Oh wow! Those are great! Nothing better than NOT needing to buy cages! Yes Sir! Glad to see Ya'll doing good. Stay safe and stay well! Thank you for sharing how you made these cages!
Thank ya sir and I thank ya for watching!! We're pretty pleased with how them cages turned out, we just have a make a bunch more lol!! Take care my friend and have a good week!! Dan
Thank ya for watching Mr Larry and yes sir, I have some tent stakes somewhere, we'll give them a try if not, we'll look into using some rebar to hold them cages down!! Have a good week sir, stay safe!! Dan
Thank ya for watching and commenting Mrs Paula, we're gonna try some old tent stakes, the drip clips will not work for sure!! have a good Tuesday!! Dan
Wow brother those came out awesome! Once you run the chicken wire around the bottom they will be perfect! Great DIY project! Thanks for sharing this my friend!
My husband and I did not have time until this weekend to plant seeds in our containers and raised bed. I was really glad to do something. My hose sprayer was broken and I only had a bag and 1/2 of garden soil and 2 little bags of seed starter soil. I found 2 sprayer nozzles that I must have bought one time on clearance. We’re trying to make do with what we have.
Thank ya for watching sir and I agree with ya on the staples, I don't think they'll hold hat cage down over here either!! I have some tent stakes that I'm gonna try and possibly some rebar!! Hope all is well with you and yours, stay safe over there!! Dan
Nice mater cages ya made there Sir. Grab ya some of those metal tent stakes will hold those down if'n those staples don't work. Thanks for the tips and how to make a mater cage. Stay safe over there my friends and keep that shine on brother!
Thank ya for watching brother and no sir, them staples ain't gonna work lol, small gust of wind will blow them cages over!! I do have a some tent stakes somewhere and we shonuff gonna give them a try!! Y'all have a good safe week my friend!! Dan
Thank ya for watching and commenting PAPA Texas, we're gonna try some old tent stakes and se how that does!! Have a good week sir, stay safe over there!! Dan
Thank ya Mr Klaus and I thank ya for watching sir!! We're gonna try some old tent stakes first then some rebar if that doesn't hold them cages down!! have a good week my friend!! Dan
Good morning Dan. Nice looking cages. I think I could use a few more this year. I;ll come up with something somehow. Stay safe over there. Best wishes Bob.
Thank ya for watching Mr Bob!! We're really pleased on how the cages turned out sir, I just have to get to making a few more lol!! have a good week my friend!! Dan
I used the concrete wire but I bought it 3-4 years back when it was $50 a roll. They tended to fall over in the wind so I put them butted up against each other. Then I put a 5 foot piece of rebar into the ground about 1 1/2 feet deep. Then I ziptied 2 cages to each rebar and daisy chained them together . I ended up with 5 towers using 4 rebar rods in each row. The roll was 5' tall and long enough that we got 10 towers out of it. It was probably the best idea I'd ever borrowed from youtube. It's likely overkill but it works really well.
Thank ya for watching Pokey Puppy and it sounds like you sure enough have it going on over there using the remesh!! We're gonna save up and buy a roll and give it a try soon!! Have a good safe week!! Dan
Thank ya for watching my friend and no sir, those staples won't hold up, we're gonna try using some old tent stakes and see what happens!! Be safe over there sir!! Dan
Last year I used raised beds and hung them from string, my husband is stuck at home so he built me wood to string them up, built to last for years. Good growing buddy
I hear ya RG, I gave all my funnel cages to my neighbor, just to awkward to stack, these kinda grew on me so we'll give them a try this year!! Thank ya for watching sir!! Dan
Repurpose all you can..use what you have. A Savings is a savings and the tomato plants don't care one way or the other!! Looking good brother Dan...looking good.
Dan when all this coronavirus stuff is over I got about 15 or 20 tomato cages made out of concrete wire you can have. Just come on to north Alabama and get them.
