    I've been building my 12ft x 24ft goat barn for about 3 1/3 years by myself . I understand doing parts of projects as you get the supplies and money! Most of the videos I've seen just take a regular door and cut it in half and add extra hinges. Because of the slope of the barn roof, I needed custom-built doors. Thank you for showing how to do custom doors! Not a carpenter, just a 68 yr old retired female science school teacher.

    Beautiful Job! I want to do it myself now. Do you by any chance have a material list (cheat sheet) you can share? I kind of don't want to rebuild the wheel. :P

    Hi, love the door design. I have a question, how do you do the x in the door and what size screws do you use? Thank you

    Video was good, but you didn't show how to cut and attach the second X board on the frame.

    What a great job. Like you, I am building my pole barn as I can afford it. I love your sliding barn door and rail system. Do you have any video information on how you made that? I could use the help. thanks

    Hello! My husband and I are still setting up our homestead after moving last July, and the frame of a pole barn addition to our garage is going up now. We are putting roll-up doors on both of the far ends but I would like either a single over-sized Dutch door about like you built here, or even a double set of doors this size or slightly smaller. Do you happen to recall the dimensions of what your beautiful creation in this video? Would love to replicate it -- looks fantastic! Thanks, Heather

      Thanks Heather! These doors were 4 feet wide and 8 feet tall.

      @@JohnsonFamilyFarmstead Awesome. That's about what I suspected and finished my sketch-up and materials/cut list yesterday afternoon. One remaining question: Is the flat-lay board on top of the lower portion of the door a 1x4 or 1x2? Thanks!

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  4 роки тому +1

      It’s a 1x4

    Hi there, I've started building my Dutch doors and I like your process. It seems very simple however I do have one question about the measuring. When you take your opening measurement you said subtract a half inch all the way around. So for the bottom door for example, let's say I'm going 48" high and 48" across. I should take the half inch off so my door that I make should be 47x47. Is that right? Just trying to make sure I got what you were saying...lol.

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  Рік тому

      Yes, you got it. But I have found since this video I would go a bit smaller than a 1/2 inch. I did a 1/4 inch on each side on the last doors we made. So in your case it would be 47 1/2 x 47 1/2

    Did you put the top ledge in the bottom door after you finished it? I missed that step

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead
      @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead  2 роки тому +1

      I put the ledge on before finishing it. I measured the height counting the ledge.

    This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you decide which direction the boards go for the doors in relation to the boards for the barn walls? I noticed the upper part of the barn the boards for the wall and doors are vertical. The bottom of the barn is horizontal and the doors are vertical. Just curious. I would love to have such a beautiful barn. Our barns are steel. Great job!!

    • @JohnsonFamilyFarmstead

      We decided we wanted to break up the visual because our barn is really tall we wanted to break up the visual effect. A great way to decide is to look at other completed barns and get an idea of what you really like. We definitely got a ton of ideas from looking at other barns and incorporating what we loved from different barns into ours. We definitely comprised size for beauty. We could have done a larger steel building for sure.... but I would have filled it with to many animals lol.
