      At least now that we know that as long as if you defeat one pokemon on either side it counts as the winner of the match & the pokemon used by both sides for next episode's battle of Liko & Katy VS Rika as:
      {Floragato & Lokix VS Clodsire & Dugtrio} that beating Rika's Ace Clodsire would indeed be something if Liko could beat it, but if not beating Dugtrio on the other hand might be possible (to be honest, I would've thought Rika would have chosen to fight with her Closire be either Donphan [to make up for Clodsire's slow mobility]) or Camerupt [being part Fire would Really Challenge both Liko & Katy]

The students are the stars of these battles, so even if a Gym Leader loses a Pokémon, the battle will continue until either the student or the Elite Four member is out.

    Tbh, despite how bulky Copperajah looks, it has really low Def and SpDef for a final evo. It's entire bulk mainly came from it's HP.
    And Baxcalibur is literally a pseudo with the highest Attack stat and busted ability. Roy and Brassius had no business being here.

    • @Pokeferlax
      @Pokeferlax  3 місяці тому +28

      That's really interesting that Copperajah has really low defenses! I don't look into stats in-game too much, so I assumed it was a pretty tanky Pokemon 🐘

    • @MarcusMapua
      @MarcusMapua 3 місяці тому +21

      And Copperajah was the main one of Poppy's pokemon that kept taking most damage from Dot & Iono, so it makes sense why he got knocked out. And all Roy & Brassius ended up doing most of the battle was just unfortunately powering up Baxcalibur with the "beauty of their attacks" which resulted in Baaxcalibur Glaive Rushing them to a Double KO

    Some interesting details:
    Tinkaton was able to break through Reflect because it used Brick Break. The first time that move has shown its secondary effect in the anime.
    Baxcalibur has the Ability Thermal Exchange, which caused Fuecoco's attacks to power it up.
    The attack Bellibolt used was Zap Cannon.

    • @MarcusMapua
      @MarcusMapua 3 місяці тому +8

      I did think it was interesting how they decided to show Brick Break being used animated-wise to how the game portrays it; I figured they would've made it look like how Cubone used Brick Break in XY as both Cubone & Tinkaton are weaponry-gear users

    • @miikaroos3809
      @miikaroos3809 3 місяці тому +4

      Another interesting detail:
      The rules for these battles actually stated that the battle will end only if the Elite Four member loses one Pokémon or the student's Pokémon loses. If the Gym Leader loses a Pokémon, the battle will still continue, because the students are the stars of these battles.
      In fact, I have a feeling that this is exactly what will happen in the next episode. I bet Katy's Lokix will go down first, and then Floragato will have to battle two Pokémon by herself. The preview certainly focused on Floragato a lot.

    The fact that is was Iono who did the most damage is what makes it work better. Larry pretty much shows that you being a Gym Leader doesn't automatically make you weaker than an Elite 4 member since he gets to be both. Copperajah took hits from Spark, Liquidation and the super powered Zap Cannon, so it was damaged before hand. I'd have liked for them give each battle its own episode, but given how it played out its fine. Also helps that Poppy was the only one to lose thus far.

  • @13CrystalHeart

    I really like the strategies used and the artistic flair of Roy's battle.
    Also, I feel like Poppy's loss can be excused because she's the youngest and little kids don't really have the best attention spans. (And inb4 "she's nine", girl kinda gives the same vibes as Opal saying she's 16. Unless she has some growth disorder they haven't clarified, I'm kind of looking at her with a bit of skepticism. Still not great Copperajah got one-shot tho.)

    Just watched it (with subs) and whole yeah, Copperajah going down did feel a little Journeys-y, listening to Poppy and Iono challenge and cheer Dot, coaxing her and even letting her use strategy during the fight really made me appreciate her teamwork with Iono. Like, I can totally belive Bellibolt's ability would be super charged especially after the last time it was utilized during Dot's fight.

Plus I do believe that having a gym leader's ace, powered up, fighting an elite 4's non ace pokemon isn't really that bad as it looks, it did also have to take a lot of damage through the battle, discharge, liquidation, and a direct powered up zap cannon

    Probably a bit of an unpopular opinion going off your reaction to this episode. But overall thought it was a pretty nice one, think the battle was well animated, I liked the strategy’s used. Only problem was Dot and the the streamer gym leader winning, granted the strategy to distract while powering up a big blast was cool, but I feel like it should not have one shot especially when electric isn’t super effective against steel and when it’s an elite four Pokemon. Apart from that I don’t think it’s any where bad as some might say it is, definitely didn’t ruin them so far.

