I've been building and tinkering my whole life, but have only just begun to dip my toes into the world of building realistic looking Star Wars props. Join me on this journey as I attempt to build one Star Wars related project per week!
This week I tried my hand at 3D printing, painting, and weathering a Range Trooper helmet from the film Solo: A Star Wars Story. I'll go through the basics of sanding and filling the 3D print, priming and sanding the print and finally painting and weathering. I'll also touch on how to make your resin printed parts look like metal and how to get an authentic corroded/ rusted out look. I impressed myself with the final product, but you be the final judge!

“I don’t like sanding. It’s course, and it takes 16+ hours to get everywhere.”

Totally awesome build! Tha ks for sharing such an in-depth documentary on your process, super inspiring. I'm about to begin a Boba Fett helmet (Empire Strikes Back) and these video are a wealth of knowledge. 😄

Totally! Crazy that they’re only in the movie for less than five minutes 😭 Definitely one of my favorite designs

Nice job man! I just recently started printing and finishing helmets myself and the few I've done I learned a lot! I would recommend trying a fast/easier method of using uv curable resin from a resin printer. Galactic armory goes over it in their Helldivers helmet build but you add baby powder to the resin to thicken it up, brush it on in thin layers doing small/medium sections at a time and cure it with a uv light. I tried doing a quick all over sand of 80 and then 120, did a few layers of resin and then sanded it and it drastically cut down my sanding time! Then I hit it with Upol sandable primer and did a wet sand and it was smooth! Just something to maybe try on your future builds!

    Great gob!
I'm making props for movies and theaters already more than 15 years and i had to say you did very good job especially for beginner!
For me it is slightly sad that this level of details actually not needed in real movie making, but it looks great on exibitions and as collector item.
About paint it ideal as you can and then "destroy" by weathering: i feel your pain :) but this is the only right method to achieve good prop, many think that weathering will hide previous step mistakes, but it will not work this way, i am glad you understood this.
Hope your channel will grow and you have many subs, because props you already made are very promising and beyond many of other more popular prop makers.
Ps: sorry for my english it is not my native language.

7:50 you could have started with this step. That much wood filler would have taken care of all of the work you did previously. Nice work on the helmet though! For the window tint I personally like to mix a tiny bit of dish soap. Windex works fine though.

Yup! I always start with wood filler now. Live and learn! 😅

It looks very realistic. I just had a thought... The military of today are very anal about polishing boots, making beds, cleaning gear etc. Wouldn't the officers of the empire make sure that their troops polished and cared for their armor and regalia just as pedantic? Even if they're stationed in the very ass-of-space-hole where nothing interesting ever happens?

Use resin printer uv resin instead of wood filler paint it on cure it and sand it, don’t need to pre sand or filler literally print and paint the resin and sand you’ll halve your work load and half this video … you’ll thank me later
