  • Sanathana Dharma (Hinduism) is an open, pluralistic tradition that is the origin of all spiritual philosophies and practises. However because of its vast, diverse ideas it has often been portrayed in a negative light.
    Western media, as well as preachers from other faiths find it easy to ridicule and condemn many of the practices. Added to this Hindus themselves are often uneducated about their religion and find it difficult to respond when probing questions are asked.
    This video stresses the reasons for educating and creating a counter narrative against forces which seek to undermine Hinduism.
    By doing this we can protect the rich tradition of Sanathana Dharma.

      Hindu organizations are the prime element to be blamed for not working accurately and hard to unite Hindus under one roof.Muslims gathers in Mosques every friday and Christians meeting one-another in church prayer days.Are there any such customs among Hindus to unite in any worship place i.e. Temples??

      You are right Ashish Kumar but all I meant to say that Hindus need to learn from their past mistakes and just like Churches,Temples,Gurudwars etc temples or similar religious places of the Hindus needed to be our meeting grounds where Hindu Brothers and Sisters can meet at least one specific day & time weekly or say -fortnight or once in every month and to hear and learn about our Great Vedic teachings,Bhagwat etc (Hindus still now lacks all these and stays away from their faith whereas I have personally witnessed Christian family childrens attending he Sunday schools aswell as Muslim youngstars from very early age tutored by the clerics in their religious places. Hindu log aabhi bhi yeh saab kucch karney se kyon bhagtey hai?

      Just because his birth story is emotional doesn't make him a good man. It's the deeds that matters. And being strong/intelligent has nothing to do with it. Even Osama bin Laden had a doctorate and Chengis Khan was a strong dude too.

    Firstly, Thank You. I am a Hindu by birth, but for all these years have been eyeing this religion through the eyes of a Westerner. I have lived an Atheist. But after watching your channel, I am motivated to now try and understand my religion. The inherent problem for us Hindus is that the religious knowledge and scriptures are not easily accessable to the common man and the study of these scriptures is considered a privilege of a certain section of the Hindu society. Hence, an average man only knows what the Brahmana tell him. I have observed my parents, my family and my fellow men and women who have no idea why they are praying to a particular deity other than the fact that either their parents or forefathers preached that deity or in general a particular god is associated with a particular human need (e.g. Laxmi for wealth and riches). I have always felt that this religion has more to offer than just prayers and rituals that one blindly follow without knowing the reasons behind it. I believe Hindus at large must first understand Hinduism so that together we can continue its legacy. Regards.

      Rajib Dutta What do u mean by "scriptures" not available? You don't have to read any scripture except Baghavad Gita which is available in different languages and formats. Baghavad Gita talks about some of the deepest laws of nature which so called science can never validate. So stop hiding behind so called modern science in the name of modernity.

      Hello Bro, Hinduism is nothing but understanding yourself in deep silence. Oldest holy texts Vedas and Upanishads were realized in deep silence only. Watch your breath with concentration (the work which you started from birth and the oldest that you know..!). This itself would take you to your Self. This Vipaasana technique is glorified in Buddhism. But as usual, Hindu textures mention this as one of the points to gain concentration. Idle worship is for concentration, as everyone can't meditate on nothing., the way it is prescribed by Islam. It's good. But is not suitable for commoner. There is no use in giving a hearing machine to a blind. It's like that. It leads to meditation and when muslims can't find permanent peace thru' their prescribed methods of worship (which is close to meditation), it leads to frustration and ends up creating ISIS (OR) Al-Qaeda. That is why Hinduism tossed many types of worship and one can chose what is suitable to him. Praanaayaamaa, Yoga, Bhajan Maarg, or meditation. Westerners and Muslims criticize that there are 33 million gods in Hinduism. This is wrong. That was the population of earth that time. Actually, now we have more than 7 billion gods, provided everyone realizes themselves...! Becos without you there is no god. In deep sleep, or in Coma stage none thinks of god. God is the oldest creation of humans and probably the worst, as well. Close one's nose and mouth tightly... and let's see which gods comes to one's rescue. At max he / she would survive for few minutes. That is why Breathing technique (Praanaayaamaa) is given the utmost importance in Hinduism. Air is first god and water is 2nd... ! Am writing a book titled 'Philosophical Fuck Ups...!' with my humour touch, which should clear all cobwebs about Hinduism and especially the non-existent god, outside...! This is pivotal... Some times frustration also leads to realization.. for that one needs to get married at least once...!