      I enjoyed most of Dot/Iono VS Poppy, but sadly I just don't think the ending was great. I was going to say the same thing because while I didn’t like how it concluded regarding Liko and Iono’s battle against Poppy (Considering how Copperajah was one-shotted felt a bit underwhelming which makes me feel sad since I love that Pokemon), I am not the biggest fan of one-shots in Pokemon and its not even remotely badly as some people would say considering it really didn’t feel *ruined* the elite four for me personally but moreso undermined and downplayed.
      I didn’t mind Iono because I love her to death but felt like Dot should have her fair share of the battle, at least balance it out of who does support or offense but issues aside, I loved it!!! 🥲

    I do understand why Dot and Iono's battle with Poppy is considered to be a disappointment because how easily both defeated her Copperajah. When watching the battle, we see Iono uses reflects to mitigate the power of Copperajah and Tinkaton's attacks. We also see Poppy's idea of using sandstorm and brick break to lower their defense. I also want to point out Dot's idea of using Terrastalization as a decoy to have Iono some time to confuse Copperajah to get the winning blow. I also like the detail of Poppy and Iono cheering up Dot because she feels that she didn't contribute too much in the battle. In which you could say kinda solves the power scaling situation

    To be fair I think the Elite Four were always displayed as a little overpowered in the anime. Like right before Ash battle Volkner, he lost a 3 v 1 against Flint's Infernape. Yet we're supposed to believe Ash would be ready to battle the Elite Four and the Champion if he won the Sinnoh League. Then again the writers might have purposely made them too strong because Ash was never meant to beat any of them.
    It took until XY for an Elite Four member to be defeated, and Alain was at a disadvantage when he won. In Journeys Ash finally defeated an Elite Four member, but after he already defeated a Champion Trainer with Iris, so we never really know when his Journey Pokémon became Elite Four level.
    I think they are nerfing the anime Elite Four strength, to make it more believable that a beginner Trainer can actually become a Champion level Trainer at a relative rate.

    In Dot's battle, I thought it wasn't that bad & it made sense how the battle played out: most of Dot's team took damage from only Sandstorm, Rock Smash, Brick Break, & Rock Slide (1st half of those moves do deal too much damage) & with Bellibolt kind of a tank, it made sense it was able to tough through & use Quaxly-charged Zap Cannon to Copperajah, Who Was the main one of Poppy's pokemon that kept taking all the damage (albeit overall it was mainly Iono's win than Dot's). For Roy's battle, it really was one-sided as most of it ended up with him powering up Baxcalibur to Glaive Rush a Double KO.
    - As for Sango's, it was declared that she Lost her battle as the rule was the 1st pokemon knocked out either side loses, and Glalie knocked itself out First with Self-Destruct to knock out everyone else.
    - Onyx I sorta get why he lost: Onyx is a Soldier-Warrior. He wasn't going to sacrifice/let Tulip (his tag partner/backup~subordinate) be defeated so he & Garganacl took the hit for her which made them lose. If Onyx hadn't, he'd feel like it'd be disgraceful to him. He really is a Soldier with a Warrior's Honor & Pride. He might be my favorite Explorer

    2:32 for the record JN's wasn't the only series to do that. it happened way earlier in hoenn and the battle frontier sagas which I know some people happen to like, once Ash got to Flannery, most of his important battles had the factor of Ash's pokemon taking so many hits yet winning with one good counter strike, kind of pace breaking the battle by doing so, the battle frontier was just as bad about that, I mean look at Ash's fight with Tucker, he clearly had Ash's number with his fire water combination tactics, yet somehow Swellow and Corphish were able to win with one good hit each, and before that his fight with Greta, alot of people think Ash's Snorlax had unlimited health due to how much damage it took.
    The only battle in JN's to me that truly gave me a similar feeling was Ash vs Drasna, because I won't deny that yes Sirfetch'd and Dracovish took abit much damage wise, but I was willing to overlook it in Sirfetch'd's case when it took down her mega altaria because she and her altaria were being way to smug and she deserved that loss.
    That said, It's clear the elite 4 are holding back, otherwise why wouldn't they use terra as well? I'm sure that if poppy had, she would've won no problem.