That is a good idea ive been thinking about how im going to do mine this year i may steal your idea. Stay safe down there Dan and Have a great weekend led SMASHED THE THUMBS UP
Are the garden staples holding the cages down sufficiently? I always staked my cages like this down. Planning on using this on my squash this year. See if I can get them to grow vertically and get them off the ground to make more room in the raised bed.
Hey there Mrs Michele, no mam, we went to using 10" tent stakes, works better, the garden staples didn't have enough bite into the soil!! Thank ya for watching mam, good to hear from ya!! Dan
Thank ya for watching Mr Justin!! Like y'all, we try to use stuff we have on hand, worked out good for us this time!! Y'all stay safe and have a good week my friend!! Dan
Great share brother Dan. I used to do something similar to this, but found the weight of the maters tipped the cages over. I now use rebar, sticking out of the ground about 8-9 feet. I tie a rope from rod to rod, to rod then tie string to the rope to the base of each plant and as the plants grow, I train them up the string. Last 4 years it has worked well. If I ever get into the garden I will show this. Getting around a foot of snow today into tomorrow. Errr. Have a blessed week.
Thank ya for watching Mr JIm and I too had a string trellis system at one time built into a raised bed, worked really well for me as well, I had some maters that where 10 feet tall lol!! Thank ya for commenting sir, have a good weekend!! Dan
Hey Dan. I've been using the concrete wire from Lowes for 30 years. Yes the roll is expensive. The ones I use now I found on a pallet at lowes which were already cut layed out and stacked flat on a pallet. Since they last so long I haven';t had to look for any any about 8 yrs. To get them to stand up I usually cut the middle out of each section on the bottom and let that 6 inch spike go down into the dirt. It has to be a pretty strong wind to blow them over. I've had two or three to blow over before but I just grab the whole bush and stand it back up. This usually happens when the tomatoes bushes are growing out of the top mid summer. By that time, the roots are large and strong enough to take a little josslin. You did a good job and good luck with dem maters.
Thank ya for watching and commenting sir and yes sir, I was shocked at the price of that remesh lol!! We're gonna save up some dineros and get a roll soon and I think I'm gonna follow suit on leaving the 6" spikes as well!! We don't get high winds over here very often but when we do, it's 60 MPH gust!! Y'all have a good safe week over there!! dan
Thank ya for watching and commenting Mr George, welcome to our community and the channel!! That's a great way to secure that cage, thank ya for sharing how ya secure your mater cages!! Have a great week!! Dan
Hey Dan, thanks for the shout out. Yes I have some tomato cages just like those. I don't have much of a problem with rabbits but the deer got in my garden last night and ate most of my tomato plants. When you get ready to store the cages just lay them on the side and stack them on top of each other. Who is the cute little girl in your video? Have a great week, Calvin and Marie
Thank y'all for watching Mr Calvin, that's Skyla's lil girl!! I think we will take your advice and store them cages like that come the end of the season!! Stay safe y'all!! Dan
In my tomato cage, I still had to use a tie of some sort to tie the plant to the cage so it didn't just droop over onto itself. Just sayin' ... Good idea for a cage!! Thanks! You all have a good one!
Thank ya for watching Mrs Deb!! We'll probably have to do the same thing but we'll definitely share what we do to curtail that come time!! Have a good week mam!! Dan
Nice move to avoid getting stabbed by that fencing. Between the two of us and a handyman who helped stretch field fencing, we’ve lost a bunch of skin and a bunch of blood 😁 We use chicken wire on the bottom of the fence surrounding our garden. Works well for us, but the pesky rabbits will go under the chicken wire unless it’s all the way to the ground everywhere. Good luck folks. Take care and stay healthy.
