- Why Starbucks Sucks to Work for! If you still wanna get hired there check out my other videos LOL linked below!
After working for starbucks for a long (enough) time, I know for a fact I did NOT get paid enough for all the work I did. I would be doing the job for 2-3 people and barely making ends meet. I would go above and beyond for a company that didn't care for me! I'd cover shifts, working 40+ hours a week for measly min wage. It wasn't worth it for me, but Starbucks could still be right for you!
My whole experience was not bad. My manager in college was always understanding and accommodated my school schedule. She was encouraging and open minded. Not everyone is like that but if you're lucky you'll get a manager like mine!

FAQs:
How old are you?
I’m 19 years old!
Where are you from?
I was born in Pennsylvania (in the US) moved to California when I was 6 and still live here. My family lives in the Bay Area but I go to college at UC Davis (near Sacramento). I moved back home to save money during quarantine lol
My ORIGINS are Indian. My family is Tamil; we are from Chennai. My grandparents (all four of them) still live there!
What do you study?
I’m currently studying Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior (yes obnoxiously long name haha)
How tall are you?
I am 5 foot 3.75 inches (it’s hard to tell on camera tbh)
What do you want to do career-wise?
I’m not sure to be honest. I kind of want to do into patent law (lawyer for people who invent and create things) but I also wouldn’t mind editing videos for a living (not necessarily my own, although I really enjoy it and would love doing it freelance as I continue to get better at it)
i’m so happy someone is talking about this. people think starbucks is such a great company that values it’s employees but honestly, it’s all PR. The reality is that baristas are underpaid, the company is constantly making new, unreasonable standards. Raising expectations but lowering labor hours. Not to mention, the customers are incredibly awful and we are expected to not just put up with gaslighting, and verbal abuse but we are expected to smile and give them free shit and reward awful, degrading behavior.
literally preach. the company acts like they are so righteous but they won’t provide enough labor cut hours bc they raised the wage a tiny bit which mind you isn’t not even close to enough to support oneself. customers are so insanely entitled. ofc there’s an occasional good one but when we get yelled at we have to just take it? uh no. the amount of shifts I’ve been asked to cover for a company that doesn’t care about individuals is insane.
I hope you can move on to a job that values you as a person and the ideas and what you can bring to them. You’re to good for starbucks I wish you the very best 💕
@@ManjarithePandicorn EXACTLY. Ugh i’m so glad at least some people understand what we go through 🥲 thanks so much for the kind words 💗

I'm happy too. I was a customer first and thought I could do this. 1 month in and its felt like I've been there longer and the job is HARD! not even memorizing the drinks. Literally the 3 day training didnt help either
@@NiaMSnow how are you now?
I'm a supervisor and I just gave my two weeks. I found a new job and I can't wait to be out of there...
Good for you!! I dunno how stressful the job was for you, but it really toyed w my mental health! Good luck w ur new job :)
@@ManjarithePandicorn I currently work there and it’s seriously messing w my mental health as well. I’ve only been working there for a month now but I might stay a bit longer before I dip
@@nadineh4767 sameee:)))
I just started and this was my first week. I had 3 training days then a shift was added randomly on my schedule this week where I was expected to be on my own all day. Absolutely insane. I was snapped at all day for not knowing things. I had 3 days of training where most of it was online. I also only saw the store manager once the entire week and I don't think ill be going back.
I quit my first week
My store has SERIOUS issues with sexual harassment from customers. And while the SM tried to do what they could, the DM literally doesn’t care. We’ve had multiple cases of one customer being predatory towards teenage girls, then he screamed in my face, but we’re still supposed to create that ✨third place experience✨ for him
See that’s another huge reason Starbucks disappoints me! We literally have to be a b*tch for the customer. Fact is, sometimes customer ARE wrong and need to be banned.
Anyways I’m really sorry. Third place experience can suck it; we all deserve to have some self respect dammit
What's third place experience?
@@Mayrita77 its a saying like how your home is the first place were u relax your work is the second and then the third place is Starbucks which is why workers always have to be positive so the customers feel comfortable like at home.
I've been working at Starbucks for a month now. Our Starbucks is heavily understaffed I've had to close this place down 5 hours earlier for the past few days because half of the staff is out rn. I also wasn't properly trained at all I've had to learn how to do the register and bar all on my own. It's very stressful and overwhelming, the only good part about this job is that they started me at $15.50 an hour.
