I never knew Cari and Janusz were in Taiwan!! I'd really like to meet them, since one, Easy German has helped me a lot (am a big fan of Deutsch), and two, I reckon myself a good interviewee. I love the idea on which this channel is based. Just like the man at 3:22 said, it is always harder for language learners to grasp the speaking part and I think the key to improve it is listen to how a language is actually used in daily context. Bravo! 很高興你們特地來台灣,希望有機會再來的時候能讓我遇到😄

jose alfredo garcia They can understand each other most of the time(like in a very simple daily conversation), but a lot of the expressions and words are very different so it might cause some degree of confusion in certain situations.(P.S. The accent is quite different too

Mainlanders and Taiwanese can understand each other just fine in speech. Some mainlanders however may not understand some traditional characters in the written language. The differences between a Beijing accent and a Taiwanese accent are about the same in size as a British vs American accent. In a Taiwanese accent the "h" in words such as 中文 or 是 are much less pronounced. Zhongwen almost sounds like Zongwen. The Rs are also much less pronounced. There's a joke that Beijingers sound like pirates because of the excessive exaggeration on the R sounds. There are a couple of words pronounced differently as well such as 和. In Taiwan, it is pronounced hàn in lieu of hé in the mainland. Connotations can be different as well and words like 了解 meaning something like "I totally understand you" in the mainland is used in place of 明白 in Taiwan and conveys a much less deep "I understand." Hope this helped.

I’m Taiwanese, and yes Taiwanese and Chinese understand each other despite the accents. There are also some cultural words and phrases that the other country doesn’t use (just like in American English and British English), but sometimes we can guess the meanings and still understand each other well. Reading is another thing though. Most Taiwanese can read simplified characters (though not all the characters if some are too uncommonly used/seen), and some Chinese understand a great number of traditional characters. I’ve seen some Chinese not able to understand traditional characters at all, but never a Taiwanese person who can’t read any simplified. With that said, reading a whole article, piece of news or a book in the characters the other country uses can be tiring since we aren’t used to it and have to guess what a word is based on the context.

Taiwanese is also Chinese. It is the Republic of China. Guys, you should not ignore the truth that some countries just want to use the Taiwan problem(actually the Unification of China) to anti-communism. Believe it or not, even we would be a Capitalist country one day, the western countries will still anti-China to prevent China has more power(Our neighbor Russia is still considered to be an enemy). My uncles are Chinese grown up in Taiwan, ROC because his dad was KMT who failed in 1949. But we are still one family. I don't know why some people support Taiwan to be independent, reminds me of the time we were invaded by many countries during World WAR I and II. Taiwan had been a part of China 300 years ago and then was forced to be a Japanese colony from 1895 to 1945. But after World War II, Taiwan had been returned to China. If Taiwanese were not Chinese, then we could also consider Australia, Canada, the USA are not legal countries because 200 years ago the natives were not white.

The videos are great, except there is one thing missing for language learners - transcripts. It is typical of mandarin studying materials - just when I find great and interesting materials - clear pronunciation, useful phrases, interesting topics, just like here - every time I realize, in desperation, that I can't print out the text, reread it, review it on the subway, for example, or look up the words in a dictionary, simply because the transcript is missing (I tried to type the on screen hanzi using google handwrite into Word manually a few times - I wouldn't recommend anyone to go through that frustrating experience). Any chance you could provide us the hanzi subtitles in Word?

Mandarin is Mandarin. Taiwanese Mandarin is ridiculous. The Civil War of China is still not ending. I do have 20 relatives in Taiwan, ROC. According to the constitution of ROC, I am still Chinese. I don't like the saying ' Taiwanese'. Then next time I will tell other foreigners I am Shandongese. Does it make sense?
I hope PRC can allow us to use YT and we should open an EASY CHINESE Channel.
I am studying in Germany now.
I think most people who want to learn Chinese are willing to visit Mainland China(PRC).
I recommend you to learn standard Chinese. If you are interested in China's history, the PRC may be a better choice.