Thank y'all for watching!! Hopefully the rabbits won't get into the bottom of these cages, that's to be seen tho lol!! Y'all stay safe over there and have a good week!! Dan
What’s the sound of artillery BOOM BOOM, Raining Down on the enemy 😂 Nice set up brother Dan. I like your thinking there. I do have a question and I never asked before because I hate prying into other people’s business but who is your camera person and the cute little girl? I always assumed you were single and now I feel like maybe you’re not. Either way hope all is well with you and stay safe out there buddy.
Judgement from a distance!!! Thank ya for watching brother and the camera person is Skyla my girlfriend and the lil girl is Kenzi her daughter😀 We've been together for awhile now, she's just never home most of the time when I'm filming except on the weekends!! Y'all have a good weekend my friend!! Dan
Perfect timing for this video, I am also trying to figure out what to do to trellis/cage my masters! Thanks for the idea. Be safe over there and have a great week!
We do the same thing but for we use the cheap 1/2 inch conduct as stakes to hold it. and they last a long time they are about 2.50 each come in 10 foot and cut them in half
Thank ya for watching Mr James, welcome to the channel and our community!! Great idea on using conduit, I never thought of that and I have a electrical supply store that I can get it from locally!! Have a good weekend and thank ya for the tip!! Dan
Hello lilred1222, welcome to our community and the channel!! I'm not a big fan of cages but these have worked really well for us so far and we had some cucumbers growing up 2 cages we put together!! Thank ya for watching, have a good Wednesday!! Dan
Hello there Sir, Its been raining alot here every other day for some reason. it was storming this morning then it cleared up and turned sunny again! anyways, u have a beautiful and very big garden - yard. great vlog on outdoor nature! 🐢🌳🌳🌱🌱🍅🍅🍋🍊🍏
Dan, take it from an experienced Georgia tomato grower. The best tomato cages hands down are made out of concrete reinforcement wire. You need a thicker gage wire. Your cages are WAY TOO FLIMSY. I made 100 indeterminate cages 20 years ago out of concrete reinforcement mesh and they're still going strong and will for another 20 years. It's worth the $130 per roll at Lowes, because you will be handing them down to your kids.
Thank ya for watching and commenting Mr Martin, welcome to the channel and our community sir!! This will be the third time I've answered your comment lol, reckon YT doesn't want to add my comment to you. The field wire cages have worked pretty good, especially staked down BUT I did buy some remesh wire and its way stouter for sure as you have stated!! Preciate ya stopping by the channel, have a good weekend!! Dan
Great cages, Dan! I tried making hold-downs for mine from bent electric fence wire but they didn't have enough "bite". Got some metal tent stakes from Academy Outdoors and they did the trick. They've been in use for three years and are holding up fine.
Thank ya for watching brother and yes sir, we have some old tent stakes somewhere, we're gonna give them a try for sure!! Hope all is well with you and yours my friend, have a good week!! Dan
Those do work great Dan. We have a few we put out too. I use zip ties on ours but I like the clamps you use better. Less things to poke you while working in the garden. LOL Take care, stay safe and enjoy the family time! Rob
Thank ya for watching Sapper!! I don't know why I didn't think of building these sooner lol but they look like they're gonna work out good!! Y'all have a good week my brother and stay safe!! Dan
The cages works great but I found out you got to put a T post and then attach it to T post or it will fall over. Just a hint Mr Dan. Y'all have a good one!
Thank ya for watching and commenting Mr Bub!! I don't think the staples are gonna work myself but I do have a few T post laying around, I may even try some tent stakes as well!! Y'all have a good week sir!! Dan
I use to use the exact same cages for my tomato plants but you have to stake them on both sides, preferably with metal posts. The plants get quite heavy when they're loaded with tomatoes. I found wood stakes will not support the weight.
Ive been using the same hog wire cages for 30+ years. I bent some 1/2" rebar into "J" shape about 12" on the long side for cage stakes. One on ech side of the cage. Never had one fall over yet.