Training has been so catastrophic. Our employees are so overflowed with things to do that i’ve been forced to learn everything on my own just like you explained. I really do enjoy it, i just feel the store is so busy that the environment is stressful for everyone. It’s definitely not at all what i expected :(
Unfortunately most fast food jobs are like that. Ideally you’re highly valued and good managers will work really hard to make sure you’re trained but most don’t even follow up. I’m sorry. Even if you like it sometimes it’s not worth it; make sure you’re doing what’s best for yourself! 💕
I recently quit because the stress wasn’t worth it, plus my store wasn’t taking proper COVID safety precautions
I worked at the beginning of covid before quitting and same! The job is way too stressful theyre v understaffed and it’s like for min wage I’m not sacrificing my mental health. Plus they barely took temps at the store I worked at lol! You quitting def prevented you from an outbreak..
I just got hired and Im already planning on quitting, I DO NOT like it AT ALL
@@caciel.o8743 I know the feeling, it’s really overwhelming and ever since I quit I feel so much better, always put your sanity first
I’ve been here for two months and I don’t think I would last long I still very slow on bar and register remembering the buttons for the drinks and the work environment is very toxic I already get the vibe my co workers are talking behind my back and it’s ok
Honestly leave. I was slow for like six months cuz I was never trained. It’s not worth it! There are just so many better jobs out there tbH!
Awe :( I’m sorry I’m scared of that happening to me too
But it's not OK though 😔
Ive been working at starbucks since November (which isnt that long) and i have been treated horribly by some coworkers, shift supervisors, and the manager once or twice. I did everything i could to do the best, they also didnt give me very good hot bar training. They never really put me on bar and i was strictly put on drive thru and customer support.
I’m working at Starbucks and I’m struggling because my coworkers are mind, evil and that bad aptitude with me. I’m not speak enough English, but I can do all my tasks and the drinks. Just the register is my weakest. Sometimes I don’t want to go because they always complained for everything and criticized everything. They are very toxic. I’m going to move other store. I hope in my new store the people will be nice or not toxic. Let me the opportunity to learn more.
That sounds about right :( not all stores are like this! I hope you find a good store for you that supports you and helps you! I’m sorry about your bad experience! I’ve been where you are but I have been able to Move on to healthier experiences!
How were you able to transfer ? I been dealing with the same thing and i swear i never signed up to deal with attitude and cocky egos. I want this job not need it so i want to know how i can transfer immediately if not im going to quit and maybe try re applying to another one ? Idk i need ideas and i need it asap please lmk what you guys think 😏
Some people in the comments have never worked fast food or retail, or any customer service job and it shows. Stop blaming the employees.. blame the corporations exploiting their workers.
Yeah starbucks is like that. People keep telling me oh starbucks gives you so much but they reality is they just give more than others so ppl think that’s enough. Starbucks makes more than enough money to pay people a living wage and give more benefits but they chose not too
I'm a partner and I'm not gonna lie this job is by far thee hardest job I've had in my life. I've worked for dozens of jobs. Thank God I have a decent manager that legit makes a big difference. I do wish the wage was better. Its 10.80 🥴
Sidenote my training was 3 days! Yes that's it
Edit: I quit 4 months ago.
Yup minimum wage sucks. It’s why I quit. It’s not a Main source of income so I’m just glad I never gotta work there again. They get so many complaints and still refuse to change
LOL girl I’m thinking about quitting I work at target / Starbucks
I’m sorry you had a really bad experience. I’ve been a partner for 4 years and the right training/management does make a difference. I was able to negotiate my pay with my DM and SM and thankfully they encourage support/speaking out. I hope you get a better experience at another job though. The management must’ve been burnt out or mishandled.
You sound like the ideal experience at Starbucks! I'm glad you and other ppl in your district get treated right! Honestly know that too many other ppl have crappy experiences like mine make me sad bc yeah starbucks is a big company but their goal really was to help employees :/
How do you ask for a pay raise honestly?
@@LeeTheGemini I directly talked to my SM and DM. it’s not much (like .25 more) but I have one of the highest paying SSVs at my previous store.
@@ManjarithePandicorn Life update: I transferred to another store annnddddd I’m resigning soon lol I’m at my 5th year and I felt like my growth with the company has stopped and the store’s management is insane. High turnover too! I got my first write up despite getting 2 POQ’s!! So wish me luck!
I just started two weeks ago and they just keep throwing me into random things and not really showing me how to do it :/
Been there! They just assume you know everything... honestly if they do that just be like hey I’m not familiar w how to do this can you please explain it so I can do a good job?
It’s lame but it’s better than being blamed when it’s not ur fault!
