    I haven't done any rebushing in years and now I have an action that really needs it. Thanks for a great refresher course! Awesome!

    Hi. That's a beautiful tutorial. Thank you. Can you tell me please the thickness of that felt bushing matetial (in mm) that you use and where can I get it from?

      Here is a link to where you can purchase the flange bushing cloth: www.howardpianoindustries.com/piano-flange-bushing-cloth-sheet-of-12-strips/

    Should the pins and bushings in the whippens have the same resistance as the ones for the hammer flanges? Thanks for an amazing channel!

      Hi John,
      Thanks for watching! Yes, the whippen flange pinning should be about the same resistance as the hammer flange. Please feel free to let me know if you have other questions.

    If you replace pin do you rebush it too ?

    Hello! Your videos are awesome! I am rebuilding some of the action out of a 59-60 Everett spinet piano. The part here where you say to put the center pin in to clamp the felt, I’m a little lost on. Not able to see very well how you’re doing that. Could you explain that part a little more? I used a broach on some of the hammer butt flanges that we’re sticking, and one came out.

    • @howardpianoind
      @howardpianoind  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, you simply insert the center pin using your center pin punch into, and all way through, both of the newly bushed flange holes. This is temporary. The pin helps to "size" the felt and clamp it into place. When it has dried the pin is removed, felt trimmed out of the middle of the flange, and you now re-pin the flange to the hammer shank using the final proper size pin. Hope this helps

      @@howardpianoind yes sir. Appreciate your advice. Thank you! Do you typically just use one size smaller pin than the permanent for the temporary?

    can you use cotton instead of felt?

    hey great video, what kind of adhesive would you recommend as for gluing the felt to plastic flanges?

    • @howardpianoind
      @howardpianoind  5 років тому +1

      The PVC-E Glue would work for the plastic flanges as well.

    Thank you. I find it very difficult to tear off a thread from the cloth, do you cut it first to get it started before pulling ? Or perhaps cutting would be easier ?

    • @howardpianoind
      @howardpianoind  3 роки тому

      Yes, sometimes you have to cut a little bit to get it started.

    Did you say "PVC" glue? I'd rather not deal with a glue pot, etc. I tried using a hot glue gun, but the glue cools too quickly.

    • @howardpianoind
      @howardpianoind  10 років тому +2

      The glue that I'm using is PVC-E glue which is a white water based polyvinyl glue. It's not something that you can get at your local store, but you can get it from all of the major piano supply companies including from our online store. Yes, I agree that using a gluepot isn't always convenient. For gluing flange bushings it really isn't practical anyways because of the fast dry time.

      Thanks. I just found out the same info in a piano tuning book. I'll look it up.

    Hello, is there any tool to do this job?
    I need to make a lot of bushing.
    Thank you

    How do you measure the swing tension of 3gram??

    • @howardpianoind
      @howardpianoind  3 роки тому +1

      Using the swing test isn’t an exacting measurement as it depends on the weight of the hammer as well. It just gives a general guideline.

    hi why it needs to be bushing with cloth can I just put the pin with a dab of gorilla glue on both sides ???????

    • @howardpianoind
      @howardpianoind  10 років тому +5

      The pin needs to be able to move in the flange so you can't glue the pin in. The reason for the cloth is to make it so the pin is held snugly, but still is able to rotate.

    What kind of glue is??

    • @howardpianoind
      @howardpianoind  7 років тому

      I'm using PVC-E glue for this task.

      A 2 year old piano may not need this, but it depends on the conditions the piano is kept in and how much use it gets.