    • @indianmilitary

      But sanathana dharma never bans anybody from pursuing wealth or passion. But the catch is it should be done within the framework of dharma or natural law. In other words, desire is good but NOT greed. Laws of karma will make sure that everybody gets everything eventually what they desired for. Of course there is cause and effect or Karma, if we accumulate new desires which can lead to more re-incarnations or cycle of birth and death
      Point is if we pursue our desires (which manifests itself in the form of favorable situations and circumstances based on past karma) with dharma or in sync with natural law or with balance of body, mind and soul, then we would exhaust past karmic desires and not accumulate new desires or karma which can stop the cycle of birth and death. We can get Moksha. Dharma of soul is called "swadharma" in sanskrit or selfless action of an Individual soul which is just an expression of divine itself. So no karma.

      If Hindus want to defend their faith.. what's wrong in that?? & Who is talking about ransacking other faiths?? Hindus always been respectful and accepting of others. People of other faiths have always co-existed peacefully in India.. except for those religious riots which were started by politicians. But overall, Hindus don't attack people of other faith like how muslims would kill if your faith didn't match with their's if you were in a muslim country. You would have to hide or live in fear if you were in such countries.

      All religions cannot be the same. Even twins born to the same mother at the same time are different. Yet all religious teachings are true simultaneously. To Truly understand you need to look at all religions and reality of modernity ... then evolve and fit it all together harmoniously.
      Problem is: are the leaders capable to do this? Society?

    S does NOT preach hatred for other religions, unlike all other religions, except Budhism & Jainism . If any religion does NOT tolerate or accept other religions it is NOT a religion. Sanatana Dharma (S) (Hinduism) is the oldest religion, perhaps started around 10,000 B.C.E. S has withstood Budhism & Jainism for 2500 years, Judaism for 2300 yrs (Jews came to India when Romans destroyed Soloman Temple), Islam for 1100 years, Christianity for 300 years, Sikhism for 600 years & Zoroashtrians for 1200 years.
    India is the only country in the world where Jews were NOT persecuted & sheltered Jews unlike all other countries. When Islam invaded Persia (Iran) in 6th Century AD, it converted Zoroashtrians to Islam by ruthless & tyranical means. Zoroashtrians fled Iran & India offered shelter. In 1959 India offered asylum to Budhist leader Dalai Lama when China invaded Tibet.
    S does not care if all other religions criticize S. If any one calls White as Black, it does not make it Black.
    India is the 2nd largest Muslim population in the world has 185 million Muslims = 1/2 of US population. India is the only country where Sunny & Shia Muslims live in harmony unlike rest of Islamic countries where Muslims of Sunnys slaughter Shias.
    Religion is the road to heaven. There is more than one way to reach the destination. S believes in this philosophy. It's the ignorant & bigots who have no enlightenment & pig headed criticize other religions. S is tolerant does NOT criticize other religions. S is the most logical & tolerant rich in Philosophy jreligion. S has 4 VEDAS, 108 UPANISHADS, 18 PURANAS, 6 VEDANGAS, 8 SHASTRAS, 17 SUTRAS, ITIHASAS etc. holy/sacred scriptures. No other religion has the above sacred/holy scriptures.
    Christianity has total of 66 books in the Bible - 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.
    SANATANA DHARMA HAS PREVAILED FOR 12,000 YEARS & WILL PREVAIL AS LONG AS THIS WORLD EXISTS.

      Arvind Shrivastava Dharma is to live in sync with natural law. Dharma is NOT religion. There is no "ism" in hindu (ism ???) either. Ageless Sankhya darshana of hindu dharma was validated by Double slit quantum experiment. "Observed (matter) cannot be perceived without the observer (atman or consciousness) within both living and non living".
      Sanathana dharma is nothing but a culture built around laws of nature represented by darshanas or visions (Dvaita/Advaita/Sankhya), temples, deities, sanskrit mantras, rituals, festivals, allegorical stories, dance, songs etc. Dharma has nothing to do with one book religions. The word religion came from the latin word 'reli-gaire" meaning to be bound by a single book.
      Erwin Schrodinger (Father of Quantum physics) - Schrodinger's biographer Moore, wrote -- “His system - or that of the Upanishads - is delightful and consistent: the self and the world are one and they are all. He rejected traditional western religious beliefs (Jewish, Christian, and Islamic) not on the basis of any reasoned argument, nor even with an expression of emotional antipathy, for he loved to use religious expressions and metaphors, but simply by saying that they are naïve--and will NOT understand Quantum theory and consciousness.