Manjari G True, thanks for the advice :)

How are you now? Everyday o am overwhelmed and so exhausted while at work
I feel you! I've been having this issue one barista has to do two or three people's jobs and still make peak times
I don’t understand why a multi billion dollar company is reducing labor so much! No way are they losing money... it just seems like they’re way too money hungry :/
I'm at Starbucks and I'm going to quit soon once I find another job I've had enough. my training sucked and I hardly learned anything .worst of all my trainer tested me on drinks I was never thought. People I work with are mean and very disrespectful towards me as well as my boss who ignores me or snaps at me. I'm not a person that gives up either but this job is messing with my mental and emotional health so I'll wave a white flag .
I work there right now. It’s terrible. The customers are rude. They treat you like your not human. I’m still here cause I’m in grad school and Graduate school is hard enough. Coming from stressful classes to angry customers is not it. Work somewhere else it’s not worth it.
I am very sorry. That’s how it’s been like for me. I honestly feel like it’s gotten worse for the customer service industry in general because it’s like this at my vet tech job too. I think people have just gotten more demanding and entitled unfortunately:( keep your eyes open for new opportunities that might pop up you never know! I’m always hear if you need anything else 💕
Loved working for Starbucks back in the day but it’s definitely not a career job unless you’re applying for manager position.
I'd have to agree. I did like some parts of the job but I could never do it full time like a lot of my coworkers. Does seem like most of them cannot make ends meet on their own though :(
I thought everyone knew this....
For me, it's not even about the money. I have another job that pays 15/hr. For me it's the insane nature of the company
i saw your other comment about leaving after 2 weeks... if you don’t mind me asking what is your $15/hr job? i just got hired at sbux and i’m already thinking of quitting but i’m not sure if i’m willing to go back to my old job lmao..
That’s totally valid. I mean not that the money is great but the insane nature of the company doesn’t train ppl properly and also had me deal with so many awful coworkers who would never teach me anything. Plus straight up bullying in the workplace. Never again will I subject myself to being treated so badly. I didn’t even realize it wasn’t normal till I went to my new job and it was so different.
@@samiedelarosa8795 I do Instacart and make a lot more than my Starbucks job :/ I put in my 2 week notice today because I can’t handle the stress and mental pain of Starbucks anymore

Nik that’s so messed up wth!! I’ve been there too it’s the worst honestly. Without training making drinks is super hard. It only became easy for me with practice. Nothing is just easy without practice. Starbucks is lame for not giving you proper training

$13 an hour is above minimum wage where I live and probably where Mary lives. But yeah being a janitor is not very fun at all. Been there..actually doing that as I type this.
They were way too hard for $13 an hour and no one should have to be the janitor or deep clean one night a week
@@bagofruit375 well yeah but where I live the minimum wage is 13$. Different states have different min wages for different costs of living. For example Kentucky is like 7.50$. Either way for how busy and understaffed stores are rn they shouldn’t get paid so little
@@marysaade4343 agreed! You know how hard they expect us to go for clean play? I better get paid for double my wage for how intense the labor can get
The place i work at has a Starbucks and we have all the recipes and the same ingredients. I run the front desk and the Starbucks at the same time kinda stressful. I never got trained to make any drinks I was just told "its all in the book" or "its so easy." I'm literally flipping through a whole book to find the specific drink a customer asked for and they never tell me "oh we actually don't have that drink or those ingredients here." And I'm running around the little cafe looking for the coconut milk💀. At least tell me that the ingredient I've been looking for 3 min is in a completely different bottle.
I’m sorry that sucks. I’ve had it bad at work but luckily not that bad. Honestly the big reason I finally became good at drinks is practice. I’m sorry they do that to you. See if you can transfer tbh
@@ManjarithePandicorn its been 2 weeks and I'm finally used to it. Still have to look up how to make most things but I now know where everything is so I'm mostly good. I'm still left alone so I was wondering if i could ask you some questions as someone who has had way more practice than me.
When steaming milk to what line do I fill up the metal thing for all the sizes. I always end up doing to much or too little. And our machine has setting for latte steam and I believe its cappuccino steam. I always do latte but I was wondering if that's wrong. And if you had any tips for steaming that would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
@@jazz2210 it’s always good to do a bit more! I mean it sucks to waste but starbucks doesn’t care. Also if you don’t make enough foam for a latte you may be below the line and make not enough milk. Steam for like 3-5 seconds at the top only for foam
Did y’all get tip Tuesday? I just got hired at Starbucks Friday and so far it’s off to a good stop. I get paid a few dollars more than minimal wage, lots of free stuff, and tip Tuesday. I’ll leave an update when I start in 2 weeks. He said they plan their schedule 3 weeks ahead so I’ll know all my hours weeks ahead which is nice.
