Young Chang makes some seriously good pianos. And they keep getting better.

And they also make excellent stage pianos and "performance controllers".
Since the 90s, Kurzweil Music Systems is owned and run by Young Chang.

I proudly own this model (Young Chang 185) since 1987 and never regretted having bought it. It's good to see, that it is appreciated as a good instrument not just regarding the moderate cost but even absolutely. Of course it does not compare to the studio (= about 185 cm) grands of Steinway or Bösendorfer. I often played both of them, but it's pretty close to the Yamaha equivalents which were about twice as expensive. I was then (when I bought my Young Chang)
told by the trader of the piano shop here in Cologne (Germany): "Da steckt das Know-How von Ibach drin" (= there's Ibach know-how inside"). He knew that the Corean piano makers had learned their skills at Ibach (in Wuppertal, not far from here). But I don't want to bore anyone telling my life. www.uli-schauerte.de

I think this might be the best sounding piano you have on video! I can't stop replaying the video for that incredible, super sound!

What a wonderful piano! I have often thought "what will happen now that all manufacturers in Denmark and most piano makers in Europe gave way to Yamaha?" (who sold pianos for almost nothing during 1970ies and thus won over old brands). Young Chang is one of the answers! what a sound!
Your playing shows fast trills in Mozart and passages in "Appassionata" which really needs responsive keys. Renner mechanisms are well known for responsiveness etc. but still regulation has to be done and it is perfect.
I wish I had such instrument! :) As a retired I must satisfy myself with 30year old DDR piano, the best of which is the soundboard - big sound. Fast repetitions on these keys? no. Not even fast trills! :)

Very nice Asian piano. It still has that covered sound. I just covert the warm open American sound.

Whoa, this sounds amazingly similar to my Bechstein B190SP
Have I mentioned how amazing Bechstein grands are?

Did they really build for Steinway too? Amazing! Here is the official list from "concertpitchpiano", stunning list! I can see that the list is not complete:
In 1956, Kim brothers: Jai-Young (accountant), Jai-Chang (pianist/piano technician) and Jai-Sup (engineer) started Young Chang in Seoul, Korea by assembling pianos from parts made by Japanese firm, Yamaha, and becoming the first musical instrument company in South Korea, incorporating as Young Chang Akki Co. Ltd. by 1962. By 1968 they began building their own pianos after signing an agreement with Yamaha for technical support. After building a new factory in in 1970 in Incheon, Korea they began exporting pianos a year later. With Young Chang’s decision to expand their operations both in Korea and internationally, their direction was to produce pianos under their own brand name and end the relationship with Yamaha in 1975. By 1979 Young Chang America was established, followed by Young Chang Canada in 1984 and Young Chang Europe in 1989.
In 1990 they acquired Kurzweil Music Systems, a major manufacturer of electronic keyboards. In 1995 they built a factory in Tianjin, China. In 2006, the Hyundai Development Group, a Korean construction and civil engineering firm that aided in creating the Hyundai Motor Co., purchased Young Chang giving it the needed capital and production sensibility akin to the manufacture of cars. They are now one of the world's largest piano manufacturers. Names on pianos built by Young Chang have included: Astor, Bergmann, Bechendorff, Cline, Essex, Ibach, Karl Muller, Knabe, Nakamura, Piano Disk, Pramberger, Schafer & Sons, Wagner, Weber, Wurlitzer. Besides building pianos with their own brand name, Young Chang manufactured Wurlitzer pianos for the Baldwin Piano Co., Weber pianos for Samsung, and private label or “stencil” names for large dealers and distributors around the globe.

Sounds pretty good actually. Surprising, since when we checked out Young Chang back in 2001, the quality is undoubtedly inferior to the other grands of the same class/price.

No more... It is no more Korean made. Actually it is made from China now. As far as I know, it might be a Chinese Company now. How it quality is just like other Chinese product.

Young Chang is still a Korean company. But they have manufacturing facility in Tianjin, China. There is a wide range of quality of Chinese pianos. Young Chang was one of the first companies manufacturing decent quality pianos in China starting at around the turn of the 21st century.

Young Chang, a Korean company, was at one point, the largest producer of pianos in the world. Like Pearl River today (a Chinese company), most of the pianos they made were decent quality, Asian production instruments. However, concert grand pianos are by their nature hand-built instruments since they are never mass produced.