    Great Video! I will also like to add that centuries of Islamic invasions and colonial rule has left Hindus feeling inferior and pride-less about their own culture and heritage. Macaulay simply exploited that aspect of Hindus to further weaken our society. It is one of the major reasons why Hindu intellectuals are eagerly trying to mimic their western masters so that they can be acknowledged by them. Furthermore, the Indian pseudo-secular society has always condemned Hindus as an oppressive majority regardless of the circumstances and made Hindus feel guilt-ridden. All these elements add up to the reason why Hinduism is at a social decline despite the perseverance of our ancestors. But thankfully some Hindus are waking up from their sleep of ignorance.

    Hello! I'm writing from Italy, the fortress of Christianity, and I fight every day against the Catholic mentality. Personally, I recognize the holiness of Sanathana Dharma and I deeply believe that it is the most perfect way to the Truth. However, there is a deep cultural gap that, I believe, prevents the development of a correct "bhava". For this reason I'm trying to apply the wisdom of Sanathana Dharma to the divine forms that are more in keeping with the western "ethnos", such as the ancient deities of western paganism (moreover, I am convinced that there is a true historical connection between the eastern and western deities). Perhaps this could be the right answer: planting the seeds of Sanathana Dharma on an "aesthetic-cultural terrain" more familiar to westerners (minimizing xenophobic perceptions) and "attacking" the enemy system from within.

      Well let's get something straight. Truth is more objective than you think. If there is objective truth in the physical world why wouldn't there be in the spiritual? I'm sorry but we Christians couldn't just accept that all religions are valid if that was the case we might as well cast out the idea of hell which is integral to the law of our prophets. The reason why we try to hard to convert is so that the world won't suffer a needless hell. It's more of an act of love than a reduction of your faith. We'd rather you be free of pain, than to have to experience it for all eternity.

    • @jairohernandez1962
      @jairohernandez1962 5 років тому

      But in truth brother. No one will force you too believe who is a true Christian. Just as Christ gave us the free choice to love him he also presents that choice to everyone else. The Lord will not force you. And if he did force you, how would he know that you love him? So by all means I will always speak to someone of my faith to try to convert them but if they do not listen then that's fine. Everyone can live their lives as they please.

    Hi. I found your channel today and loved your videos. I follow Hinduism practices in real life and it helped me in past in knowing myself and improving myself. I was born and brought up in India and all the knowledge I have was given by my parents when they used to tell me a story from Mahabharata and Ramayana every night when I was a kid. But when someone from other religion asks me about hinduism practices, I am unable to answer them to the optimum level. I somehow don't feel the need to make them understand or believe in what I believe in. This I think shows the true nature of hinduism. But now after watching your videos, I feel I should try harder when talking about hinduism so that other people have enough information to make right decision. What texts/books would you recommend to read if I would like to learn more about Hinduism so that I can improve myself more and be able to answer about Hinduism more precisely?
    Regards

    This may seem aggressive and offensive but for the higher purpose: to go against exclusivity.
    "Reason why Islam rejects idle worship is because it is prohibited in Islam".
    "God of Hinduism is actually Satan because he is represented by Idol-try which is not attributed by God of the Bible".
    How are these reasons? Reason why I say you should do this is because... Well because I say so... a book says so..
    "How can the idle help you when it cannot help itself?"
    Who said the idle needs to be intact to help? And what help are you talking about?
    The very Hindus dissolve idols in water, we don't require it to be intact. If it breaks, its fine, hopefully if it had already instilled unbreakable questioning in a few innocent hearts already.
    "Hinduism images are serpents and skulls that are all demonic representations of Satan in Bible".
    You do have a skull within your head right? Now that's an act of Satan and we are supposed to try and lose the skull?
    How is snake so demonic when all it does is lives and preys. How is it more demonic or any less normal than the human that hunts, kills, cuts and eats cows, pigs, birds and what not.
    Again it is demonic representation because I said so... a book said so, while the book's Exclusive figure indeed created it all, including the snake and the skull? So why not understand the intention of the skull and serpent representation on the other side while you clearly seem to have understood the intention on your side?

