@@shloyogoldstein7043 the 2018, which was the first year of the Stinger for the U.S, missed out on a ton of safety tech upgrades that most will tell you ended up in the 2020 GT-Line, but were actually in the 2019 Premium. I would honestly see what kind of deal you can get on the 2022 & at the most, try to talk them down some on that 2018 Premium. If it was a '19, given the market right now, I'd say that was a good deal.
I agree. 300 hp is still plenty for most of us who don’t go to the track. And I love the green of this car. Death to all the gray crossovers that are everywhere nowadays!
My 2018 Stinger 2.0 has launch control. You just have to press and then hold down the traction control button and it will beep again for the stability control going off. then just brake + gas and let go. The 2.0 is rated at 5.9s 0-60 w/ launch control so this can probably get 5.5 or less easily

The GT-Line should've gotten the 7" gauge cluster screen from the GT1 & GT2 with the GT2 getting the 12.3" fully digital gauge cluster from the Sorento which would be better for both the GT-Line & GT1 & GT2 to have more screen space for the Blind Spot View Monitor
Good review. I think, however, that calling the Stinger a "sports sedan" is somewhat misleading. In fact, it's KIA's interpretation of a European GT (Grand Touring) vehicle designed to carry four passengers and their gear/luggage at high speeds for hours at a time over meticulously maintained European highways as well as negotiating twisting backroads, many of which were originally laid down by the Romans 2000 years ago. Unlike its stablemate the Genesis G70, the Stinger isn't meant to be a rival to the iconic BMW 3 series. Nor does the "GT" designation means it's a competitor to an American muscle car like the Mustang where the term "GT" (in the European sense) is especially inappropriate. The replacement of the 2.0L turbo with the corporate 2.5L turbo 4 in the GT-Line Stinger is a significant improvement in the mission of making the Stinger a true "GT." It improves the vehicle's 0-60 time, of course, but scalding straight line acceleration from a dead stop isn't the hallmark of a "grand touring" vehicle. Instead, the Stinger's less than 6 second 0-60 time is more than adequate when combined with the ability to cruise comfortably at triple digit speeds. Unfortunately, using that ability on the crumbling highways in the US is rarely available. But the 230+ lb weight advantage over the V6 twin turbo version of the Stinger is the equivalent of carrying an NFL cornerback in the back seat compared to a GT1 or GT2 Stinger. And that arguably offers significant advantages that cannot be easily overcome with the suspension and braking advantages of the upper trim vehicles. The upper trim Stingers do have the advantage of an LSD that the GT-Line lacks. But the availability of AWD in the GT-Line does more than help in inclement weather. It enables the GT-Line to put power to the pavement while limiting wheel hop and torque steer nearly as effectively as an LSD provides in the RWD version of the upper trim versions. Rumors that KIA will cease production of the Stinger with the 2022 model persist despite KIA's efforts to deny or at least ignore them. With the performance version of the EV6 coming to the US next spring it wouldn't be surprising to see KIA put all of its performance "eggs" in the electrification basket. Hopefully, however, improved sales of the Stinger GT-Line will postpone the disappearance of the vehicle.
What Kia has going on with this paint color is awesome. It's almost like a hypershift color. Is it black? No No, it is Green ha ha. I've been a fan of the Stinger since its inception and I am looking forward to see how the long distance reviews are.
Mine is exactly like this one, just one small comment: the GT line has launch control; you have to press the electronic stability control for 3 seconds to deactivate it, press on the brake until launch control ready appears and go within 4 seconds
The center screen is 10.25", not 10.3" but it is very close to being 10.30 wide. I wish they offered the best features from the GT2 trim as an optional package for the GT-Line so the people who want the features of the GT2 & want the GT-Line engine could get the best of both options for their needs. I want the GT-Line with a GT2 package so it makes it a fully-loaded car with cooled seats, a Head-Up Display, the better Nappa leather seats with thigh support, the better headlights, the 7" center display with the 360° camera system & Blind Spot View Monitor (the sideview camera popup in the center screen), & all of the other luxury & tech features at a more affordable & attainable price. I'm okay with having the base engine but I want the best tech & luxury from the GT2 trim
I'm curious, do you say 2.5t, or 2.497t? What about the 1.6t, that's actually 1.598t? The 3.3tt is actually 3.342tt Let's go to the Mustang's 5.0 v8 pre-facelift it was 4.951. Post-facelift it's now sitting at 5.035. If it's within 10% why bother correcting it? Most people don't say it's 05:38:31:xx P.M. They say it's 5:40 P.M. others say it's 5:38 P.M. Some say it's 20 minutes to 6 P.M. in this instance. But almost no one goes that specific.

