An album that never got the love and respect that it deserved. Such a great album.
I remember listening to this song at 11 & 12, finally got the courage to runaway from home. Lived on the streets, did hard drugs as a 15/16 year old and finally came back home when I realised that although I felt invisible, unseen and was physically abused at home, that in the end my parents did love me and this was evident by the lack of love I received on the streets, and seeing adults that were selling amphetamines and heroin for IV drug use to teens, that this was a cold and evil world where a youth didn’t belong. I would listen to this song on repeat because it made me feel validated and seen, and understood. Until today I still feel emotionally connected deeply to this song which gave me a feeling of being seen in a silent and lonely situation with the only way out being to Runaway, so I did, many times in my life to be fair. I’m 47 now, and now I’m running from different things, luckily not to the streets anymore. I’m always so grateful for this song for giving me validation and understanding as a confused, scared and emotionally lonely kid when I needed healing and to be heard. Thank you Bon Jovi, that lost, little girl is forever grateful today for such a soul connecting song 🤍
Saludos y bendiciones❤🎉😊🤲😇🤜🙏🤝
Thank you for sharing your story. I also play this a lot because it's emotionally strong and touches a subject rarely covered by pop music. Luka by Suzanne Vega is another one in the same vein.
@@illarionbykov7401 Thank you for being so kind, and for sharing your connection with the song as well. I wish songs like this would continue to be made, they evoke so much emotion. Music is Ike medicine for the soul, especially Bon Jovi’s🎶 Wishing you all the very best, kindest regards from a far.

Great song, it still rocks. Fun fact... Tim Pierce played ALL guitar parts for this track. Extraordinaire guitarist that has played on 100's of songs you know well.
Cool! 😄
He just released a video discussing exactly that today. :)
True, Jon hired session players for the whole album so the band here is totally faking it, sad
I just found out on Beatos channel not 20 minutes ago!! Tim is a beast, what-a-solo! All this time I thought it was Sambora. Wow. I hear his style in it-it's him! First I found out about his playing on "Don't Dream It's Over" awhile back, now this! Damn impressive! This is a song I've loved all my life, had a blast covering it in the clubs and I have Tim to thank! Is there a list of all the hits he's played on somewhere?
@@alansmith9948it's not sad. That's just the way things line up when you're a nobody trying to make it to the top. John did not have a record deal when he made this hit. He was progressing the best way he knew how and what the hell the guy did good. Same goes for Tom Schultz with Boston. Who recorded the whole damn album himself. Then he got a record deal and formed a band. It's cool
When this song got stuck in my head back in 1984 I never thought it would still be stuck in there 40 years later. 😎
......it will never die !

This is one of those rare songs that will continue to live even after we’ve all been gone for hundreds of years!!!
Bon Jovi's first hit remains one of their best songs ever! 🖤
Agree!!!
Honestly almost all Bon Jovi songs are good.
They were genuises.
Even though it’s very popular I still feel like this gets no where near enough attention as their other stuff, this is one of their best songs
F**k Yeah! My Fav!!
YES IT DOES!
Their first single, and it's still one of the greatest songs ever.
+Erin Elaine i wouldn't say the greatest, i would say it's an awesome song.
but SHOT THROUGH THE HEART in my opinion was a better song.
ROULETTE was also very good, but bon jovi didn't really give us there best material until around Slippery or Jersey, dont' get me wrong, Fahrenheit was awesome and it was the album that took off their career and i did like SECRET DREAMS and TOKYO ROAD and TO THE FIRE. but this would not be their best song,
cmon.. really better than WANTED.. let's be honest
+Martin Kuliza it's not called shot through the heart, it's called you give love a bad name dumbass
Jackson The Epic I'll take your 5days of silence as a "NO" lol
now, we can go back to being freinds ok
on a serious note though.
i'm not one to hate,
but..
the point was,
don't abuse people before you have the facts .. ok

