it's somehow relaxing and inspiring at the same time :D
Dude when are you going to make the jump to blender? With, eevee, and grease pencil im sure you'll love it.
would love to see how those characters look like with grease pencil lineart that is currently in 2.93a
Your work is enthralling... Loveth thine style for sure... Another great video...
When will the trailer or the film releasing
There is just something so satisfying about the look. I don't know what to do with the feeling, like I want to eat it or something...
Which Software Did you Use In this Video For 3D Character Making,
And I love you Animation
hey olof, good one;
but i have a question to be asked...
1. How did you color a whole 3d animated video inside cinema 4d.
I like how both characters walk differently, it really shows their personalities.
I personally think the approach works and it doesn't take the life away from the story you're trying to tell. I'm making my own animated project as well, and am considering using 3D not as a base for my characters, but more for the backgrounds.
Your characters walks in 3D are very good! That, to me, is one of the hardest thing to do and you have accomplished a real sense of weight even in a long shot. I think you might think like I do when making animations... you want to do a good job and get them them done in timely fashion. Being only one person, that can mean finding more efficient ways to get things done. It’s about making the film you want. How you get there is up to you, your talents and what tools you have available.
These were actually grabbed and altered from Mixamo so I will not take credit for the walk cycles here.
@@OlofStorm another good case of using the tools available, though!
I've been itching for the day I get my PC to do such things.. while i'd completed my degree, we were given such powerful tools to learn and create animation. I'd stay in the faculty so frequently that I had genuinely enjoyed making personal projects... living in there 😂 Now that its over I'm counting the days, absorbing what i can. Much thanks Olof
Great video as always! I’ve been wanting to combine 2D and 3D recently so this came at a great time!
Nice! That's great!
Wow, as an animation student, I have huge respect for you🧡🧡🧡🧡✨
I like your all videos bro... you are amazing😘
You have amazing skill👍
Keep it up.....
Thanks!
Heyy i search an animator for my new music clip are u ok to work w me ?
I just have to say, your technique is honestly the methodology I like most and want to use for my own projects. It's the perfect balance between 3d & 2d IMO
Thanks! :)
You are my hero) Thank
Nothing to say but insane... ✌✌
You really are an innovator and master of your field, it's very inspiring. Keep it up
great stuff mate!!!
Ok, i notice you use actual flat objects (planes) for the character front and side @ 1:35 .
Instead of going into viewport-options and setting the image to the background of the viewport itself.
Why is that exactly? Is there an advantage or just preference?
Yeah can be done both ways. No real reason
@@OlofStorm Ahaha i see, thanks :D And amazing work as always. 👌
Can you do a step by step tutorial of your process from c4d to Photoshop
Got some more videos about this on my Patreon.
I love your videos!
Stunning
you are amazing
You painted a 3d rendered picture in photoshop, but how in 3d software your paint is there.. you say its projection mapping?.. can u please make a specific tutorial on this topic.... and can we do it in blender..? Pls help anyone or Olof ..
Your method is so cool. When will this short film come out?
Thanks! Time will tell haha
BRO my teacher said flash have more used in industry level PHOTOSHOP is not good for animation. Why you use photoshop?. Why not flash?
I also dont like flash its very bad lines and so much big interface. What you think bro plz replay
You just answered it yourself. Use the software that allow you to do what you want.
@@OlofStorm thankx for replay i got you bro