I currently drive a 2020 Kia Stinger GT1 with AWD. I have it in the Snow White Pearl exterior color with the red leather interior and it is a blast to drive, especially when you stomp on the “go” pedal. I’m happy to have memory seats, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, sunroof, the larger LCD display between the speedo/tach and the HK Sound Systems which rocks. Nice job and thank you for reviewing the gt-line…A lot of us want a fun, sporty sedan for a daily but don’t want to spend more than 40k. I am considering this for my next vehicle. I also like the Sonata N-line…different vehicles for sure but both a massive bargain. Sonata is about 35K.
Yeah you know the K5 GT and the N line to me are more appealing for the price, but they are front wheel drive, but good luck getting one, I mean they have them out there I tried To find a K5 GT with gt1 package blue on saddle brown and all they had available was black interiors , and if I wanted to order it it would be seven months that’s if they got it at all, crazy car situation right now which sucks because my lease is up soon

I own the 2022 Kia Stinger GT-Line AWD version. This car is so good for the price point. I would recommend getting better tires for this car. I was not a fan of the Bridgestone Potenza's that came with the car, they are horrible especially in inclement weather. I decided to upgrade to the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus which are UHP (Ultra High Performance) All season tires. Upgrading to these tires made the car an even better drive. More overall traction, reduced road noise, better on bumps, smoother ride, more grip in inclement weather, better braking, without affecting performance. You can feel the road so much better. This car has great handling off the lot but if you want a better overall driving experience, I recommend upgrading to the DWS06 plus. For this car, they retail for about $170 per tire.
@@KobeMpthers I mean I just got the car so I haven't had much maintenance done on it besides the tire upgrade and an oil change. As for gas, I put in 93 so we all know how much gas is at the moment. So far it's not much maintenance other than the usual stuff you have to do to your car

