    Thanks for the great videos, they've really helped me along in painting my house over the past few weeks (slowly but surely). One question regarding base boards. Ive painted the ceiling's first (rolled them), and now am going to do the trim,baseboards, doors (spray with graco airless sprayer X5). My baseboads are mounted down to the slab of the foundation, and so hte carpet covers up about a 1/2 inch of the base board. Do you ever run into this situation? How do you address it if you do?

    Chris, thanks for the great videos. Question: I'm spraying a semi-gloss on my trim soon... very soon. and will be rolling/cutting in the walls...with an eggshell. will the overspray of the semigloss show through near the trim or have a different sheen? what should I do to MAKE sure that spraying the trim with semigloss doesn't hose me over on the look of the wall? Thanks for the help.

    Hi. Nice videos Thanks. I wonder, it looks like you are missing some areas, like on top of the doorway trim. Are you brush painting some spots first, or you just leave them? I realize it won't be seen, but just wondering your thoughts. Thanks.

    Were you spraying a latex or oil based trim color? If you were going to use an oil-based trim color, would you have masked the walls prior to spraying? When using oil-based paint for trim, do you paint the latex wall color before or after the trim color?

    Chris, I want to spray paint my interior staircase balusters, wood door jamb's and baseboards that have a light gloss finish from when they were originally stained. My plan is to spray a Sherwin Williams Premium Wall & Wood Primer and then spray a S-W satin finish coat. My concern is, can I expect the tape / masking applied to and around the oak pre-finished flooring to hold up for both spray coatings over 2 days avoiding any bridging and bleeding?
    Please advise. Thanks from Fremont, NH

    I have primed my trim in my new home with one coat a SW oil based primer, now I am hanging it and filling nail holes/caulking. I put one coat of paint on the walls first(mainly so my wife could decide if the colors would be correct). I was going to spray ProClassic, thinking 1 light coat, then lightly scuff and remove any imperfections, then 1 medium heavy coat. Do I need to worry about the overspray on the walls before I put my last paint coat on? Should I use something other than ProClassic? I come from a body shop background so I'm more comfortable spraying than brushing/rolling.

    Hey Chris. Love all your videos and just don't know where you find the time to be able to do all the things you do with UA-cam but 10/10 to you. I just had to download every single video and watch them many times over. You're a true craftsman. Can you please tell me what causes paint to 'crackle/ craze'? Is it spraying a flat over gloss, spraying gloss over flat, or something else? I'm fixing up an old house and it has lots of both paints, including some gloss walls (yuck) :-). Regards... Scott (Downunder)

    • @The_Handyman_Can
      @The_Handyman_Can 9 років тому

      ***** Okay thanks for that. So when you're doing your usual spraying of trims, you're always doing maybe a satin on the walls when the walls aren't taped. I just thought you were putting flat on the walls over the gloss trim overspray, so was wondering about the crackle. Does this mean if I use flat and need to prime, I just prime the small areas of overspray on the wall or does the whole wall also need to be primed to stay even? ps, I've tried to give you a 5 star rating several times and it doesn't seem to register, not sure what I'm doing wrong but will keep trying.

    Hi Chris, thanks for a great lot of videos, very helpful! I've already started liking them as I watch ;-)
    I've been painting some pre-primed doors with a new RACX212 tip and Dulux Aquanamel Gloss. I've been having some problems... First with the spray pattern feathering/tailing, even at full pressure. Then I thinned the paint until I got a solid spray pattern, once I did this I started having issues with runs vs coverage. I found I had to have very light coats to avoid runs. I notice the coverage you are getting in one coat is much better. I'm using the same gun technique that has been successful using thicker paints with bigger tips.
    Will changing to a 310 tip solve these issues? Or is there something else I should do differently?

    • @AnthonyTawse
      @AnthonyTawse 8 років тому

      +The Idaho Painter Thanks :-) I switched over to the black RAC5 tip that came with the spray pump (515 I think - the number has rubbed off) with no paint thinning and got a great result!
      I'll check out your online store to see if you sell those door stand things and ship to Australia? I tried to buy them at several local paint and hardware stores here in Newcastle, Australia, but they had never heard of them, so I resorted to buying a few simple angle brackets, but I can see the things you had would be better...
      Thanks again :-)

  • @allen52965

    I noticed that you didn't have any cover around the door frame to avoid painting the same paint on the walls. I assume that you are going to use a different paint on the wall and that you will cover the door frame once you start spraying on the wall, am I correct.
    Also, you don't have any problem with getting spray paint around the frames of the windows because your cover is only about a foot wide. Is the technique on keeping the pressure low, or it's a skill you developed over the years?

  • @CharlesBudd
    @CharlesBudd 8 років тому

    The windowsill bit was very interesting to me. Firstly you sprayed over it quite a few times. Was that because it's flat it won't run, and you wanted a good load of paint to be able to level off and give a really smooth finish. And secondly you removed the masking - isn't there a risk of crud falling onto the freshly sprayed sill by doing that? Why not wait until the paint is dry? Not a criticism, just intrigued! Cheers Chris.

    First off, do you use a 517 tip on that small trim all the time? Along with how do you not get runs? Because that's a lot of product you're putting out, especially as close as you're holding the housing to the trim. I literally use a 517 on spraying my ceilings, simply because the paint won't move... I did pick up the angled tip for the baseboards but a 517 seems a little much for that small trim. I normally use a rac 413 for trim that's double the size.

    He dusted off the window sill so the paint would lay thick and smooth. You know look like glass. Had he done the window sill first and it started to dry then while he was doing the baseboards their would be Fallout at some point on the window sill giving it a rough feel. But I think it's silly that you've been painting for however many years and don't know this unless you never run a sprayer.

    Hey paint, I have been spraying proclassic latex using FFT 310. Clean sprayer, woodwork primed, sanded, cleaned. Have been very thorough with prep work. The coat looks perfect then it happens. "Pinholes" gradually appear everywhere. Tips, comments?

      +The Idaho Painter, I didn't use it for a month after it was shaken at the store. I stirred it with a stick before beginning spraying. Sometimes flushing the line back info the can, which turns the paint foamy in the can! Could be a problem but the pinholes have showed up consistently. It is a home project so, sometimes it sits a couple days before I get back to it. The foam goes away, I stir and spray. Still pinholes! Is it to do with the latex? SW said use floetrol, that didn't help either.

    Using paint thinner. Its a pain in the butt in a big way. Guaranteed you will only do it ONCE. If using stain or other oil based paint, use a small compressor or electric driven pot painter instead of a hose fed electric sprayer. Easier to clean by far and will justify the frequent refils.