Thank ya for watching Mr Greg and I think I'm gonna follow suite on the rebar, I may give some tent stakes a try as well!! have a good week sir and stay safe!! Dan
Thank ya for watching and commenting Julian, welcome to our community and the channel!! Believe it or not, that field fence is pretty stout lol, I have started making these cages with steel remesh, it's even stronger!! Preciate ya stopping by the channel, have a good Tuesday!! Dan
Oh wow! Those are great! Nothing better than NOT needing to buy cages! Yes Sir!
Glad to see Ya'll doing good.
Stay safe and stay well!
Thank you for sharing how you made these cages!
Thank ya for watching and commenting mam, hopefully we won't have to buy cages for awhile lol!! have a good week and stay safe!! Dan
Sure is a good video. That's some nice tall cages. They sure will do a good job holding up your plants. have a great day and weekend.
Thank ya sir and I thank ya for watching!! We're pretty pleased with how them cages turned out, we just have a make a bunch more lol!! Take care my friend and have a good week!! Dan
Nice cages Dan. As others have commented, I think you will need something more hefty to hold them down once the tomato plants get big. Stay safe. 🤠
Thank ya for watching Mr Larry and yes sir, I have some tent stakes somewhere, we'll give them a try if not, we'll look into using some rebar to hold them cages down!! Have a good week sir, stay safe!! Dan
I love those tomato cages. I would agree that a T post, or something like it, is needed. Shalom and Blessings from Missouri!
Thank ya for watching and commenting Mrs Paula, we're gonna try some old tent stakes, the drip clips will not work for sure!! have a good Tuesday!! Dan
I made my cages like this ten years ago. I cut the last square in half and used that half to join the cage together. Still using them.
Than ya for watching and commenting Everett Watson, welcome to our community and the channel!! Dan
I have similar cages made. We gardeners just use what we have and we make it work . Great job guys 😊
😀Thank ya for watching Zule, yes mam, we try to use what we have on hand for sure!! Dan

Thank ya for watching Mrs Anna and yes mam, we do the same, we try to use things that we have on hand!! have a good week mam, stay safe!! Dan
Now that's a decent tomato cage! I think the staples won't hold when the tomato plant is larger at least not here. Great idea for sure
Thank ya for watching sir and I agree with ya on the staples, I don't think they'll hold hat cage down over here either!! I have some tent stakes that I'm gonna try and possibly some rebar!! Hope all is well with you and yours, stay safe over there!! Dan

Good job Dan, I re-purposed some myself. I put cucumbers in the some times. Trying a different way this year. You could always put a t-post inside it.
Thank ya for watching and commenting PAPA Texas, we're gonna try some old tent stakes and se how that does!! Have a good week sir, stay safe over there!! Dan
Those are great looking cages! Please bang in a good stake or post to hold them up!

Hey Dan. I've been using the concrete wire from Lowes for 30 years. Yes the roll is expensive. Yours is almost just like mine except on mine I cut the bottom so that wire pokes down all the way around and I just push it down with my foot
Thank ya for watching my friend and when we save up to get a roll of that remesh, we'll probably do the same thing!! Have a good safe week!! Dan
I'm just going to use some Lowe's bought cages. Keep the plant topped at about the 4 ft. mark. Cut the suckers off and see what happens. 🍅🍅🍅
That sounds like a good plan Mr Thomas, keeping them mater plants topped will work for sure!! Thank ya for watching sir!! Dan
Thanks for the tip Dan, I have a lot of that stuff (wire) laying around. Have a blessed week guys, Carl and Dawn

I use to use the exact same cages for my tomato plants but you have to stake them on both sides, preferably with metal posts. The plants get quite heavy when they're loaded with tomatoes. I found wood stakes will not support the weight.
I used both a cage and trellis, I grow all indeterminate tomatoes
Great DIY tomato cage ... will definitely last for a long time
Have a good evening
Thank ya for watching Mr D!! I'm not a big fan of tomato cages but these kinda grew on me lol!! Have a good week sir!! Dan
Dan