Great Review! I totally agree with your feelings on the Stinger. I'm leasing this very model. Awesome styling catches stares and sparks up conversations everywhere I go. The proportions make it classically attractive, inside and out, and with the Sun and Sound package you get a sound system with two subs that really delivers rich deep sound. Handling dynamics add to the joy of driving it so it never feels dull or boring plus the additional horsepower/torque give it plenty of pep to get around traffic easily. I high recommend this Grand Tourer to anyone who enjoys driving and doing it in style. Leasing it makes very affordable. I thought of opting for the 6 cylinder but ultimately did not feel the additional money was worth the extra half second faster 0 to 60 time. It's quick and nimble! Besides, you don't want to speed by, you want admirers to get a good view as you cruise by. I searched the market closely and carefully and nothing is as affordable and good looking as this GT-Line Stinger is. Truly the best bang for your dollar! Every time you walk up to it, you'll smile because the Stinger stands out, in the best way, its classy from every angle and so very well proportioned. You will not be disappointed. Best not to wait, get one while you still can and get ready for the stares and conversations that will come your way!
@@user-qg2tl3jk9z My 2018 Stinger Premium lease was up so the trade in allowance it was given along with Kia lease incentives made for a sizeable down payment just over 6K. The only money out of pocket was for the first months lease payment which is a little under 400/mo. I opted for zero options offered by Kia. I drive less than 10k mi/year. I will owe just over 21k at the end of the lease but I will not keep it beyond 36 months. I feel the terms fair enough for the car I was driving off with. It's great! I really enjoy it every time I get behind the wheel. I hope this helps and best of luck to you.
Dear Kia, just add more packaging options that could be easily dealer-installed, like upgraded seats (vented+memory), wheel/tire/lsd, sound w/o sunroof, etc. Poor options is what keeps this down big time.
I'm a sedan guy and I'd be oh so happy with either the Stinger GT-Line or a VW Arteon SEL R-Line, but all I ever see on the dealers' lots here are Forte's, K5's Jetta's and Passat's. Yawn.
It’s the Google algorithms. I’m pretty sure they access the microphone and listen in addition to using browsing history. It’s been more than once that I’ve been talking about a completely random topic only to see a video recommended shortly after.
Thank you for reviewing this. Your right tho, If one drives this and then drives the K5 GT or Sonata N-Line, that DCT is a game changer. BUT, the KIA rides WAYYY smoother, it is RWD so it handles power input much better, and the Harmon Carmon blows the Bose from the GT and N-Line out of the water.. If have been driving Luxury Cars or the highest trims of other models newer than 2012+ or so, you will be much happier with the Stinger. If this is about to be the nicest car you have ever had then you will probably like the K5 GT and N-Line Sonata more.
5.0 with the fwd 2.5t is a unicorn time. The best time that I’ve seen is 5.2-5.3. The all season tires on the Sonata N-line and K5 Gt simply can’t handle the power in 1st gear.
The talk is the Stinger will be discontinued mid year. Hyundai motor group recently announced that there would be no further r&d into gas engines. Their engineers have been reassigned into EV development.
The old 2.0 could be had for 32k which meant that it was an alternative to the Camry and Accord. Now it’s out of reach for people who were stretching a little to get to 32k.
I think it's the rear door cutline. Very similar to the first gen Optima. The only design element of the Stinger I don't like, besides the fake hood vents.
That’s surprising to hear considering the rwd proportions of the Stinger are vastly different from the Optima. Other than a few similar bits of shared Kia design language, I find that they look nothing alike.
@@Cgee3 The rear door frame is the only real resemblance I see, and that only applies to the first gen Optima. I have loved the design of the Stinger ever since it was introduced. Even was seriously considering a pre-owned one until the market went insane.
Always enjoy watching you! Love the color, wish the interior was brown/tan like a previous subscriber mentioned and I wish the exhaust tips weren't fake, same with the vents.
Unlike the Netflix Cowboy Bebop adaptation, this actually a good entry. At least Yoko Kanno, the music composer, came back. Made a guitar cover video for the ending theme, The Real Folk Blues.
Yes. The 2022 has much improved ambient over previous years with more colors and brighter lighting. The 2018-2021 offers about six colors and is only visible at night.
The gauges on the GT2 look better with the 7" center display, but it really needs a 12.3" digital gauge cluster from the new Sorento. Idk why they wouldn't give the GT2 trim the fully digital gauge cluster, & move the 7" display down to the GT-Line trim
Any difference in steering feel ?. With 300lbs less weight up front I'd expect a even more nimble turn in and more compliant ride. Brake response & feel too ? ... 🤔
The 22' Stinger is a great looking sports sedan. Although, I can't figure out why The Hyundai Motor Group didn't use the 2.5 T in the G70. Why would they let a base model Stinger outperform their luxury platform sibling with less engine? That doesn't make sense to me🤔
The only thing that I can see is that Genesis didn’t want to make the base model too appealing as to poach sales from the 3.3T model. The lighter Genesis G70 with a significantly more powerful base engine would probably be plenty of power for most.
Will get this car, if it lasts past the chip-shortage. The price increase of $3K from last year's, despite the better engine and more features, is unfortunate.
The Gt-line with the sight and sound package is still a steal. The 3k price increase is probably mostly due to the MUCH more attractive LED headlights and the MUCH more powerful underrated 2.5t engine.
the Stinger's base fuel tank is so small for a grand tourer at 16 gallons while the GT has pretty mediocre mpg so i'm absolutely thrilled at this updated 2022 base model. Trades half a second 0-60 but gets 33% more range from 16x21 miles to 16x27 miles of range. And also alot cheaper and has better looking headlights for only half a second decrease and its still way faster then the TLX A-spec or RC350 or Challenger gt and other competitors. (Granted though a used GT is about as much as a new GT-Line so the GT has a better argument in that case but for me as I can afford either its not a cost thing to penny pinch at the fuel pump or go for the cheaper model, id still go for the GT-line for the benefits of the longer range utility and better daily drivability and less inconvenience of having to stop to fillup constantly for being a tad little bit slower) Now if they made the GT2 as a hybrid or at least updated the engine like they did with the GT-Line that would help alleviate the small tank without sacrificing power.
You mentioned under 40K. Is that the price of this car, with the sunroof etc? Also, what can be adjusted in custom drive mode? Finally, I thought if we go with AWD, it comes with a rear LSD on this 2.5T.
“Standard reflector optional projector”. Funny how all manufactures went from reflector to projector standard on even compact cars after decades with halogen lights, then as soon as they go to LED standard they go right back the reflectors.... so we won’t see projectors standard for years or decades again??
Man what a bad ass car. Bad Ass car because, in the past, to get engine technology like this, in a base engine (LET ALONE A RWD APPLICATION) you would have no choice but to shop in the luxury segment. Stuff like has not been available in a popular brand. When I say engine technology like this what I mean is competitive horsepower 300hp, competitive mpg at 33mpg highway that is actually underrated, then on top of that you get port injection and direct injection which combats carbon buildup which is something you get with direct injection and every manufacturer has direct injection engine not many have dual injection.
If there is no adaptive dampers or active exhaust in the 2.5T, does anyone know what can be customized in custom mode? Engine, trans, steering? I'd choose an Elantra N before this 2.5 GT-line.
There are 8 inch woofers under both front seats with the Harmon Kardon sound system. They make decent bass but lack the true deep bottom end of a dedicated subwoofer. I’ve been looking into adding a slim powered sub into my Stinger’s hatch area. Give the car a listen in person. The sound is crystal clear. There is an enhanced “on stage” audio setting that gives great 3D sound. The mids and highs get pretty loud and are enough for most people. I just wish it had more thunder.
I think pricing is the biggest reason why these don't sell. Nice cars, but Kia should have priced this competitively with the less expensive Dodge Charger instead of going after higher-end cars which the brand has never succeeded at. Kia proved it can definitely sell crossovers in this price range, but they've never had success selling sedans this expensive.