    • @prabalsinha972
      @prabalsinha972 6 років тому +2

      No, truth does not find its own way. It needs to be protected. Sometimes the truth is lost for ever like the great library of Nalanda that was burnt or an unidentified human corpse that ends up in the morgue. Their stories, ie the truth gets buried in the depths of time and forgotten.
      Only mentally lazy people, who shy away from using critical thinking as it requires effort, tend to say such things because they can hide their laziness behind lofty sounding words.
      It needs great courage to defend truth as it can be life threatening too.
      That's why it's said Dharma rakshati rakshita - Dharma protects those who protect Dharma. Krishna adviced Arjuna to fight Adharma and not wait for the truth to find its own way.

    In Hinduism, God is supreme infinite soul who creates & sustains the universe. He is therefore the super-intelligent, super-consciousness everywhere in the universe and nothing can exist without him. He can be worshipped as either with form, without form and with/without form. Everything emanated from him. A spark of his super-consciousness is also found within each and every soul. Our soul is simply pure intelligent consciousness. That is our true self. Therefore, God is also within our soul, waiting to be awakened, and therefore God is assisting all souls to realize him by overcoming matter and materialism through experience of the dualistic material world created by God. Hence he is within us and we are all within him. All beliefs are his different manifestations. Paths to him are therefore many. Ultimately, all souls will be guided towards him over many births and deaths. Hinduism and the Vedas explains all this. No arguments. No need for fighting. No need for conversions. No recruiting believers. No accusing others as deviants. No ego. No superiority complexes. No smashing of idols. All is one and one is all.

    • @indianmilitary
      @indianmilitary 7 років тому +5

      MK "All beliefs are his different manifestations" - YES "Paths to him are therefore many" SORRY NOT TRUE. Yes, it is the same divine doing different roles within the material realm but there is something called dharma and adharma. It is like saying great sage Ramana Maharishi and Osama bin Laden were divine doing different roles. Did it mean the path of Osama bin laden was dharmic? Of course not. Point is divine does the role of both dharma and adharma but only dharma should win in the end.
      In Baghavad Gita, divine avatar Krishna says different paths but same destination but he was not talking about different "abrahamic religions" or even buddhism/janinism/sikkhism. He was talking about different paths within the framework of sanathana dharma. Eg Bakthi yoga, sanyasa yoga, dhyana yoga, Karma yoga etc

    you can pray to a picture of Jesus or Muhammad or any of the Hindu gods. you can carve an idol of any of these figures. Altho Muslims forbid this. but whether you pray in your head, carve a beautiful figure, or pray before an uncarved piece of wood, you're talking to the god within yourself. that's the message that needs to be remembered. everyone can be lost and not know the purpose of what they're doing. a Christian can not know why they have a picture of Jesus on their wall but have it there for religious tradition. a Muslim can pray five times a day and not know why but do it anyway for tradition. a Hindu can offer food to a carved statue and not feel anything significant about it but do it for tradition. everyone can get lost in tradition and mindlessly continue it. one has to go beyond tradition to find true meaning. probably take the path of Buddha in order to come to the same understanding Buddha did. the same answer can't fit for every person. but no one will really find god through mindless repetition of traditions. a person has to question their faith and naturally come to rely on it.

    • @sunilbaluni5333
      @sunilbaluni5333 4 роки тому

      There is nothing wrong in idol worship and not praying idol at all. But saying that only this path is right is certainly wrong because every person is not same. You are trying to fit one suit to all just like Christianity and Islam. Only way only path ha ha. There can be many paths in Sanatan dharma. there are different rituals but doing them is not mandatory at all. The problem is foreigners and others seeing our dharma according to their belief system. There is no complusion to do rituals there is no punishment for that if you don't do and we also know that God doesn't want us to pray him or praise him. He is beyond that he is not egoistic. Rituals and idols are just some methods for ordinary people like us to help in meditation.