Me: I can watch it all day I love it ❤️ 😍
WE LOVE YOU OLOF STORM 💙❤️
Combining 2D and 3D is something that has fascinated me for years. Your channel really is a goldmine. But also, I think studio ufotable has probably the pinnacle of this kinda stuff, lots of cool things in behind the scenes footage.
Can you make a 3d animation movie for me.
How much you charge for a 10 minutes ShortFilm.?
EEEEYYYYY 200K!!! LEETS GOOOO 🥳🥳
Hi Olof,
I have been following your progress while making this short for a while now. I think what you are doing is incredible and so that makes it even harder for me to say what I want to say... Which is: I think you are completely missing the mark on your color design. The pallet you are using to ink your fantastic background lack the imagination, the sense of wonder and adventure that your drawings and compositions have. You might want to spend a bit more time thinking about the atmosphere you want to give each scene and how color can help you to punctuate that message.
I hope you don't take it the wrong way. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to this short film! :)
Hello sir it's me your insta friend Raghavendra it looks like Ghibli movie scene it's amazing 😍
Hey man, amazing content and new subscriber. I started watching with your live action to animation video and I really want to learn but I can’t really find many videos on UA-cam that will teach me a lot about it. I know absolutely nothing about animation and I’m cool with starting from scratch, can you recommend any online courses that’ll help me?
seeing a lot of time saving techniques with your ideas truly marvelous way of workflow
please your configuration please ?? rtx or gtx and wich one
Sir , could please tell me a road map that how to start with animation and reach a stage where I could make animation like you.....
This would help out if you answer to this !!!
Hey can we animate or keyframe using the pen tool in photoshop?
Please answer this question ❤️🙏

I can see that I seriously need to learn how to do 3d staging with programs you are using in these clips! It would Really help my storyboarding a great deal!!
Try out Blender. It’s free and their grease pencil is really good.

OMG, it's Amazing please share with me what's the budget build on PC that able to create 3D characters in Cinema 4D? Thank You.
As long as you are able to run C4D on your machine you can make characters. Not intensive on your system at all.
I love you man. Keep it up!
I love your animations

Is it possible for me to draw Animation with a screenless graphics tablet ??
Yeah definitely! I didnt use a screen tablet until a few years into my career.
@@OlofStorm phew!! Thanks for the information!! I'll be trying my best to animate like you mate!!
@@OlofStorm umm btw I wanna know like was there any problems with drawing accuracies like since it's screenless?
@@monkeydgoofy8074 it takes a bit to get used to, but there are many artists that use those only.