I have a 2022 GT-Line, coming from a 2018 2.0T Premium & it's damn near an entirely different car, power-wise & yes, I've driven the 3.3TT a couple of times.
I was thinking of a used 2018 premium or the 2022 gt line which one do u think I should go for?
Found a premium for 27k
@@shloyogoldstein7043 the 2018, which was the first year of the Stinger for the U.S, missed out on a ton of safety tech upgrades that most will tell you ended up in the 2020 GT-Line, but were actually in the 2019 Premium. I would honestly see what kind of deal you can get on the 2022 & at the most, try to talk them down some on that 2018 Premium. @@JustinPennito ok. Thanks so much for the advice!
What's your opinion on the 2.5t vs the 3.3t? Is the gt really that much better? Or is the 2.5t plenty?
So it doesn’t have a heated steering wheel? Seems a lil spendy to not have that feature
I rather get the GT2 Scorpion edition, I wish they would put the twin turbo V6 in the Telluride
Price gap of the two is 23k at my dealership 😂😂😂😂
Now why would they do they?
Love the scorpion!! Better wheels and a nice spoiler.
I own one of these and I absolutely love it. I recommend it to anyone considering getting one.
You own the 2.5?
You always surprise me w the vids! I was JUST considering this model for an upgrade in my TrD and boom, you drop the vid! Lol
Love the new wheels. That 2.5 turbo sounds like a great option to save money. I think the engine sounds great.
The manufacturer 0-60 is 5.2 seconds
Kia lied about 0 to 60 mph time for 2.0 .
I just bought this car but AWD and I love it!
What was the out the door price? Currently in the search for one but dealer tried to screw me good. 5k markup and 4k in pre installed add ons. They went down on the markup but wouldn’t budge on the dealer installed add ons. 50k out the door, wasn’t willing to do it.
The 2.5?
I just wish the paint quality was better.
Mine is exactly like this one, just one small comment: the GT line has launch control; you have to press the electronic stability control for 3 seconds to deactivate it, press on the brake until launch control ready appears and go within 4 seconds
Personally, I love this car! That paint job looks good too. Interesting colour.
Really? Everyone rounds up if there's a 5 at the end. Even with phone screens. Like when they're 6.67," most will say 6.7 inches. #NitPicking
The problem with the Kia Stinger isn't the car itself, but the dealership experience. Kia needs to address this.
That and the price. I wouldn't pay $45k just for the base model GT and damn sure not over $50k for the GT2.
Motortrend tested it at 5.7 0-60 and 14.1 @101.8mph which is almost as quick as my tuned civic. Pretty impressive

