    Your first comment on Hooper was amazing, he is extremely respected in Oz and across the ditch, conducts himself as class act on and off the field. However for the tests in the UK the Aussies have just lost 5 starting players, four to for family and club reasons and one injured so to not have their best starting players let alone any cohesion in the centres and play on fairly damp turf they are certainly no favourites to win any games in the Uk. As an Aussie I do not have high hopes but I wish the less experienced players all the very best.

Oz needs their absolutely best team on the paddock to beat any of the top 6 teams in the world. The all blacks have insane depth and their second string side could knock off most teams without doubt.

      This autumn is just a development period for everyone, including the NH opposition; you can tell by the squads selected for England and Wales particularly, they're not sweating on winning or losing these contests and neither should we, since the outcome is pretty meaningless after two years of disruption. Treat it as a practice and reconnaissance trip, look for the positives in the gameplan and forget the results.

    As an Australian, you’re spot on with your analysis. What you said about the crucial work Steve Hansen has done to repair our battered culture cannot be understated, and honestly it’s had a knock on effect down the levels to the local game.
    There’s one thing Cheika deserves credit for: handling Folau.
    He could easily have sat that one out and hidden behind the captain, sponsors, and eventually the executives. But as a Lebanese-Australian from a working class suburban Sydney background, his word on the matter against Folau and in support of the LGBT+ community weighed far, far more than just about anyone else’s in the decade.
    Australia’s player and supporter base is deeply conservative compared to the nation as a whole, with a disproportionately high number of evangelical Christians across all backgrounds. Cheika could resonate with that group a lot better than you or I or anyone in the comments, and it made a massive difference.

    • @ld5382
      @ld5382 2 роки тому +9

      That’s such an interesting take. Personally I’d completely disregarded the notion of Australian rugby’s fan base being highly conservative. Because from what I observed from the Folau situation was that Union has an upper class yet much more open minded fan base compared to say Rugby League which has a typically working class with more old school attitudes. It had never dawned on me to think the action from Cheika, Hooper and Rugby AU had made a difference in the attitudes of Australian rugby fans. I’m an Australian who grew up in NZ during my younger years so the “Rugby is for everyone” attitude came natural to me, so it’s interesting to have it pointed out just how much of a difference that could have made to attitudes in Aussie Rugby fans.

My local club san diego Legion is always pushing lgbtq propaganda yet play in a stadium for a catholic university you tell me who is more inclusive not once has the SD Legion club made an attempt to reach out for religious beliefs maybe because they don't want any beef like the crusaders and its logo basically in rugby Christians can't have a voice .

    • @Nizzleson
      @Nizzleson 2 роки тому +25

      @@mik23nh97 I don't think that's true.
      Players often celebrate together with prayer circles, wear crosses on their wrist tape, give thanks to the sky after scoring. This is a legit voice for Christianity (and other religions too) within the game.
      A player facing consequences for using his platform to oppress and marginalise a vulnerable group of people isn't controversial.
      Long and the short of it is, he was sacked not because he's a Christian, but because he's a rampant arsehole who was handed multiple chances to act professionally, and still chose not to.

    Australia developing nicely and nice to see them in good hands again. From a South African point of view the Quade, Kerevi combo changed that Aus team from the one we saw get cleaned swept by NZ. They didn't do stupid passes or over play, their kicking game was far more balanced and looked a lot like that first half in the 3rd test v BIL when FR came on. Raelene Castle got the short end of the stick in Australia I feel. Her two biggest contributions to rugby in Australia were to tell foxsports to get stuffed to secure a deal with Stan thus getting more eyeballs on the game and recruiting Dave Rennie. We have a lot to thank her for.

      @@mikeyarnam9272 I dunno mate, it was framed in all the media at the time, both positive and negative, that she was the one that made the call to not take the Foxtel deal. It was in the SMH as a positive thing and Newscorp raked her over the coals as a negative thing. Seems like that was her decision and she got the board on...board. You are correct that Stan Sport didn't exist until more than 6 months after Raelene left but Kayo is owned by Foxtel so Optus was probably the only serious contender (unless you can think of another one?) other than Foxtel to run a sports streaming service so it was the only other choice. Maybe if Stan Sport had existed she would have advocated for that instead, who knows?
      "Arguably" is correct. Johnson probably had a large role knowing the guy but from Rennie's own words he was impressed by her and her plan for the future and that formed a large part of the reason he signed.