+Martin Kuliza it's all a matter of opinion-- I like the harder rockin' early years myself
+Erin Elaine Yes mam, you nailed it!
Guess i’ll drop a comment for the sake of internet history. Shoutout dad for showing time Bon Jovi when I was growing up.
That particular song is over 40 years old, and still retain all of it's energy and beauty. And those spandex, leather trench coat, boots and the long hear could be tomorrow trend ! Thank for all the good years Bon Jovi. And Rest in peace Alec John Such, you won't be forgotten.
We lived in the Best Times my friend . The very pinnacle of good times xx❤️❤️
Not really 40 years old yet, this album was released in 1984. This means it's actually 38 years old as of now, so just 2 more years until it turns 40.

Some real music that todays generation truly misses...Ooooo shes a little Runaway.
Get off the pipe
You're projecting again
I think the song is about the love of a father the girl hasn't grown with and that she searches for her hole life on the streets or everywhere, even if she is not that girl who wears plastic, she thinks boys can give her that love but nothing compares to a father love. And her father realizes just now, when he's lost her, that he has made a hole in both their hearts.
I don't know but it is a good song
I know that it's a good song and you are my favorite female singer!

Mr Luteceo what Do you mean with: 'rock needs to go dark for some time'?
This is my personal opinion so please be kind! I feel that rock is like an old man trying to keep up with times trying to sound like he used to but he cant! Too many wanna be rock bands screaming and yelling about the same things over and over songs with meaning but not a soul. The only ones that carried the tourch in my opinion are the ones i ve mentioned. In the 80s you were hearing rock or metal and you could feel the energy and the vibe you wanted to get loose. Now its all technical and if you dont do this or that you are not rock. Let it sleep for some time so people can miss it and then boom a new era!
Except music nowadays is just as good, if not better.
Try Highly Suspect- favourite heavy rock band of this generation. Their songs differ a lot from each other so if you like hard rock they will have something you like for sure. My favourites are Highly Suspect Lydia, Highly Suspect Chicago and Highly Suspect Wolf.
I will never stop listening to this Masterpiece. Listen to it since the 80s. No, not feeling old, because we had MUSIC!!
Agreed💙💙
Yeah
Kick. Ass, man.
omg yes back when I was -22 years old
We were fun, wild and free! What an amazing era to have lived! Garage bands, street racing and beer runs!
This song was recorded with studio musicians. Jon did not have a band at the time but he knew he had a hit. He persuaded a local late night DJ to play it and that got the ball rolling.
I remember listening to this on a walkman when I hit the streets at 14. I'm not a girl but I was a runaway and it brought me a bit of comfort. Brings up a lot of pain now but sometimes that's not a bad thing.

I'll never forget when I first heard this great song 'back in the day'. I was in my dorm room at Seton Hall University hanging out with my roommate, and this local Jersey rock station mentioned that they have "something new" that you must hear, and then they played this masterpiece from a local, up and coming (their words) Jersey band called 'Bon Jovi'. I thought to myself, "what a PERFECT hard rock song", and the rest is history!

On the street where you live girls talk about their social lives
They're made of lipstick, plastic and paint

All your life all you asked
When is your Daddy gonna talk to you
But we're living in another world

Guaranteed to blow your mind
See you out on the streets

So you sit home alone

The late 70s started introducing better new rock.artists. Obviously the legends ere still around, but there was so much easy listening crap on the radio taking up space. the 80s were magical especially heading into the mid 80s. 80s - so distantly away, gone but never forgotten
The 80s where great
The 80s the last nice decade
Who is here right now? 2020 is the worst but I'm chilling with Mr.Jovi

and the journey began for an awesome Bon Jovi world!!!
as it is the third song in a row and I dont think of changing the channel
Most of Bon Jovi songs suck.
My brother and I used to play Contra and listen to this cassette ( yeah, I said it) back in the 80s, while he would steal my 30 lives. Good times.
my english teacher recommended me this song, and i´m actually loving it.
teacher jonathan if you ever see this, thank you so much for telling me to listen to this amazing song
I am Major of the Russian Army, and until the final victory over Nazism I will listen to Bon Jovi in my tank! Thanks to John, Richie and all the musicians.
1980 I was born this year
Made me happy to see Stranger Things include so many iconic 70's-80's songs.
Yes, that's true.
I'm going to murder someone