Yeah, we got tips weekly. How good they are depend on how good the tip amount was. When I worked at the drive thru it was like 0.4$ an hour and when I worked at this nice cafe it was $1.00 an hour.
Tips are not specific on Tuesday tho so idk what that is.
For me my issue is not with the tips (or the pay really although I got exactly minimum wage which is not enough to support myself) or scheduling but with my lack of training, drama, and the value of the online school.
Despite my experience some ppl still enjoy it and I’m sure you will too! Good luck!

It just sucks working somewhere you thought was going to be a great experience but is actually the opposite
@@nadineh4767 Yeah that’s what it was like for me too. Eventually you just start doing it enough and have to get good but it takes time bc ur having to learn it on ur own sadly :/
Felt! Even though my trainer (trained at another store) did a great job training me, I felt like I needed more guidance and practice 🥺. I got some help when I asked, but I've had a SL give me crap over small things, especially the way I placed an order. Yeah, I could have asked if it was correct, but the customer insisted that she was told to order the way she told me 😐. Things are slowly getting better, most of my shift leads have tried to put me on bar more often bc there was a time when I was always thrown on register
Dude i've been working here for a little over a month and I just quit today. My manager wrote me up because I had to call in last week (the only time i've called in) and she got after me for texting people for coverage instead of calling even though she just told me to ask around. She said she was able to find coverage for me in 5 minutes and i asked her who came in for me and it was one of the first people i had texted and asked. They had told me they weren't able to cover for me. I called the store within plenty of time but she said it was short notice even though it wasnt. Im over here like well why tf would that matter if you found someone in 5 minutes anyways? Then she asks me what I've done so far in the store and i said i've only been put on drive thru since my training and I feel comfortable there it's just i tend to forget a few things. And she told me I'm not doing a very good job at all and she's not even going to think about moving me around like everyone else because I need to do better at drive thru. She told me the next time she has to tell me to do better I'm either getting a write up or getting fired. Mind you she'll schedule me two days one week, and then my next shift will be a whole week later. How am i supposed to remember or get better at my job if she's giving such little hours? My availability is also completely open so i'm not sure why she does that. And the whole time she was talking to me about all of this, she was saying "does that make sense?" "do you understand that?" like I'm such a stupid person and can't comprehend simple sentences. This was my last straw at this company as there have been plenty of minor things that have happened, but I was able to put up with. Such condescending, and passive agressive shift supervisors as well. I'm glad i won't be affiliated with that company anymore.
As you should!!!! Promise there are way better jobs out there and I’m happy you got out :)
Apart from the drive thru because my shop doesn't have one I feel like I'm reading about myself. I have been there for 2 months and I'm just being kept on till when I should be training to be a shift supervisor, I'm looking for work somewhere else.
@@Shiro92224 I know its 8 months later but how did it go for you? Did you end up quitting? Its been a year since i quit and I'm so glad i left when i decided to. I have a respectable manager now and i'm making way more than i ever did at SB

I just started a week ago and I wish I saw this video first. It’s so exhausting having to do EVERYTHING. Like I thought I would just be making drinks or doing reg not cleaning, restocking, etc… and all for $15 and hour?? Wtf
And the fact that some people aren’t patient with the newbies…like damn
Sounds about right. I’m sorry it sucks I can Promise you there are jobs out there that will value you. It’s a huge company so it’s unfortunate they do not care about the struggles of individual employees. Do not feel bad for quitting. No job is worth feeling anxious 24/7
I always think about how I could never be a barista hahaha I feel like I’ve seen a lot of tik toks about the negatives of working there
I mean SB might work for some ppl but it's gotten so toxic and the company really just cares abt themselves since they're HUGE
Did get training but wished they did it properly so I can get my job done.
I've been a partner since last year, however recently the stress of the job has been hitting me hard. The constant hyperfixiation on drive-thru times & churning out the drinks has made me feel like I'm not learning nor growing, just doing the same repetitive things for the sake of my higher-ups recieving the credit. Not to mention our SM consistently hiring newbies while simultaneously leaving us understaffed & cutting our hours due to sheer amount of new hires. It's ridiculous.
I've been applying left and right to other, more mellow barista positions, so here's to hoping I can quit soon!
Ugh I'm sorry :( Honestly, if you arent in the right starbucks work place the job isn't worth it in my opinion!