    • @mikeyarnam9272
      @mikeyarnam9272 2 роки тому

      @@D4N1CU5 Raylene doesn't make a call on the Foxtel decision herself theres a board for a reason they cast a vote. Fox were never in the hunt did you see how low balled their offer was? they really didn't want it and for good reason the game was a joke and so was the product. RA had to wait out for something even if it was at a similar price just to get the game on FTA and thank god it was eventually Stan/Nine.On top of this the head negotiator at Optus openly stated that a deal was struggling to get through, this was the main reason IMO the board caved in on Raylene and lost their faith with her. The game needed clarity on its future.

    Dave Rennie was awesome with the Waikato Chiefs. And with Glasgow. Both Glasgow and Scotland took their eye off the ball losing Rennie for their chosen son Gregor Townsend (to be fair to GT he has become a pretty good international coach). As you have highlighted, DR has been building the Wallabies bottom up and playing for enjoyment.

      A lot of Welsh fans were calling for Rennie to succeed Gatland. I’m still disappointed we went with Pivac over him and Robertson even if they were just likely to be 4 year fixes because one of them will probably succeed foster at the All Blacks. I think the WRU went with Pivac because they thought they could keep him around longer. You never know though. It might of been a daunting task taking over from Gatland after he was in-charge for so long and had left his mark on Wales’ style of play.

    It’s an interesting time to be a Wallabies fan, it’s a shame we didn’t beat the kiwis in 3 games but this spring tour will be our opportunity to show the progress we’ve made. It’s time to break the losing streak against the English

    The best thing is now in 2021, it feels great to be a Wallabies fan in Oz without being treated like someone with mental disabilty by the rest of the nation. The winning streak plus the flurry of scandals from the AFL and rugby league side during the pandemic definitely helped.

    this is brilliant stuff. brilliant from you, brilliant from the aussies and as a kiwi its exciting to be across from a competent strategist that will force us to grow and expand. And the fact they figured out the south african defence better than we have is testament to their resurgence at the top of the world of rugby.
    maybe you should hire youself out to one of these top teams. you always seem to be right on top of everything the moment it happens.
    thanks for these breakdowns brother

    Someone finally summed up how I feel about Michael Cheika. Pity the poor Pumas; Ledesma's loyalty to his former Stade Francais and Australia boss will probably see the Cheik in post there until after the Argies bomb a second World Cup pool in a row. 🥺
    On a side note: I'm glad Stan Sport are playing ball (no pun intended) to allow you to finally cover SH competitions in detail. Looking forward to more of this 😊

    Fantastic video as usual! Would love to see one about Argentina's situation! Where we have been taken away from the spot we've earned with jaguares and forced back to the 2008 situation where our best players are all spread out andnour developing players have to face opposition that's not at our level (jaguares xv in the slar and Argentina xv wining 146 - 7 v Paraguay for example)

    We won't know if they are reborn until they play away from home against top tier sides. The Boks have not had a good record against them in Australia, the Argies made everyone look good, and despite scoring those 10 brilliant tries against the All Blacks, they still lost by plenty, albeit in part due to their own mistakes that they seem to have cleaned up. Having scored the 10 tries against the AB's, I can't help but feel that the poor showing from the Boks in the second test made them look even better and three of their 4 tries, as the video shows, were scored when the Boks were down a man.
    No excuses at all, just hard to exactly predict where they are as a team right now. Would be nice if this was a resurgence, but we won't know until they have completed their Autumn tour. Best of luck to them though!!

    Yes it could well be a New Born Wallabies emerging from out of the ashes. As a full-on All Blacks Supporter, in my opinion there's nothing more nerve wrecking and frightening as A Formidable Wallaby side especially with the elusive Backs and talents like Kerevi, kiribeti and so many others. It's often stated that Springboks Need the All Blacks to Validate them. Where as the All Blacks Need the Wallabies to fuel, stir and push them. The better a Wallabies team, the better it is for the All Blacks in the long-term. We rely on the Wallabies just us NZ people rely on employment in Australia as the money, lifestyle and opportunities are better. Just drawing a parallel to express how much we rely on a Top notch Wallabies side that really brings it to us and even humiliates us once in a while. We need an Aussie Wallabies side to be like this. Let's face it, there is No Two Teams that Glamorise Rugby with explosive entertainment as that of the All Blacks Vs Wallabies. Springboks are tough but no where near exciting as the Wallabies. Let's not forget the Greatest Rugby Game ever played before 109,000 people in 2000 at the ANZ Stadium
