Hi Mark, An on-off switch on most domes is not necessary. If the system you are going to install was built within the last 10 years or so, the chart plotter/multi screen unit will automatically power up/down the dome as necessary. Keep in mind you may have some set-up parameters on your multi screen you will need to customize to the exact dome model per the manufacturer's instructions. Newer units of the past few years, this function is automatically done for you. Also, I make sure I don't allow the unit to remain in 'standby' mode as it keeps the heating elements on (dome warmup) and wastes power.
