1983. I was a second engineer in 90000ton tanker. Now. the engine room is clean and more high tech stuff. I am retired now. but I miss that time a lot. marine engineer life is my life. Good job.
Huge respect to you sir, i've always admired Engineers' skills and i believe it is much more difficult than Deck side.
KS Yu hi sir how can I get job there
The best way is to go to a school for the maritime industry and get your USCG license in either deck or engines. The you can sail commercially.
KS Yu hey mate I’m going to study marine engineering at university and was wondering if there is much money in marine engineering?
God bless you.
As always a high quality video. Keep the good work up!
Montiro
This is bloody lovely. Exceptional quality. I am sailing next month on my first ever journey as a cadet. For a person like me, your videos are priceless. Thank you!
Alex Black i feel the same.. priceless and as a cadet we need more videos like this
Agreed!
Alexander Black wow typically I don’t watch ships but this is outstanding 👍👍 subscribed
Am i only one whos cadet study is pending still love to watch this
By the way which company sponsored you?
I've never seen anything more beautiful in my life.
Nice video again! I watch them all from the first to the last minute!
Here another nice mega ship engine tour ---> ua-cam.com/video/4vwnF1l45bc/v-deo.html
Thanks so much for content like this! It takes the mystique out of giant ships!
This is amazing, thanks for the video. I am almost 50 and still love the beauty of engineering.
so good..so strong fantastic engine!!..3 auxuliary engine..1 main engine..air reservoir engine starting..control room..thanks chief enginer!!..
I like your videography style. I appreciate the effort that must go into making your videos.
True
To earn money effort has to be put
I hate it it gave me a headache. Im just tryna look at the engine and he keeps switching fucking slides every 3 seconds
Casey's Neistat style is always the best ))
+Австралия NT Darwin сity wes anderson style :)
Well put together video, a bit humour injected to make it appealing. Good introduction to a career at sea.
I've had more years at sea ( engineer officer) than I care to remember.
For a career for life chose navigation. For a career where you skills are sought after ashore go engineering, There will always be work for you and you get paid to see the world!
Continue with the videos they make excellent viewing.
That ship is freaking huge.
Thanks brother. I’m just going to start my career as a marine engineer .Your information is so good ❤️
No music please. We want to hear those engines. Engines make the music.
I love your videos and the music as well.
awesome video! :) hard find the right shot to capture scale sometimes, but this is great - and funny!
Awesome video! The music and editing are superb
I love this background music!!!
Wow you are so well understand of every operation and safety standard on the ship even the machine you are definitely a good crew on ship, very nice Thumbs up for you 👍, nice video btw Thanks for sharing God bless you
subscribed, because of your editing skills.... makes an entertaining video ! cant wait for more!
I really liked your transitions. Keep it up!!!
Thanks for the tour of the engine.
As an amateur astronomer I really love the way you captured the sky at the end of the video.
Nice video again! Man, you're so talented when it comes to videography, and your editing skills are amazing! Keep it upp
Masterly crafted v-blog
Great job Jeff, thanks for the videos.
Casey Neistat style video editing, very cool work!
just wonderful
Your vlogs are awesome 👆👍👍👍👍👍👍
Perfect, thank you and have a good trip
I don't know how I reach to your channel but really I liked every video .. keep going bro
Fantastic video. Congratulations. Very close to me: I was a portuguese engine officer of de Merchant Marine.
a very good video, you show many things about the navigation bridge. clarifies some details that I did not have present or I did not know. but I think you need to talk about some equipment on the bridge
it feels like The Shinning with lots of noises, maybe you should do a low budget horror film inside her!
I like the music. Reminds me of the music in this video.
Very informative! I am interviewing for ACOE tomorrow and I wanted to see what the engine room looked like. Your a comical guy! Good video, loved the hand puppet looking out of the hatch....
Thank you for the Great video
Very interesting and awesome editing! I look forward toward your next video.
intriguing and fun video
Congratulations! You've just got one subscriber
Excellent Video
Excellent video
Amazzing video ... Big advantge ..thanks alot
Beautiful!