Very useful vid. I'm beginning production of an animated music video and this is spot on. Thank you !
show us a uv maping using photoshop to c4d
Got a video about that on my Pateron
My gosh, I love your work, it's soo useful for me too. Your one of the only people who use both 2D and 3D in a convincing way. Thank you for the videos.
Bro. Your making me more and more excited for your film. How far along are you? I know animation takes forever and just film making in general takes forever, but every time I see a new shot I get more excited to see the full product.
I like 2D animation but my drawings can look inconsistent at times especially in perspective and proportions. The 3D approach really eases my workflow.
You should have a go with ebsynth, especially for those slow 3D bits. It will give let you use one drawn frame and overlap and match the motion underneath.
it's AMAZING to see your animation process
Hey olaf, I'm starting to learn to model in 3D and I really liked the results you get with your workflow. when I try to do something on my own, I don’t have such great results, and that’s part of the beginning of learning, right. But to reach these results, how long have you been studying and practicing ?
Awesome stuff! im a big fan of your work. Just curious, how long did it take you to model and rig up one character?
You animate it in photoshop? Mad lad, that's amazing
I really want to see the film after seeing this. It looks so gooooood!!
I've been thinking for a while about how to implement 3D animation, while still maintaining the style and detail of 2D.
You mentioned sometimes, that you completely render the model and camera movement, then take that video file and layer brush strokes on top in photoshop; but other times you paint textures directly onto the 3D scene itself, and you are able to move the camera around after that painting texture is done. It seems that this second technique looks great for environmental work, but I am curious how it can be applied to characters.
Into the Spiderverse used a similar technique when they added brush strokes onto characters faces to stylize them like a comic, as well as add more detail without hitting that "uncanny valley" effect. I have no idea if they put these textures onto the models themselves, or after the scene is baked. Do you think there is a downside to mapping textures directly onto the character models, when compared to baking the model scene and photoshopping frames on top of the video?
I am just learning about animation, and I'm trying to find techniques to animate more efficiently. I love the look of the "almost unshaded" 3D models to simulate a 2D effect, and it seems much more intuitive to me. Do you recommend any tools to make this process easier?
Thank you for the help; these videos have been great.
So for the environments, as you say I sometimes render 1 frame and paint on top of it and then project it back to be able to move the camera. Here I still sometimes need to export certain bits separately and make sure things that overlap doesn't look weird etc. For some shots I render the characters in 3d just as a underlying reference and then draw my frames ontop. The 3d characters themselves I just texture with very basic colours so they look coloured traditionally. If I were to use the rendered 3d characters in the shot I sometimes light them in a separate pass with a super bright distance light to get a basic light/shadow side. Got videos on my Pateron about this if you are interested.
what do you do to keep up your lifestyle like with money I know you have ways of doing it through these videos but is that your only way of generating revenue or do you take up jobs for other shows/ projects or do you have a regular part time job to help pay for the essentials im only wondering cause as a video editor coming out of college it might help enlighten me a bit since i want to be able to create my own projects like you and be able to stay financially free while doing so. I'm also looking into stocks and other forms of that to help me out and was also wondering if that's something you got into
I have been working for +10 years in the ad industry as an animator so I have clients I do freelance work for as my main source of income. UA-cam and Patreon pays a bit, but it's currently not my main job.
@@OlofStorm Oh damn I’m just getting started now in doing freelance work atm I’m only getting paid about 1000 in total to work on any kind of video Ik it’s not ideal and I should set up a more smarter way of deciding how much my pay rate would be for a project but what’s your average pay rate for a project and what kind of decisions do you make in determining that price if you don’t mind me asking I’m pretty much a generalist and do things like vfx in after effects, motion graphics as well as cgi vfx, modeling and animation it’s kinda hard to decipher what my pay would be especially if I have a project that makes me work in all mediums
@@OlofStorm I’m mainly asking you cause you work in multiple different forms and have experience in other fields then just animation it looks like and your view would seriously help me out
@@JoshuaRandyBuono this will probably vary a lot based on both location of your clients and what type of projects and clients you work with so its always hard to say. Often better to charge dayrate than fixed project rate. But then you will have to work with your client to figure out an estimate to start with etc.
@@OlofStorm Thanks that makes sense I’m definitely gonna keep that in mind I appreciate the advice and you taking the time out of your day to respond I know you’re busy so thanks a lot !!!!💕
Toon shaders is the most helpful thing while using cinema 4d. Check out toon shaders which will blend with your 2d animations.
As I said in the video I find toon shaders to land in a place more in line with 3d than 2d which I am not trying to go for. I want just a slight hint of 3d but not overly milk it.
@@OlofStorm I wanted to talk about octane shaders. Check that it's awesome.
Love your animation content, did you create the character references yourself?
Thanks! Yes I make everything myself :)
@@OlofStorm Ah. And they’re not available for tutorials, right?
@@roeejo4d764 what do you mean?
@@OlofStorm Never mind, I thought the references can be used for practicing the tutorial :)
@@roeejo4d764 oh I see, no well in the end of the day its my work, so best not copy, but take the information and apply to your own work 👍
Dude! once you are done this film, you gotta dive into Blender's Grease pencil. Your entire workflow can be done in 1 program. Plus since drawing layers are 3d objects you can animate it's 3d translation, while still drawing your 2d in a smooth traditional way. Blender Is quickly becoming the Best 2d animation app on the market. And it's Free!
I think its very interesting but those gentle camera pans have no influence on the story. Most likely people spent too much time on those things and the story becomes 08/15.
I know its a compromise, but I think it should be no compromise, if the story is not good no fancy camera pans or 3d to 2d can rescue it. It becomes all a blur and nothing stands up anymore. While everyone goes back and watches heidi.
Well one can have a good story and give it a nice look with some good cinematography and camera work. Just because one focuses on these things doesn't mean the story is disregarded. Why do you see it as a compromise?