@@ManjarithePandicorn I've since quit & have gotten job experience in small coffee shops! It's been much better and I couldn't be more glad that I left Starbucks ☺️
I honestly feel like it is time to leave the siren behind. I have felt so much ageism in the workplace between the two stores I've been at in the last year and a half. Not only that, but coaching has become more toxic than constructive because they're forcing it constantly in my district.
That’s awful. I feel it though. One of the stores I worked refused to promote this lady because she was older even though she was a full time barista for years. If you still wanna work for them maybe considering moving and transferring cuz not all stores are toxic (though my experience is that a lot of them are). Honestly do what’s best for you and your health. Big corporations like starbucks don’t care :///
They’re not gonna play for your classes because you need to pass the class so if you don’t pass it why should they pay for the class
Yeah, their online college that's supposedly free has SO many disclaimers that make it...not free
They cover tuition/fees. Books and supplies are not covered but you can easily apply for scholarships and grants etc to cover those.
Hi I need advice, and I’m afraid of asking people around me! Anyone can message. So I have two jobs (I do both part-time), the first is Starbucks and I work on the mornings, and then nights are my other job. I do school in between jobs, but I’m not sticking with Starbucks. I’ve been working at my store for a month, but I don’t know if should give it another month? It’s pretty stressful and nerve-wrecking for me. Both jobs offer same pay, but just a .50 difference.
Idk if I should put my two weeks, or give Starbucks a little bit more time to marinate? They still haven’t paid me yet for Covid pay or regular direct deposit yet. So I wanna get paid before I separate from Starbucks, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle a year of this job?

I mean, I work for Starbucks and my wage is decent. Maybe it’s because I live in California, but $15.77 is okay. I’d make more with my hours if I wasn’t a minor, but it is okay. I never really have customers screaming at me, they usually just have bad attitudes being the worst and it’s very far in between from the good people that I deal with. It’s very different every person that I deal with. I don’t mind staying here for a while.
I think that makes sense! For a lot of people it becomes that there are far more bad days then good. Then I think quitting is a good option. Glad it’s not too bad for you.
When I worked living in California I made 13.02 in June 2020 so that was not worth it for me.
I think it's important to have perspective. Personally, I've had jobs where I do way more than what Starbucks baristas have to do but got paid less while also not getting benefits. I feel the wage + benefits make it one of the better jobs out there. I do agree, $13/hr will make it tough to support yourself especially if you're a student.
Agreed, it's def about perspective! For me, I was able to find a job at a vet clinic where I get paid 17$/hour with 2$ wage increase every 6 months and benefits still. For me, I realized I was settling. I'm really glad it works for you though! I'm glad you had a much better experience that me!
I literally just got hired and I don't think I'll be accepting the offer😕 what should I say but that it doesn't look bad tho ?
Thank you for the video ☺️
Sorry for the late response but you can always just be like hey after talking to you guys snd hearing what the job is like I don’t think it works well for me or something like that. There’s tons of ppl constantly applying so you don’t have to worry! Good luck!
What jobs are better do you think while caring for your mental health, not so stressful?
I honestly think it’s the workplace. I work in the vet field now and I’ve been at two places. One of them is super busy and stressful and the other one is way calmer. From my experience, it’s about finding a healthy environment. No work place will be great unless you have the right coworkers and environment. My job rn can be stressful as animals bite, run, scratch etc. Regardless I feel supported and get paid well and have made life long friends unlike starbucks so it’s an upgrade for me. I say try anything but focus on if the work environment is toxic or not.
Good luck and feel free to contact me with any other questions !!
Honestly it’s probably your Starbucks or idk but I feel like it’s people who like coffee a lot would have it easier on making the coffee so it would get easy on the Journey I want to work at there for my first job
I’ve worked at over 10 different stores so yes environments can be different. Mostly though, based on the majority of stores, they can be very cliquey. I’ve made many friends and had some good managers but bottom line is it wasn’t a healthy environment for the most part.
Pretty much everyone who worked at my store drinks coffee now including me. Of course I was 17 when I started so I didn’t really but by the time I left I realy did like espresso!
Unfortunately, it is not like that. It doesn't really matter if you like coffee or not. In Starbucks all drinks are made according to strict rules, you just have to do coffee as they tell you, all drinks should be identical, made the same way by everyone so drinks taste the same for everyone buying them. I was working for Starbucks a few years ago. The atmosphere was toxic, clients sometimes very rude and demanding, work hectic. My physical and mental health went down very much, so I just quit and relief was great...
@@magz212 I do have to agree. Happened to me too! Before I worked there I totally idealized working at starbucks honestly :/

If I were you, don't make this comment from recent employer/company because your next job might see this. If you talked about starbucks like this, some employer will think you will do it to every company you go and put on youtube.