Absolutely fascinating!
Quality video.
good video. thanks for the tour!
editing is superb! i use this vid in my class.
Thanks Jeff for a clip from the titanic movie
As always and excellent video. There is one thing though in the commentary; if the ship's engine has 12 cyclinders; is not a v12 but an inline 12.
Yeh
I love your music
when was the ship constructed? (I'm addicted to your videos. THANK YOU for making them)
0:52 Relatable 😂
I thought airplane engines were massive . I mean how long does it even take to assemble these intricate machines ? Like how many people does it take ?! Who lays out the blueprint ? So complex
Jeff, this is a an awesome video. It's informative and the quality of the videography is superb! thanks so much for making this. If you have the time and inclination, it would be super cool to do individual videos for each system (i.e. power generation, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, etc.). there is so much fascinating stuff going on in the engine room, it would be amazing to be able to learn more - and your video style would it that more fun and informative. anyway, keep up the great work. You just earned another subscriber. Thanks!
So why double door the entrance to the engine room? I noticed the heat insulation in the "door room" which leads me to think that it is there either as an emergency contingency in case the engine blows or something and/or to keep the heat from the engine's normal operation out of the crew space. I also want to ask, what does the primary engine run off of (if it isn't diesel) and what the fuel consumption looks like for such a beast. I am more used to nuclear reactors that are super efficient and operate by themselves for decades without needing to be refueled
Nice video job.
how long until shipping is fully electric and the bottom of the hull is lined with batteries .. imagine how clean and quiet ships would be
I don’t think battery technology is even close to being able to get this ship where it needs to go
Very nice, man! :)
More explanation of the systems and controls would be good.
Thanks.
Cool video man. Had fun :D
Our family used to take the car ferry to Victoria BC, and when I was a young lad, when we were walking from the car to the restaurant on the ferry I would walk by a door to the engine room. Heat billowing out, guys talking, tool sounds, and I thought when I grow up, I want to work in the engine room of a huge ship. Sadly that never came true, but I am a mechanic that works on much smaller things...cars! Thanks for the excellent video!
Nice video need more of it i will soon earn my degree as a marine engineering and i hp to sail as soon as possible
Great vid, cheers for sharing
hi, I am a first year Maritiem Officier student from the Netherlands. after 4 years I have learned about navigation and engine I can choose between both. What made you choose for navigation instead of the engine room?
the noise. I know i wont be able to handle the constant loud engine sound for 8 hours per day.
Navigation i get to stare out the window and day dream and get paid....
thanks for the quick reaction. hmm, some of my colleague students are telling me the engine room can have more challenges compared to a more quieter bridge job
definitely
Definitely go for Navigation side!
Engineers have mor challenges, that's where the rubber meets the road. Remember that engineers are responsible for ALL ships systems, not just the motors and electrical supply, so you're all over the place. Plus the oppoertunities for advancement are better in engineering, first engineer is actually the secong most senior officer on a ship, with the PAY $$$ that goes with that.
Incredibly well done. Thank you. My son was excited to learn about the engine and I was excited to watch the great video style. We will be back for more!
I have a question.... Can you change a piston on the main engine without stopping it. I have heard that one of the cylinders can be isolated while the engine is running. Can you explain how this is done?
I wanted to give a dislike, because you did a DAB, but i really like your videos, so it evens out. Keep going!
what's a DAB?
Tiggy whats wrong with a dab?
Tiggy ah that dab was barely anything, i’d say the rest of the video really forgives the dab
@@earlkentsucalit3301 everything
It was very cringe
How many generators Are necessary for the right functioning of the Shaft? and How many M W will can Develop inside it?
hey I know that there is equipment that involves the communication between the bridge and the engine room, like the telegraph, but how do you make sure that all the devices that need a direct connection between those e two departments are showing the correct information, do we need to be in constant communication with the personnel in the engine control room (like the one you showed) or there’s a backup equipment that may show the errors found in the original? Greetings from Venezuela
Great tour of this awesome engine room, but I think your engine is a straight 12, not a V 12.