Maybe Iono and Dot should lose but also defeated Poppy’s Copperajah only at the same time. Basically the same result but more faints in Dot’s side…and maybe they should do a little bit more damage to Poppy’s Tinkaton(I don’t know). It’s not that serious battle anyway so…

    And yeah, Copperajah has realllllly high HP, but baaaaaad defenses in terms of game mechanics. Conversely, Baxcalibur is a tank unless you have a supereffective move, and its default ability, Thermal Exchange, actually gives it a power boost and blocks burns from fire attacks!
    I see where you're coming from, though! In that respect, Dot x Iono's battle seemed more reminiscent of playing the game and stomping the E4 (They were uhhhh... *not really challenging* to be blunt?) whereas Roy x Brassius' follows some more narrative realism.

      The events of the games are separate canon relative to the anime. It's the reason we don't see Brendan, Lucas, Hilbert, Hilda, Nate, Rosa, Calem, Elio, Selene, Victor & Gloria during Ash's tenure.
      Arven might appear in the anime at one point, if the writers could figure how to adapt his story, especially given that both Scarlet & Violet gave his slightly different stories, neither of which are happy.

  • @JoshuaRichie-xf2gs
    @JoshuaRichie-xf2gs 3 місяці тому

    In the games, after you beat the elite four and champion, you end up working in geeta's stead evaluating the strength of the regions gym leaders. Their pokemon are at the same experience level as the elite four and champion, roughly around level 60. The pokemon the gym leaders use when you challenge the gym in the earlier playthrough are merely testing your experience level at that stage in the game. (Spoilers)
    Same thing with geeta after you beat the story of the indigo disk. You face her again at her full strength, showing why she is the top champion. And if you want to contrast anime vs. gameplay, while the anime doesn't show level difference, the anime does show the difference in experience. They just always reset Ashes' experience because the show is targeted to children, not teenagers or adults. Additionally, Geeta, in the games, is not only the top champion. She is also the chairwoman of the pokemon League and the Academy. This was obviously planned and organized by Geeta and coordinated with Director Clavell and his battle studies instructor, Ms. Deedra. Realistically, it makes sense for this region, which has been given more structure than the previous regions.

    I feel like this episode would have worked a lot better if the elite four were only allowed to use one pokemon, and the battle was a 2v1. Then they could have had the elite four member slowly pushing back the gym leader's pokemon, then the student being the thing that pushes the gym leader over the edge and making it an even fight. Making it a 2v2 just really undermined the power of the elite four, because making this one a close battle implies that either the gym leader is stronger than the e4 member, or that the student is on par with an e4 pokemon, neither of which should be the case. A 2v1 would have allowed for creative teamwork strategies to overcome a clear power deficit, which is what I think the episode meant to portray.

    I disagree - I think there’s such a big cast of characters and the nature of paldea is more toward education than competition - it’s way more fitting that we meet the elite four early, that they also play a collaborative part in the students’ education.
    My biggest complaint is more that the show ignores perfectly good type match ups; quaxly could have used low sweep, fuecoco could have used stomping tantrum etc.
    Also y’all Roy is FINE. He was hyped after the battle! He’s using it as a chance to learn and he had fun, that’s what the show is telling us that matters, not just winning

    • @miikaroos3809
      @miikaroos3809 3 місяці тому

      To be fair, Quaxly was focusing on Tinkaton. Fighting-type attacks are not super-effective against it. Also, Fuecoco did use a super-effective move against the Dragons, Disarming Voice. Stomping Tantrum would have been his weakest move against Baxcalibur and Flapple.

      @@eljordinio7647 That's the thing though, I believe it's counted as an intentional knock out. Because it's no surprise what happens to your Pokemon when you tell it to explode, in calling out the move you are effectively fainting your own Pokemon.
      So with the rules set, whomever loses a Pokemon first loses for their team and because Self Destruct, a move that literally always knocks out your Pokemon was used, they count that as a knock out because the trainer chose to use it knowing full well their Pokemon was going down. Regardless of who faints first in the match up, the trainer choosing to use the move will automatically be considered as the one who fainted first. They made the move so they consider it fainted once the move succeeds.
