- Here are some fun painting ideas for everyone! These ideas range from beginner to advanced. From simple to more complicated color schemes. There's a wide variety of painting ideas in this video for you to try, however the ideas aren't anything "new." You can think of these tiny painting ideas as "prompts" if you want!
I'm using oil paints in this video, but you can use whatever art supplies you want or have. Usually I use acrylics or gouache for painting ideas videos, but I wanted to switch it up today and use a supply I haven't touched in a while!

Have you ever considered doing a series based on a prompt book such as "Wreck This Journal" or "Create This Book"? You're so talented, I'm sure they would turn out amazing! 😊
We smile every time we watch a Mira Byler video! She shows how art can be serious work and joyful play at the same time. And, yes, we would love to see a brush cleaning video! If you do one, though, fair warning, we are a little obsessed about brush care and maintenance, and we might get a little chatty in comments. People have been known to make excuses to leave early when we're talking about brush cleaning. Funny how many doctor's appointments, family reunions, weddings, and court proceedings seem to just come up suddenly while we're talking about brush cleaning.
Do you help other artists get supplies
😂😂😂
haha glad to see my favorite art store has a good sense of humor! love you guys 😂
I genuinely wish there was a Blick store near me (I know I can order online, but it’s not the same). Because if your social media and marketing team is ANYTHING like the employees you hire, i’d LOVE to meet them 😊💜
@@lilMALICEundead Thank you! Sounds like it's maybe time for a road trip so you can shop in person and meet some of the amazing artists and educators on our team!
Waterfalls! I grew up in upstate new york, and we had a creek on our property that led into a glen with the most beautiful waterfalls. I paint them over and over.
Ah yes, please do a paint brush cleaning video. My brushes are so dirty and I don’t how to clean them😬😭
Love your videos and bubbly personality.
My go to subject? 🌷💐🌸🥀🌻
And I love Amazing Grace! I've got the perfume, shower gel, body oil and lotion. It's my favorite scent ever. Too bad it doesn't last long, hence the layering of scent.
Create because we want to create. I never thought about art that way. I mean that sometimes I get caught up in the idea of the finished product and that adds unnecessary stress. I'm going to try and remember that the act of creation is the part that is enjoyable and fulfilling. I think when I go for painting something comforting I go for Mark making and patterns. More abstract rather than a specific subject. I think I will try painting clouds and things I have around my home. Really enjoyed this video. Thank you
I think the poppies are my favorite as well!
thats is a lovely poppy painting, nice and loose looking 😀
dragons are my go too painting or drawing subjects, just dont have to think too much to draw them
My go to thing to paint or draw is eyes, eyes are something I can easily call to mind and apply to canvas without a reference. They can take me anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours depending on how inspired I'm feeling.
If someone wants me to draw them something I can generally come up with a decent sketch of an eye in about 2 minutes.
painting clouds is my go to! and mountains
Oh, I love the poppies! They're all great but I luv the poppies. lol
Yes a paint brush video would be great.
my go to these days is mountain landscape.
I do different things depending on the media I'm using. I like doing landscapes with acrylic (and sometimes watercolour.) I also really like drawing faces; usually with ink/watercolour, and also with pencils/pencil crayons. If I'm doodling with fineliners, I tend to have a cartoony illustrative style. When/if I go back in to add colour to that stuff, it's usually a mix of markers, pencil crayons, and watercolours.
Watercolours are basically my favourite thing.
My thing to paint would be either a galaxy or some kind of easy landscape. Both in watercolours.
Awesome painting ideas Myra. I was gifted that perfume and LOVE it. The scent is so subtle and nice as well as the shower gel 🥰.
Hi Mira. Once again I am in awe of your talent. Suggestion - I would love to see you paint skies but use different mediums all on the same video. You are so proficient in all mediums - would be interesting to see and hear your process when you move from gouache to coloured pencil or acrylic. Again. Loved your video.
I love your clouds
thank you for the advice. flowers are something I paint
Fun! The different background colors are a fun touch. =)
I love oils to and have not painted with them for years was just not in a place That I could but I am now and just got some supplies so I can try them out again. lovely paintings
your paintings are all great.
I use water mixable oil paints and there is VERY LITTLE fumes especially because you can “clean” your brush with water. And they don’t reactivate. Genuinely LOVE them.
ALSO! They do make “extender medium” or blending medium for acrylic paints so they take A LOT longer to dry. It makes them behave more like oil paints.
Sunset or sunrise paintings and easy ocean with it or galaxies
Yes please I would like to have a video that would teach me how to clean brushes. 😃
Qotd: I love to paint pawprints and dogs. They're my favorite thing to do. But for simplicity I paint a lot of cartoons and flowers
Love seeing you back with oil paint! Also very cool to bring not one but for beautiful paintings/studies! Looking forward to seeing more shiny objects🥰
I'm in a Drawing 1 class, and that first painting is so similar to the still lifes we do, except ours have multiple items. Painting instead of using a pencil looks so much more fun. 😍 Thanks for making my day better
Fun ideas. I think that reminding people they can paint small and simple too. I think its also fun to practice different materials. I recently painted a clear glass candle holder with lit flame with wax drips and it was very fun and challenging.
My go-to thing to paint when I'm not really feeling particulary inspired is mushrooms. They're easy to shade and it just adds to the realism if there are a few imperfections here and there :D
Still intimidated by painting in acrylic or oil. However you are so encouraging. It seems that I love to scale up whatever I draw. So painting on a small canvas does not seem like something I should do, but because I am still intimidated, I think it would be a great idea to paint on smaller canvases. Thank you, Mira. Love your videos.