It's like getting shrunk, and walking around your engine.
You do not have a video mentioning a little more of the auxiliary machinery?
Great video! Hey Jeff, can the engine be controlled directly from the bridge or is there an engine Telegraph like in old ships, such that someone in the bridge can give a command but a person in the engineering space has to actually control the throttle.
I've worked on these ships before, my company made the main drives for some of them. Show the gearboxes please.
Dear JeffHK My name is kyriaki Lalousi and I am a member of the shippin development team.On behalf of our team I would be grateful if you could join our network at www.shippin.com . Thank you in advance
Do you edit your video on ur laptop?? and if not how you take you own PC?
+Vedant Bharadwaj i have a mini itx computer, which is really a laptop size PC. However... i do regret not buying a laptop, for editing ud want a good graphics card like gaming laptops
Ohh but your videos are always good😘😘 just love it
JeffHK I think you could buy a better graphics card for your PC, being an ITX it likely has pci express ports.
When Upgrading my mini ATX system I had to get a bigger Case which also came with a better power supply, total cost of 40€, then I could put in full size graphics cards. In general, getting a decent GPU in a PC is much easier than getting it in a notebook. The notebooks all advertise with fancy top graphics cards, but in most cases you can't use them at their full capacity.
The best maritime related channel
This is what I was looking for
I'm styding to be a chief engineer and this helps to me
Wonderful job!
Greetings from Peru!!!
I have seen ships in karachi but now like this huge....
Some of these sailors would not even know how to start up the USS Missouri's BB 63 engines
Brilliant video and tour - had a good laugh at the "Engineers can work their magic from here" part.
epic! I remember I asked you for this video! great thanks very much! btw which movie is the first scene from ?
+Apostolos Veltsin the old style ER, titanic lol
JeffHK oh haha didn't remember that scene at all
The Titanic engine room scene was filmed on the Liberty Ship SS Jeremiah O'Brian that is in San Francisco. They go out to sea once or twice a year on tourist trips.
Those diesel generator, it can generate power to a small city.
I never seen a ship's engine room like this before.
The images scroll past way to quickly.
I understand that much of the operations are automated and a crew of 20 or so is working on the ship, but in case of emergency what's the absolute least amount of manpower needed to operate the engine? I guess it's not started and ran by the turn of a key and a steering wheel :).
+SirArghPirate chief engineer plus two other engineer
and two oiler, so 5 people
JeffHK So most of the crew are simply there to cover 24x7 operation (4 or 5 shifts of 5 to 6 crew with days of or 3 shifts of 8 to 9 crews working 7 days/week).
Hi Jeff from Russia )) Could you tell me please, did u graduated from Marine academy or just Marine college ???
Where's the fuel tank?
Cheers from Indonesia
5:08 This ship must have been built after 2016 since it is having 2 means of emergency escape.
the other one sleeping..... :D
80,000 HP making 24 Knts?? Is that first gear?? lol
Hey buddy! Serious question! I was thinking of joining the navy as a merchant marine. Thing is... would the experience in the NAVY be enough for the private sector?? Should I try to go to school during my enlistment... what are you thoughts....?
Have been watching your videos from couple of weeks as I'm appearing for Shipping corporation entrance exam for training of marine engineer. Basically I'm mechanical engineer. Well I have couple of questions. Do you ever regret choosing Marine life? How long you're gonna work in water? What about family after marriage? And are sailors allowed to carry camera, mobile phones with them? Because your video seems to be perfectly snapped by DSLR and editing is supercool!
Thank you man for good video! You are funny and i'm sure that you are good seaman. Good luck, see you at sea)
Great video again! I'm going to have to try some of this video making when i get back on board but I'm too lazy (I'm a 2nd engineer lol)
take care out there jeff and crew :) .ty for videos very interesting.keep em coming