Man i really love 80s song tho im 18:)
@@whatever-it-takes hey man im 15 and the 80's is my life!
Who listens to this in november 2024
Music doesn't die. Lots of people.
Me😊
Absolutely love this song, never gets old
One of the best songs of Bon Jovi, maybe even the best one
for sure the best one
Gianluca P. for sure ur wrong! go listen to LOAP, always, its my life, roulette, breakout, king of the mountain and much more.... this is definately not the best
It's really good but I personally prefer livin on a prayer.
I totaly agree
Wojtek Filip no always is the best,no,you give love a bad name, no living on a prayer , i don't nooooo all of his musics are good love him!!!💜💞❤️
I was born on 2002 but these songs , these bands ( aerosmith , bon jovi , scorpions , acdc , red hot chili peppers, toto , queen , guns and roses , rem , kiss , U2 , abba , aha , roxette , survivor etc i dont remember all of them cuz i dont have a list xd ) are just so superior ..
led zeppelin , metallica , alice cooper , Twisted Sisters . Damn , a lot of bands/singers . There are more
My generation listens to billie eilish like wtf is this shit ?
Facts
These bands helped shape the era. The drivel mass produced lately has no feel, no soul, and leaves emptiness. It makes me happy to see some of today’s youth partaking in something that required a bit of talent to put together.
I was born 2009 and me too
The bass player you see in this video is Alec john Such.
November 14, 1951 - June 5, 2022
He was a manager of a rock bar and booked Jon Bon Jovi & the Wild Ones. They asked him to join the band.
And the rest is rock history..
Rock In Peace Alec..
Thank you for the info. Yes RIP Alec!🙏Thank you for your bass-playing rock 'n' roll soul❤!🎵🎶🎵
Who?
And he didn't play a note on the records.
@@billjonesthebarber Hugh McDonald, we all know...
To his credit, Alec co-wrote the song, “Diamond Ring”.
@@billjonesthebarber Farenheit was all his. Probably the first album too. And does it matter if he didn't come up with the bass lines in other albums? He was still the one who rocked them on stages for over a decade.
God, I love Hugh but his fans are so insecure.
This is almost 40 years ago I remember taping it off the radio on cassette
I remember making mixed tapes back then...
@@feliciahardy9723 Same.
Wish I'd been able to save some...
Shit. Kids these days dont know the struggle of the 3 second pause to record songs from the radio yo cassette. Took skill. And driving radio stations crazy demanding the songs we wanted to hear.
I did the same in the 90's (millennial here). Not with this specific song, but recording songs off the radio and pretending the quality wasn't rubbish when I showed it to my friends.
Timeless music! Never loses it's charm!
That solo always gets me goosebumps
And it is not Sambora playing it!
Correct! It's a Canadian guy called Aldo Nova!! Thank you and goodnight pop-pickers.
@@chrismack4320 nope, it was Tim Pierce...
Marcelo. I've just checked this. You're right!! Thanks for the correction. Not sure why I've been under the Aldo Nova misapprehension for many years, but now I know!!! Thanks again.

And in 2023 ??? Absolute CLASSIC, not just this particular song but the whole album definitely has stood the test of time !!! I'm pretty sure that this "beaut" will be listened to for MANY YEARS TO COME !
1984, 40 years later and still sounds good...?
I grew up listening to him my mom always played him in the car wherever we went. I'm almost 20 now.
This is the song that got me HOOKED on Bon Jovi. Amazing live!!😍😍😍