Yawn.
On Kia’s website they state the 2.5T will do 0-60 in 5.3 seconds but that’s using 91 or a higher octane like 93
Is the hatch rattling still an issue or was it an overblown issue to begin with?
My 4 months old with ~3K miles just has a hint of it. There's some fixes on the forums I will try if it gets worse.

Sad that Kia is making more desirable cars than Honda,Nissan and Mitsubishi
True for Mitsubishi. But for Nissan and Honda, apart from the Z and Civic Type R, you'll have to step up to their luxury brands for desirable cars.
The sport car era for Mitsubishi is dead and gone.
The Sonata N line is FWD with less HP and scoots to 60 in 5 seconds flat with launch control. 6.2 seems way off.

How would you rate the ease of entry and egress into the driver's seat?
The old 2.0 could be had for 32k which meant that it was an alternative to the Camry and Accord. Now it’s out of reach for people who were stretching a little to get to 32k.

Surprised they still make these. I’ve maybe seen 4 on the road since their debut.
Right I thought nobody bought these and Kia cancelled them after the first year or something since I never see them.
I always thought it looked too much like an Optima for being completely unrelated . They should have come up with a more unique design.
@@Cgee3
The rear door frame is the only real resemblance I see, and that only applies to the first gen Optima. I have loved the design of the Stinger ever since it was introduced. Even was seriously considering a pre-owned one until the market went insane.

Do you have any insight to how the AWD performs at the base model vs the Dynamic Torque Handling for the GT1/GT2?
Hey brother, just a quick question since you’ve tested both cars, is it quicker than the 2022 Lexus NX 350 AWD?
Does the stinger have ambient lighting?
Yes. The 2022 has much improved ambient over previous years with more colors and brighter lighting. The 2018-2021 offers about six colors and is only visible at night.
Do you think the gauges are kind of outdated at this point and kind of basic looking
The gauges on the GT2 look better with the 7" center display, but it really needs a 12.3" digital gauge cluster from the new Sorento. Idk why they wouldn't give the GT2 trim the fully digital gauge cluster, & move the 7" display down to the GT-Line trim
@@NileshR12 Because nobody buys these cars so Kia likely doesn't want to invest more than necessary.

@Cg3 perhaps. If I were personally in the market for a sports sedan, I'd pick the Stinger over the G for that reason.
it has launch control, that works better for 0 to 60
Will get this car, if it lasts past the chip-shortage.
How’s the audio system?
the Stinger's base fuel tank is so small for a grand tourer at 16 gallons while the GT has pretty mediocre mpg so i'm absolutely thrilled at this updated 2022 base model.
So the 2.5 stinger is faster than the is350?
Holy color saturation. Honestly thought I was in the beginning stages of optic neuropathy
This one does come with launch control just like the GT
I am beyond impressed that KIA has a sports sedan that can actually compete against the German big shots.
There is no truth in your claim unless you are referring to VW’s.
Actually with all those add ons, like the sunroof and sound. it’s over 40k.
If there is no adaptive dampers or active exhaust in the 2.5T, does anyone know what can be customized in custom mode? Engine, trans, steering? I'd choose an Elantra N before this 2.5 GT-line.
Does the Sun & Sound package include a subwoofer?
There are 8 inch woofers under both front seats with the Harmon Kardon sound system.
They make decent bass but lack the true deep bottom end of a dedicated subwoofer. I’ve been looking into adding a slim powered sub into my Stinger’s hatch area.
Give the car a listen in person. The sound is crystal clear. There is an enhanced “on stage” audio setting that gives great 3D sound.
The mids and highs get pretty loud and are enough for most people. I just wish it had more thunder.
@@Cgee3 Good info, thanks.
This is AWD loaded with the base engine for 42k that to me seems about where the V6 Charger is. The TTV6 is proved where the 5.7 hemi is.