Totally understand your point. Luckily, I already have another job :)
Personally I believe in general that mothers should just be paid more because they are not working for themselves they are working for a family of either one or multiple children and that's just my opinion 🙄
I know that this does not always work and that there should be qualifications and that people may still try to take advantage of that I know there's a lot of factors that could be concluded in that.
But for honest hardworking moms I wish that there was more
I JUST REALIZED !!!
I don't want to be biased and the truth of the matter is are also are a lot of single hardworking men and dads and they should also be paid more as well there should be a thing that is done where they are able to look into these people's finances as a whole to see if they are getting income from other sources or other people for example CSupport.
But truthfully I just believe you're not working for yourself you're really working for your baby your kid or your kids or your entire family and that should be taken into consideration I think that that's one of the things that lacks and why a lot of families and people are struggling so much because it does not make sense and it is completely out of balance
Just quit working there today
Good for you!! Hope you felt like it was the right choice for urself (:
I know this is an old video, but I work at the Starbucks target and the pay is great and the scheduling is awesome.but I’m finding myself calling out and not caring as much as I did before. I guess I’m just a bit burnt out, but I have a learning disability and didn’t tell them at first, only when they didn’t train me, and my boss talked to me about my performance. I honestly don’t have a problem with it, I just feel like quitting because I want something more.should I go for it ?
if you feel like it’s not worth your time and energy go for it
10:50 the part about the milk is actually a food safety violation, no food service place in the US is supposed to be doing that
i have no doubt it’s true but those who work at starbucks don’t care since it doesn’t cost them much to care and nobody teaches them the correct way :((
@@ManjarithePandicorn oh no ;,( I just applied too. Same. I've def cried in the bathroom a lot
We need to tip Starbucks workers more often!!!!!!!!!!
Dude tips are crazy sometimes! When I worked 20 hours a week I'd get around 20$ for tips (since they divided it about how mny hours you work)! It's like getting 1$ raise lol
The degree does not say online on it. I’m sorry, but claiming that it doesn’t translate in real life jobs is simply not true. I am with you, they don’t pay enough for what they expect but the benefits far outweigh almost every other company out there. The Starbucks ASU program is a great benefit. It’s never a bad idea to get free education. Use it. Then leave. I am sorry to hear about your friend though, I am in a similar situation. Been working in food and beverage for over 20 years and I am college educated with nearly 50K in debt. The problem lies within our disgusting capitalistic system. Starbucks is a good option for a lot of people.
I’m not saying degrees don’t translate to real life jobs. I’m saying the degrees offered by the programs covered by starbucks don’t translate to real life jobs. Also, everyone I know had to take out personal loans to cover the “free” tuition bc how it works is you pay out of pocket and get reimbursed later if you don’t fail classes. I’m just saying this as the reality for the hundreds of ppl I’ve met who has the expectation of getting a salary job or more stable work and think ASU will guarantee that.
So is the scap program not worth was going to do the English track to become an English teacher I just don’t know if that paper will qualify me for jobs lol. I know you have to work at least 20 hours a week to qualify.
I can't speak on that bc unfortunately idk and dont have experience with that. I'd see if you know anyone who tried the program and what degrees they tried for. I asked around with my coworkers and i barely even knew ppl who did ASU
this was so informative!
madeline morphis thanks for watching!!
Never see barista’s washing their hands especially during Covid
When I worked during covid, we were enforced to wash our hands every 15 minutes. Of course I think that depends store to store. I've also seen stores where ppl dont wash their hands frequently :/
Go into a factory....they don’t wash their hands AT ALLLLL.
Oh honey get a job at a hospital. You’ll be living Starbucks. I did equipment and supply at a hospital for 14 an hour. Staying late, no breaks (especially with covid) and I only took a one dollar pay cut moving to Starbucks.
I do actually work at a hospital rn! Get paid 10$ more and they work around my school so it’s better fit me :)
Not gonna lie, I do the milk thing. I guess I didn't realize that was gross. I only do it if they have the same expiration date.
TopHatKitty i dont think it is gross tho; I’ve been told not to do that tho but I see shifts doing it all the time so I don’t understand if it’s okay or not omg! like the thing is Starbucks goes thru so much milk the expiration date doesn’t matter except for health code guidelines but nobody sticks to consistent rules about it smh honestly it’s not ur fault
@@ManjarithePandicorn exactly. I work at the highest volume store in my district with literally the least space (prime real estate in Cali means no space because of rent and lots of customers) so we go through all of our milk every two days. I've never seen us have expired milk once. It's always really fresh milk.
