or park near any rails.
@0:47 Your bill for the car wash must be substantial with this color. @2:09 The fuel economy is IMHO more important than the stock rims. 😉 @11:24 You can drive it with 5L/100km on the Autobahn. 🙋♂ Those young whippersnappers these days push their cars too hard - in sport mode. 😘
If you service the vehicle up to 10 years or 100,000 miles you extend the warranty every year including the battery so therefore if you keep servicing with Lexus your battery is covered for 10 years and the warranty extended for 10 years
It’s only a concern if you’re cheap out and go to a backstreet garage who doesn’t know what they’re doing Lexus vehicles are excellent and so is the customer service many times they will fix vehicles just outside the warranty period as a gesture of goodwill this is an excellent car very economical and The only thing lacking is the entertainment system is not as modern as German cars
So incompetent "review" - the lights that you have are led , not xenon , you talk about rust on plastic parts ( if you don't know - the bumpers are made of plastic ) , the rims are not 18" , they are 17" . It's not bad to try doing review , but check the information first , because if someone is wondering to buy car like this and watch your review , this person will be missleaded . And as an owner of a car it's good to know what car you have :)
Hey, thanks for feedback, I did word it wrongly, the normal lights are xenons, only daylight running lights are LED, like ES, you can get them xenon or led, as for rust, you are correct, but again, these are called ""rail dust", and there are dozens of 'i have rust on my 200h' threads on the internet! :) as for wheels, my mistake.
Yes, driving LC500 and IS 350 currently, previously CT200h, IS old gen, LS old gen, NX, and test driving new ES which is the worst car in handling, I am a German shill almost

Head gasket issues are similar to prius from that era.
Have you had your battery checked by Lexus?
Great video, I used to have a 2019 CT 200h. I always found the ride super stiff
I'm coming out of a 23-year-old 323i manual BMW, concerned about the CVT and how I would like it.
You will find it too drone like sounding
You'd say it's better to save money and invest on an IS300H? Or would this be enough in terms of comfort? Considering I'm currently driving a yaris and thinkin' about an upgrade. Thanks.
Absolutelly!
Great review. Thanks
the best review of this car. That is what I expected. touch interior elements, drive on not ideal road. Thanks a lot.
@11:24 You can drive it with 5L/100km on the Autobahn. 🙋♂ Those young whippersnappers these days push their cars too hard - in sport mode. 😘
Thank you!
I get 60 mpg (uk europe gallons) on the motorway. I don't know how you can say this car is rubbish on fuel on the motorway.
This was my drim car ❤❤❤
What is your dream car now? And why is it no more, too old?
Don’t get this vehicle , too many expensive common problems 2 of them are The hybrid battery, and the head gasket. Both average cost 3,500 PLUS
Biased German car lover this is a Lexus and does a good job get the f sport with upgrades this is the cheapest base model
@@gurjitphgurhe7727 I’m speaking facts . Head and hybrid battery. Major costly items .
Valarie u just assume what u heard look at facts
i wonder how long battery anc CTV trans lasts on this lexus
Never heard of them going bad, so far.
:) as for wheels, my mistake.
tire size varies depending on region tho. in EU this car launched with 202/55/R16 tire but in us 215/45/R17
Dudes complaining of not getting great fuel economy at 90mph.
❤
Rust spots on plastic bumper? 😳 are u for real?
Yes, google ct200h rust spots
Is it a chick magnet, or deterrent?
Neutral!
You sound bias, german cars are garbage compared to Lexus.
Yes, driving LC500 and IS 350 currently, previously CT200h, IS old gen, LS old gen, NX, and test driving new ES which is the worst car in handling, I am a German shill almost