I just paint what comes to my mind. I love your channel so much Mira ❤️
Love the Fun Painting Ideas 💕
I always love watching your creations coming to life! The poppies were really cool but my favorite was definitely the clouds. THAT was so relaxing and beautiful!
Haha mira, i always struggle with clouds 😂
I am loving you reflective painting. You are killing it 👏👏👏🤗💕
Love your art as always, Mira 😊😊😊
Also, super excited to see your next oil painting of water! Your last one turned out beautifully!
Hiiii Mira I literally love ur humor your just such an amazing person!!
Really enjoyed this, as always and yes would love to see a brush cleaning video too! Inspirational, fun and a pleasure to watch your videos Mira
Beautiful Art like always!
like all your mini paintings; my favorite thing to paint is trees, usually with acrylics, but I haven't used my oil paints yet since it's very hard to make our apartment properly ventilated.
My go-to when I wanna paint is to illustrate my kid in various “kid” situations (playing with Legos, for example) or to do portrait studies of him so I can practice painting brown skin 😊😊😊
No offense Mira, but folks please, pleeeeeeze rinse the gum Arabic out of your brand new brushes! Especially watercolor brushes which are more fragile. Bending the fibers on a round brush while stiff and hard can ruin the tip. You paid good money for your brush, don't ruin it before you've even started painting! 💋💋
Hi Mira, I love all your tips about using oil paints. I started painting in oils in the spring. I stopped because I don't know where to discard my dirty water as you know we cannot throw away on the sink. I may however take it to my community college and discard it there. Thanks for the perfect reminder.
Wanted to let you know my third friend just gave birth to twin boys so I know have 6 adopted nephews and I always wanted children and twins but it wasn’t meant to be it’s hard but God has blessed my with many adoptive children. Sending my love and prayers to your b little family
I think my comfort subject to paint is cats. I’m doing an inktober challenge this month and somehow cats keep popping up even though the prompts are nothing relating to cats 😻
Have you ever watched Kattvalk on UA-cam? She does lots of cats and even made her own inktober prompts that's all cats and called catober! Her art is amazing!
@@jamie_marie_ I’ll have to check it out! I heard someone mention Catober yesterday and my little ears perked right up 😻
I love it you’re such a great artist and a great person
Brush cleaning video!!
Presently, I'm working on a series of paintings of birds....
I love your art ❤
My go-to is doing rainbows of all the colors that I have. Don't really put them in any order just long lines of various colors or doing little squares of various colors sometimes blending the edges together to see what kind of color it might make. Love my watercolors. I especially love intense. I have been coloring with them on bags made of canvas and making circles upon circles upon circles. I thoroughly enjoy how once one layer dries putting another layer on top of it where the colors will intertwine in different ways and adding a little bit of white to kind of give it a little bit of a glow or an iridescent or a bubble look. Alas, it's almost always accidental when it looks amazing. Someday I will be able to consistently do that on purpose. :-) Someday I might Branch out into gouache it's calling my name. Have a question what is a water-based oil paint? As in how can an oil paint be water-based? It's not something I can wrap my head around in the present moment. Can you give an example?
your videos are so inspiring and your art amazing as always, they make me want to paint so bad😂i loved the cloud painiting!😍😍
Hi, Mira!!!❤
Ok, last comment, I promise. But I think it's time for your yearly stamp video! I just rewatched last year's and the year before and I'd love to see what you can come up with this year!
Checkerboard ideas
Hi mira ✨just wanted to say u are so good at art and I hope I build my art skills to be like your skills❤️ I love your videos and the sketch book ideas are my favorite lately I have been able to open up to the things I'm scared of doing Incase I mess up😯 but watching ur videos they make me feel confident👍 so keep up making the great content 🙂
I actually like the oranges being tiny. It adds a very odd, almost dystopian feeling to the piece. Kind of surreal. I am probably making no sense haha.
My go to thing to paint when I’m stuck is to make small portraits of my doggos 😊
My thing that i always draw are ghosts because there are easy to do or clouds
You're wiping paint on your little knit potholder/trivet? Do you make those to throw away?
Like your channel... Like your vedios 💛💛💛
I just want to say as of late (ie. the past few videos) your hair Mira has been looking really nice and healthy. I don’t know if you’re doing something different but it looks great… kind of odd but I thought I’d mention it
like you video
❤
Mira what is it that you use with oil paints to dry faster and could you use it with water mix able oils?
i dont do still life paintings, they seem too intimidating to try, im more abstract and randomness, no specific theme when i paint. so maybe ill try it someday. you make it seem so easy
Thanks for the ideas! I like to paint a fav toy from when I was a kid (trolls anyone?) or stuffed animals. Fun idea and comforting.
My biggest problem with painting in oils is safely disposing the used paper and cloth towels and mediums. I'm always concerned about the fire hazard.
first comment!!!😃😃❤❤❤ never been this early before
What is the biggest difference between working in oils vs acrylics? Would you say it is the blending because of the slow drying? I haven't tried oils yet and I'm curious.
Great question! Yes, oils are super creamy and dry slowly. They’re also thicker in consistency, so if you want to build up texture you can do so, or you can thin it out with walnut oil or other additives for a smoother appearance. I love both types of paint! Cleanup with acrylics is easier, so I tend to use that more for smaller pieces, and oils for larger pieces that take days to weeks to finish.
I would like to see a cleaning brushes video