TopHatKitty dude even when I worked in non busy stores lol we’d go through a solid 8-10 2 per milks in a day not to mention the others. I just wish starbucks would be clearer about rules and be better about teaching and enforcing so I don’t get yelled at when I was m’informer
@@ManjarithePandicorn preach
@@TopHatKitty I agree and I don’t give a shit but I do see people stock milk that shouldn’t be stocked before others so I guess it’s also to check if it’s the first batch you should use if you just got the truck or something
You seem to be under the impression that employees working the same job should be entitled to getting raises on a regular basis. That's not how the world works. You don't automatically get paid more for doing the same job you did 7 years ago. Sure, you've improved your skillset overall, but you're still doing the same stuff you did 7 years ago...running the cashier, making drinks, handling inventory, cleaning tables, etc. But you're still basically the same worker from 6 years ago. You want to be paid more, take that experience from Starbucks and parlay it into a better job somewhere else. That's how it works.
13 Dollars an hour, thats crazy, they started me off with 16.
This was also in 2020, but it’s still not great LOL
I’ve applied at Starbucks and was really excited to get an interview, is it really that bad?
nah! it's fairly low pressure don't worry! they'll ask a question about like ur fave drink (shows that you do research/like the company) and like what do you do if a customer doesn't like a drink etc.
You got this :) Good luck!
@@ManjarithePandicorn thanks so much, they told me they’ll call me back if they’re interest on FEB 1, should I call them back during that time?
@@juliusmendoza8382 I would honestly recommend waiting. If they don’t call on Feb 1, call a day or two later and be like, hey I got an interview and didn’t get a call back so I was just wondering if I should keep and eye out for any calls from you guys still or something like that!
Yes and it's only been 2 months for me
My training starts Tuesday at a busy location any advice 😢
Sorry for the late response but honestly just keep asking questions! It does get easier but if the environment feels toxic there’s nothing wrong in quitting (:
I know Starbucks employees work hard. I don't think Starbucks is the place to make top dollar to compensate your hard work as a floor employee. I'm going to exaggerate here but the reality is that I will never pay $10 for a cup of coffee and this means Starbucks will have a top dollar limit on how much your raise will be. Im sorry.
Hey guys
What I have learned is that we all live in an imperfect world. EVERY job has flaws.
The issue is not focusing on the issues of the company but finding a solution. As someone who has worked in customer service, this is what younger people must learn or you will NEVER be happy.
That’s true but I don’t think mental health should ever be a sacrifice or constantly dealing with drama. Not having that many benefits like maybe no childcare okay it sucks but not the end of the world but crying after every shift? That should not be considered normal.
I still want to work there..
that’s okay! i just think ppl should know some of the downsides that’s all but if you know them and it’s still worth it for you that’s understandable !
Masochist
Ain’t big coporations great? Keep the shareholders happy bottom line
LOL yeah they don’t really care about individual employees
You should watch my videos and hear what I went through in nyc....I was there for 10 years
What do these managers get paid?
I doubt much tbh. They are salaried but depending on the location not a ton. In California I think it’s the 70-90k range in the Bay Area
One word : INCONSISTENT
rttttr
bruh we get paid 11.90
You prolly work in a state with a lower cost of living. I live in CA where the minimum wage is 13$ so getting paid 13.02 was a joke
And the recent communication from corporate: "You've been telling us that a competitive wage and benefits are still one of the top priorities for you .... and we hear you! ..... Here is a 5% raise!"
Now... don't we all feel valued making maybe 10 cents more an hour??? 🙄

If a beautiful, highly intelligent & eloquent lady like you says this then i believe it!
You need Xanax to work there
Hahaha you made me laugh!!
As a partner of 12 years and a SSV now, I can attest to this. 💀
STARBUCKS job is meant to work there while you were in college and then get out why should they have to pay for your child care
I have to disagree! Most of the people in my stores were not students- 90% of the staff in the 3 stores I worked at were full time , often with families and children. In fact, a lot of my coworkers either had a kid while in school and had to drop out or couldnt afford to pay for school anymore etc. Ideally, it should be a job for students to make money. But too many of my coworkers (I'd say 50-60%) get government aid, food stamps etc. to support their families. That's why i think benefits like childcare do matter. Esp bc starbucks is a big company I know a lot of employees would benefit from childcare
@@ManjarithePandicorn this is so true!
I'm in college but all my other colleges are not studying and some of them are parents.
@@sandraelizabethcuatecopere7904 exactly!!
