1st living dummy is definitely an overated story, but it is one of the most iconic cover arts in the Goosebumps world period. Living Dummy 2 was much, much better. I've heard nothing but good things from people about Jellyjam. This is the only video I have seen where it was rated low. 😅 It's extremely eerie. I try to imagine being in an actual situation when reading a Goosebumps book, and that would be horrible and creepy as all hell to be stuck in that situation.
@@goosebumpsaussiefan650 Hi Bjorn! The cover art for the dummy books are awesome, if I ever make a favorite covers list a couple of them are bound to be on it. Dummy 2 I agree is far better than the first one and I’d say the same goes for dummy 3 lol. As far as Jellyjam goes-this is what I mean though lol, you and I have never seen anything negative, but to me the story is just quite bland in the long run with few things that’d make me want to revisit it besides maybe King Jellyjam who is a very cool villain. And yeah I agree the book is pretty creepy and maybe I should do what you do while reading goosebumps books to see if they will improve my opinions. Have a good day!
First I have to say I was glad to see none of my favorites were on the list lmao, but I will say that I am surprised to see some of these titles here. Not that I don't respect your opinions of course and as I said pretty much none of the books here are in my top 10 but I really do love most of the books you talked about. Specifically surprising to me was Camp Jellyjam and the first Dummy book both of which I love, even though my fav dummy book is the third one because of the whole dynamic of Slappy tearing this family apart. But the first Dummy book I read recently and I loved it so much I couldn't put it down the sister rivalry dynamic was great and the climax was honestly disturbing with Mr Wood trying to kill their dog. As for Camp JellyJam I haven't read it recently but I read it a few years ago and I remember loving it, the whole mystery of the camp and campers disappearing. Regarding One Day at Horrorland imma be honest I really disagree. I think the main horror of the story is the rides and not really necessarily the Horrors themselves, and I love how it's a testament to Stine's imagination with the honestly creepy rides and ideas, so I really love it but I agree that there are a few issues I have with it especially wanting it to be fully horror without the humour, which is why it's not in my top 10 all the ones there are only ones that are 100% horror and no humour. not to shame anyone who likes the humorous ones they are just not my taste. About Calling All Creeps, I liked it and I even loved a few aspects of it but overall I thought it was a bit of a wasted opportunity for something truly amazing if only Stine had some more time and maybe make it a bit longer, but to be honest I dont really see many people in the community talking about it as one of their favourites. Same thing with the Hall of Horrors books, I never really saw people talking about them as standouts but maybe I am just out of the loop lmao I don't use reddit. I haven't read the Hall of Horrors books yet so I can't really comment in that regard but I do plan to read them soon. I do agree that Revenge of the Living Dummy is way overrated, and didn't innovate on the Dummy formula. Why Dummy 3 is my fav is because it did the Dummy formula best imo not necessarily because it innovated on it but just did it the best, but Revenge is nothing special there are a million other and better Dummy books out there, it's only worth reading for the Horrorland stroyline. The rest of the books you talked about I will be honest I haven't read in what is probably 14 years at this point, Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes and Curse of Camp Cold Lake specifically, but from what I do remember not liking Cold Lake's last third where I think it dropped the ball pretty hard. I remember loving the setup and the concept and being really disappointed with the payoff again like with Calling All Creeps I feel like we could have gotten a masterpiece if Stine had more time. As with Lawn Gnomes I remember enjoying it for what it was but I can't really remember anything from it so I can't really say if I would enjoy it now, though I plan to get to the Original 62 soon as well, at least the ones I have not read in ages so about half of them. Lastly I think it's worth mentioning in case you didn't know the "Tales to Give You Goosebumps" books were all written by ghostwriters it's been pretty much confirmed which is very obvious when you read them because they read NOTHING like Stine's prose like AT ALL which is why I never liked them, and never liked the Give Yourself books for the same reason I thought they were written VERY badly and were tedious and boring I didn't even like ONE and I tried reading at least 20 of those Give Yourself books. Anyway that's it for my essay lol, loved the video! sorry for rambling for so long edit: I know it's probably only me and Michael Goosebumps Fan but i LOVE You Can't Scare Me, I love the entire urban legend feel of it in the background I love the gang it really hits my spot with Goosebumps and IMO it's overHATED but I can understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. My favourite Goosebumps books of all time all take place in familiar, everyday environments like the suburban houses neighbourhoods and school, I LOVE those that take place there and if a Goosebumps book takes the route of taking you to a remote place on an adventure like Legend of the Lost Legend or How I Got My Shrunken Head, those don't feel like Goosebumps to me AT ALL. Even ones people really love like Vampire Breath don't feel like Goosebumps to me because of the setting.
