I'm a country fan but Smells Like Teen Spirit changed Rock music as we know it and is definitely one of the 3 greatest and most influential songs of the decade
My three favorite 90s country songs have to be “Alibis”, “Friends in Low Places”, and “Just To See You Smile”. But in this draft I might take “3AM” or “When I Come Around” to diversify.
I think I'd have gone with: 1) Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way 2) Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing 3) Michael Jackson - Black Or White I honestly CANNOT BELIEVE nobody picked a Michael Jackson song. I mean...are you guys crazy? Sure, the likes of Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Dirty Diana, The Way You Make Me Feel, etc were all 80s - but Black Or White (one of his biggest hits) was a 90s song - along with several other popular singles. Also surprised by the lack of even MENTIONING Toby Keith or Tim McGraw, and by the fact Christina Aguilera didn't pop up on anyone's list - Genie In a Bottle, guys? That was HUGE. So was What a Girl Wants. Oops I Did It Again was a good Britney pick, but Hit Me Baby One More Time would have been the better choice. Also...Smells Like Teen Spirit? Livin' La Vida Loca? Barbie Girl? Losing My Religion? MMMBop? November Rain? I Will Always Love You? You guys really missed some huge, huge opportunities. It's mind-boggling honestly.
