Many critical comments here... The video is about him showing people how to use a particular pen, not anything else. I for one am grateful that he took the time and effort for this. He makes it look so easy!
Ohhh so you have to push hard to get it much more thicker. I did it lighter beacause i thought if a push is hard enough it will break :/ I dont know how to do calligraphy and the worse part is that im a lefty :/
Where your hand touches the paper it leaves traces of bodyfat which can cause the paper to reject the ink. Some light bandage or a special fingerless"glove" prevents that.
You're killin it.i remember the first video that I watch I was 13 years old and now I'm 15 it's so fast and I still love watching your video I'm excited to see the new video and congratulations to 20.1million subscribers 🎉 keep safe
If you scrap the nib against the side of the ink bottle you won’t have to to those “test strokes” which in reality are just wasted ink. Just a tip... i too had a LOT of trouble with this specific nib and holder but since switching to a Gnib and larger holder with removable flange I’ve enjoyed much more
There were definitely three very good tips here. I didn't know what angle to hold the pen at and I think you cleared my emotional fear of inking. I'll use my pen next time. I just did brush painting last time and left my muffin tin out till the ink dried in it in different values. I didn't want to waste it but I need to find a better habit to maintain my tin and ceramic wells.
Higgins ink is generally regarded as terrible and inconsistent at best. Some of the better inks are Dr.Ph Martin's inks like Bombay Black and Blackstar. Also the ZIG cartoonist 60 from kuretake is a pretty good ink. Jetpens.com has a great comparison of inks and their opacity.
Speedball superblack is a great ink It is verry opaque consistent enough for rapidograph pens and waterproof once dry .i prefer it to sll inks ...worth a try
If your going to use any wet medium then you need a waterproof ink. This includes ink washes, alcohol marker, or watercolors/waterbased markers. And if need to cover large areas a brush is best. You can add a little water to the page like with watercolors then drip ink in with the quill or go brush right into the ink.
You help so many and if you ever care to help me i'd be truly honored i'm 37 and struggle day in and day out to being the best artist i can be I art everyday and try to create i struggle with self doubt but push myself to stay my best, If you ever have a chance to help me one day i would again truly be honored and thank you. But help others before me their are so many in this world who need help and i know they deserve it more than me
i have the same stuff as ou and i just want to say not to press it down to hard because my tip cut in half lol it is still useable but jsut be careful with your dip pens or what i call quill
Tip: Please stop saying "so"! It is not necessary. Please just quietly show the pen against the paper. The "trendy talk" ("You guys", "soooo", "So, yeah, so...") is redundant and we can't learn from these words.
Really? You’ve got to be kidding. I doubt this gentleman is a teacher. He’s taking time out of his day to give some suggestions to people who may be looking for them. If you have a freaking problem with that, then go somewhere else where the person talking doesn’t use words that are distracting for you. How about you quietly go somewhere else as your rude talk is distracting me from my learning experience.

I’m dirty minded
Write upside down. Write with pencil what you want to write and reverse it and copy it with the pen
I'm also a Lefty, but in my opinion, just Practice and practice :) I did the same too but once I got used to It got better.
I thought the same too until now 😅
Nah actually if u want your ink to flow from you quill ygot to press it a bit harder

Re-watching some of his old how to videos during quaritine
Big change from then and now, old times😷
You can double up on lines, instead of just going over a line one time add another line on top so it opens up the line and create little pockets.
My ink dried 😂😂💀
How..
ZHC IS THE KING OF ART

Your amazing keep up the good work
Your art is amazing 👍👍👍
What kind of paper is recommended for these pens?
I bought a chrap set since I'm starting out and when I press hard to do thick lines it just wets everything. Guess you really get what you pay for.

Rewatching old vids of ZHC looks weird ro me
NICE TUTORIAL
How do you cover large surface areas and does markers effect the dry ink
If your going to use any wet medium then you need a waterproof ink. This includes ink washes, alcohol marker, or watercolors/waterbased markers. And if need to cover large areas a brush is best. You can add a little water to the page like with watercolors then drip ink in with the quill or go brush right into the ink.
Wonderful
Any advice if the nib is scratching and catching on the paper (which then causes splatters)? Thank you,
What paper are you using?
@@bradleyhamilton4409 smooth bristol, thanks
@@kraftykat1048 Maybe try a shallower angle and less pressure on the paper. If it's still catching, the ink may not be flowing properly.
omg his content is so much more different now ...

Could acrylic paint be used instead of ink?
I'm not sure, but if you're going to try, use a nib that you don't mind damaging, because you probably shouldn't
Absolutely not

Hey!!!!! I follow you on Instagram!!!!
How do you stop it from getting caught on the paper?
It helps to choose paper that's smooth. So, say, watercolor paper would make the pen catch a lot easier.
@@ChloeVilar in my experience Bristol paper is the best