      Akhand Bharat Mata ki Jai, Actually Akhand Prithvi Mata ki Jai. I agree with varna system of 5000 BC, "चातुर्य वरन ग्यान करम विभाग सच " , the occupation of a person, no one is higher or lower class; there is difference between Brahmin and Brahman . Hope the Brahmins understand what they have done to the populace in the past and what they are doing for the future. I understand that the Brahmins, Kshatris and Vaishya's have spoiled the subcontinent and they are the ones to fix it up. Allowing everyone to the path of Liberation is a HUMAN right. Everyone is born as a " Chchudra " by sanskar and education one becomes a" Dwij ", No one is higher or lower and no one is a born Brahmin, at any time anyone can strive to be a Brahman. The Omnipresent Eternal Lord is in everyone, AUM, Love All. SHIVOHAM.

      please stop playing the blame game. That's what the west wanted ..for Indians to fight among ourselfs. In historical context, during the Vedic era people were free to choose any profession they liked and it wasn't something one was born into. For example Valmiki Rishi was a hunter to later became a "Brahmin" which meant the 'enlightened one' and wrote the Ramayan. Parusharama was born into a Brahmin family but by his karma (actions) became a Shatriya (warrior). Most Brahmins never discriminated. All children received equal education regardless of which backgrounds their families came from, in their ashrams in ancient times. If you look at Chandragupta Mouriya the great Indian Emperor came from a poorer backward "class" and he was recognised & selected from his childhood purely on his talent by Chanakya who was a great Brahmin to educate him and train him to be a great Indian King. If Chanakya wanted, he could have been biased and chosen someone from "higher caste" but didn't. & the dynasty continued on to Ashoka the great.

    Hey, can you do a vid on caste system in the light of the Hindu scriptures? Of what I've studied, the sruti doesn't have the caste system and idea, even with the purusha Sukta. Especially, the Upanishads really speak of peaceful doctrines opposite to what the caste system is. The concept of Advaita Vedanta is surely against it. But the smrit scriptures may not coincide with the a peace at all times. Some smriti scripture have ideas of caste. Can you do a vid on this and really analyze the evolution of caste in India?

    India had always provided shelter to the people of many different beliefs (e.g. , Parsi, Jews, Christians , Zoroastrians etc.)

    This is why we need India to be only ruled by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party )

    One problem with Christianity and Islam is that they claim God has no form and worshiping ideals (of any form and shape) is wrong but in practice in a way they do worship ideals. Christians worship cross and muslims worship kabba in mecca

    Great to hear a fellow Englishman as passionate about Sanatana Dharma as myself. Do you live in the UK? Do you follow Sri Dharma Pravataka Acharya?

    Another great video, thank you. Is there any books that you can recommend which explains Hinduism in a simple yet interesting way for a 10 year old? My son asks lots of questions about Hinduism.

      Sorry don't know of any. I can only suggest trying to explain the concepts in the videos in as simplistic a way as possible.

      u can buy satyarth prakash by swami dayanad saraswati. jay lakhani lecture on utube also covers vast range of topic about dharma n with short videos

      Satyarth Prakash is definitely not for 10 year old , unless the 10 year old is highly gifted. Jay Lakhani speaks well but define himself as an esoteric Hindu setting himself and his group apart from what he call as 'mainstream' hinduism.

    Hinduism doesn't need either to reinvent itself or to re-establish its unique identity! Its identity has been there unscathed despite onslaughts from other faiths for over 1000 years and more! The strengths of Hinduism far outweigh not only its few social weaknesses, but also all other religions! That is because:
    (i) it is a set of philosophical systems and not a religion in the sense in which the expression has come to be used in Book Religions of the Middle-East;
    (ii) There is so much of flexibility in this Dharma! Being an inherently Godless religion, every individual can create his own God or Goddess and pursue his spiritual ambitions; and
    (iii) It doesn't dictate terms to people in terms of "thou shalt do this or else you will go to hell"! It doesn't call people as SINNERS!
    (iv) It is absolutely against any of "belief"! It exhorts people to question, explore, enquire, and investigate by delving deep into oneself by posing the question: "Who am I"!