No shade but sounds like this girl was just complaining… Starbucks gives their partners (employees) a lot more benefits than other companies. If you want a job making 100k sitting behind a desk typing you’re going to need a degree. If you’re just a student that needs some cash and healthcare Starbucks isn’t bad.
I think starbucks does offer good perks to employees but financially they can offer way more. I know people with degrees working at starbucks living off food stamps cuz they don’t get paid enough. Starbucks was good for me at time and it’s good for my coworkers who needed healthcare if they just got off their patents but a lot of my coworkers have kids and families so starbucks isn’t enough to support them. Im just saying these things so people consider every aspect before thinking that star bucks is the perfect job!
@@ManjarithePandicorn but why do they have degrees and still work at Starbucks? 🤔 kinda seems like a personal problem versus a problem with what Starbucks offers, which it presented like a high school or college job. They don’t even portray it like this is the best career in the world that’s why you’re allowed free online school, to better yourself. Just sounds like the ppl you know didn’t take that opportunity. Starbucks is a good stepping stone, and better than pretty much any other fast food place you can work at.
@@carmenalexis4787 m’y coworkers used the ASU online because they could not afford college without ASUs tuition reimbursement program. they got a degree but applied and couldn’t get jobs else where
@@ManjarithePandicorn when attending school online you must do things like volunteer and intern to get the hands on experience you need to put on your resume. If your friend didn’t do that it’s not Starbucks fault, like I said before the things you’re describing aren’t company problems those are personal problems those ppl had. Starbucks is a great stepping stone for some.
@@carmenalexis4787 exactly my point- it’s good for some. People I know came from families that kicked them out at 18 and had bills to pay for with all odds stacked against them. Starbucks worked fine for me because I just wanted a job and side cash. For them even though it seemed like it was easy to work out isn’t not- working 40 hours to pay bills and eat while trying to go to school and doing internships and volunteering just isn’t reasonable. Starbucks boasts itself on being flexible and understanding but that just isn’t the case. It depends on ur manager snd individual situations. My manager in high school was not understanding at all! My manager in college was incredibly understanding. So yes it is a starbucks problem. Because when me and my coworkers have tried to complained to the DM they didn’t help.
If it sucks so bad why stay for so long????
Didn’t have many other opportunities. I was constantly applying to other jobs but it took forever to find another job
You complain ALOT
i mean that was the point of the video so
You are expected to clean, make coffee drinks, and be pleasant to people... All low, low, low, skill tasks... It doesn't deserve more than minimum wage. If you don't like it, gain a skill that pays more.
Unfortunately that is NOT all the job entails. It's also never saying a bad word to anyone even when you get yelled at by customers instead of them requesting stuff nicely. I've had customers throw drinks at me. No matter WHAT that is not something ANYONE should put up with.
And also, it does deserve more than minimum wage. Dealing with people saying nasty things all day and being overworked when we should have double the staff- minimum wage does NOT cut it.
@@ManjarithePandicorn I completely agree with you. Working in a service oriented occupation seems to be never appreciated as it should by those who benefit from the service. I, for one, believe that every person should work in some capacity that places them in service to others (grocery store clerk, food service, waiter, etc...) so that they develop the ability to empathize with those rendering the service. And you are right, assaulting someone by throwing a drink on them is a crime and should be prosecuted as such. However, the wonderful thing about our country is that we have the free will to decide what our labor is worth, and likewise, so does the employer who pays for the labor. If one's labor seems under valued by an employer, that employee should quit. I would suggest that it would be unwise to forgo any employment before seeking advanced skills and education that makes your labor more valuable to other potential employers. Skilled technical laborers and academically trained laborers with specialized knowledge are rare, and therefore can command a higher wage than someone who does not posses the aforementioned marketable skills. I'm sorry, but dealing with rude people is not a high level skill. Making coffee drinks at a Starbucks is not a high level skill that requires masterful technical know how. If you want to be valued, set yourself up to be valuable. No one can require anyone to work in fast food, just as no one can demand that employer pay a certain wage to any employee. It is an elective choice for both. Successful people work for their success and strive to better their marketability. Businesses do not owe their employees anything beyond payment for the job as accepted in the negotiation at the beginning of the course of employment.
I do just want to say, as an update, minimum wage in my state is 11.20 and I get paid 15.25 starting out. There’s a shift supervisor I know who gets paid $21 per hour after she went from barista to shift supervisor. The training I did was 48 hours. (My manager said that was the minimum) But you’re so right, it’s still very inconsistent across stores, it’s to say being the standards and what’s acceptable and what’s not.
