- 30min BBC 2 documentary about clubbing in Leeds in 1997. The programme features Back to Basics, Speed Queen, The Majestyk and many more 90s landmark venues and events. Thanks to Nick Cooper for kindly donating his recording to the Dance Music Archive.
golden years of leeds clubbing 92- 96 ( when i was going out) up yer ronson fridays, basics saturdays, vague on saturdays, soak nights one a month, loads of great bars, drugs everywhere no trouble everyone having it . For young uns now it seems very tame !
Had some great times in Leeds, 92-95, as a student. Dream FM, Ronson, Basics, Fav, SOAK. Jumbo, Crash, buying mix tapes in the Corn Exchange. Top times.
Who here remembers nights at Morley’s and The Faversham? Absolute golden times :)

Bliss at The Gallery with DJ Tim and Saturdays with Steve Luigi and the Warehouse other weekends circa 90-93.
Up yer Ronson at Music Factory and Back to Basics Saturday for the “ more discerning clubber”😂. Everyone dressed in designer, supping Becks but still smashed on proper Es. New Yorkers , phase 4, Dennis the Menaces , White Burgers.
Kaos, Soak, arc , phobia , after dark at Morley , Hard times. Those were the days.
Some believe our clubs in the 1990s were something akin to what was available back in the 1960s. I can now prove to the kids that the old 1990s clubs realy were great, many were better than what they have now.

Every Saturday for 7 weeks @ back2 basics was one the best periods of my time raving and rocking
Dave Beer was a legitimate legend as well

There was nowhere like The Gallery and The Warehouse, they were the absolute zenith of club culture back in the day. PRICELESS TIMES IN THE MOST IMPORTANT DECADES IN DANCE CULTURE. Jacob Kramer College Crew. Big up.
So many weekends started at the Gallery and ended up at the Warehouse...good times!

Did the scene back then, The Warehouse and The Gallery were bangin'. The greatest era and the best clubs. Steve Luigi, Pete Tong, Dave Beer, Paul Woolford.

Leeds. The home of the 3 in 1 haircut. Was always a great town to party in the 90s. Dave beer should be given the keys to Leeds, huge figure in the club scene.

Wasn’t around for basics but for me the ‘no jeans’ policy in the late 90s creation / majestic era set Leeds back 20 years. One word … hacienda

That was what I loved about speedQueen. Like she said, It wasn't about the drugs. Loved how sober everyone was in there, music lovers not druggies.
Are you sure? There was loads of people off their heads in there. Not everyone but plenty were.
You can love the music and be a hardened drug user infact I would say that you are not a true music lover untill you have experienced that clubbing experience spangled.

“Leeds - 2 E’s and an LSD” was sprayed on the side of a house on Brudenell Grove, Hyde Park, when I lived there 94/95, along with “Do you eat, or drink, soup?”

This is a long shot, but does anyone remember a club/bar in Leeds ( I think it was called ) backers? I went to leeds late 1998 or 99 for a weekend, needless to say I cannot remember if that was the right name for the club/bar, lol.

We went to Majestic's first then to the other place. great times indeed. Majestic night club is still the best club I have ever been to.
@@Sharkbar_ I guess it’s possible it was nicknamed backers by locals, I just knew it as basics and knew it was run by Dave beer. If we weren’t going to cream in Liverpool or sankeys in Manchester, We would go to Leeds, late 90’s early 2000 and would do majestics first and then end up in back2basics for the latter part of the night. Majestics was a much bigger venue but I preferred the music in basics

You mean Bacchus. A cafe in the Merrion Centre by day and then became an unlicensed nightclub on a Saturday night.
From my own experience we wouldn't of went to such a club,it's too strict, can wear jeans for god sake
You weren't missing out there, it wasn't that great anyway.
Basic's was mint and very many a good night, Warehouse was overrated. Just my opinion.
