I’m glad I’m not the only one. This song has a very strong emotional attachment to me. I feel like This song is an amazing cover. You can feel the emotions in the vocals
I keep this song in my everyday mix to play throughout the year to remind myself to stay humble and scream out in God's LOVE. I am Grateful 🙏 #ChristianMetalHead
This is an amazing cover. You can feel the emotion in the vocals. I listen to this song only a few times a year so it doesn’t get old. But it holds a very strong emotional attachment to me. I will definitely show this song to as many people as I can
These guys are picking up some serious steam. A short, but successful stint on Warped '14, and the perfection that is Slave To Nothing, my boys are on their way to the TOP.
does anyone else notice how loud it gets towards the end? I love this song but when I listen to it I have to monitor the volume so my ears don't explode
This is a very spiritual Christmas collaboration album by Solid State, a very serious metal record label. I'm sure someone suggested it, and it was immediately shut down. :p
I'm well of Solid State and what they stand for. Been listening to SS bands since their line up included Luti-Kriss (Norma Jean before they became Norma Jean), Extol, Training for Utopia, Blindside, Zao. Eh, the list goes on. Belief aside, I really hope they aren't taking it that seriously. Off note, I've been disappointed with the general direction of the label. Don't get me wrong, there are some great bands still (I'm personally partial to The Overseer), but I feel they've gone from a diverse Independent metal/hardcore label to one that just churns out whatever is trending on through scene, like Rise does. Don't get me wrong, it's a sound business decision and I can't fault them, but I'm getting old and cranky. And, with the absence of Underoath and the departure of ABR, Norma Jean, and Emery, I have little left to stick around for. End rant. TL:DR I'm acting like a cranky old man because I miss old bands.
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Jacob Heston. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen God rest you merry, gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay, Remember Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas Day To save us all from Satan's pow'r When we were gone astray. O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy; O tidings of comfort and joy. From God our heav'nly Father A blessed angel came And unto certain shepherds Brought tidings of the same; How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by name. Now to the Lord sing praises All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood Each other new embrace; This holy tide of Christmas All other doth deface. ***************************************************************************************** December 7 The context of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is important and further magnifies the already powerful words of the song. While the first and last stanzas direct the broad audience of Christians in every age to rest in the wonderful news that the Savior has been born, the middle three stanzas establish the context for the meaning of the song. This shepherd narrative is quite familiar, but I think the circumstance of these herdsmen make the good news even greater. There are four things worth considering this Christmas season. The shepherds were Israelites. As such they are God’s chosen people and recipients of important promises that God has declared to them. This detail captures the reality that all the promises made in the Hebrew Scriptures concerning the future expectations of the Jewish people have not been realized. The good news these Shepherds heard alludes to the fact that God is now moving towards bringing their hope to fruition. The Israelites at this time were under Roman occupation. God promised the Israelites land, seed, and blessing. These promises are later specified to include a king from the Davidic line that would rule and reign forever. The news of this baby boy signals that this very king has been born. This certainly is cause for celebration and a call for Israel to consider their covenant with God. "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" The shepherds were likely Levitical shepherds charged with caring for the lambs that would later be used for the sacrifices on behalf of the nation. Not many would be excited that they would soon be laid off, but the news of the Messiah’s birth foreshadows that He is the One to deliver them from their sins and bring about their promised kingdom. Many commentaries make mention of the historical understanding that in Medieval times “merry” meant “mighty” and “rest” meant “to keep”, or “to make”. This would make the medieval lyrics: “God make ye mighty gentlemen.” A comparison to this medieval understanding is that Robin Hood’s “merry men” were in fact “mighty men.” While it is difficult to find primary source evidence to confirm this linguistic development, if true, the modification changes the meaning slightly and certainly imbues the sentiment the angels communicated to the shepherds in the declaration “fear not” (Luke 2:10). Isaiah 40:1 ““Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God.”

Very different from what I thought I'd hear, but I really like it! It'd be kinda cool if they didn't do a transition and did all acoustic/whatever you wanna call it and have Kirby sing a verse, but I'm not FFAK. Their decision rules out anyone elses. Still bought the album and still love the cover. Just offering feedback that probably will be ignored and/or shamed upon.
I actually liked the transition very much, but I also think it would have been a great song had it not transitioned like that. To everyone that would "shame" you for having an opinion... Well, fuck them :p
MrHXCBASSIST I'm aware of that haha. In fact, I have a video on my channel that shows all of Kirby's clean vocals. I'm just saying that if this cover went differently, Kirby could do something really cool and sing a verse. Again, it's their cover, not mine.
I only listen to this song once every Christmas season, so it stays super special. I will not wear this song out. makes me cry every time.
Anna Kennedy smart.
xmas around the corner ;)
I’m glad I’m not the only one. This song has a very strong emotional attachment to me. I feel like This song is an amazing cover. You can feel the emotions in the vocals
mad respect, yo, mad respect. No way I could have that much restraint. I found this just the other day and have already listened to it twenty times.
nice
Hands-down the best song on the whole album. This song is absolutely perfect, I wouldn’t change a single thing.
I love how seriously they took this song. It's truly amazing.
Christmas has never sounded so beautiful.
This is really really good. His voice is just perfect for this kind of thing
I keep this song in my everyday mix to play throughout the year to remind myself to stay humble and scream out in God's LOVE. I am Grateful 🙏 #ChristianMetalHead
Finally, music I can jam to for the holidays.
This is an amazing cover. You can feel the emotion in the vocals. I listen to this song only a few times a year so it doesn’t get old. But it holds a very strong emotional attachment to me. I will definitely show this song to as many people as I can
this song transports me to a medieval tavern...Cozy while drinking mead in front of the fireplace.
this is amazing Jesus would approve ffak
Honestly, I don’t think Jesus would approve the band overall, but he would approve this song and watg
@Josh Nelson yeah good point ! I think Jesus loves metalheads as well as those listen to pop or gospel .. :-)
The emotion when that breakdown hits...
One of THE Christmas songs and versions! Perfect performance - everything fits in 💗
I love this song and the band
this is great, so glad they didn't make it ridiculously and unnecessarily heavy like a lot of bands do with christmas covers.
check out oh come oh com eemmanuel cover by blood thirsty, think you will like it
These guys are picking up some serious steam. A short, but successful stint on Warped '14, and the perfection that is Slave To Nothing, my boys are on their way to the TOP.
Loving that soulful blue note on _comfort._
They could actually get me to go to church..
As long as you spread the word of the Lord with friends under the same roof, you make your own church that worships our Father.
Have you tried going to church yet? How was it? (Probably no metal, sadly.)
Do not forsake the gathering as some do.
God bless heal and save you
Every Christmas And the days leading up to that glorious day I listen to FFaK and For Today's Christmas covers.
Ryan (Tuck) sounds great! Met him a few times, such a good guy. Cheers FFAK Merry Christmas
I need to go to church and play this song while My paster is just about done with preaching.
holy shit i really like the new clean singer. he's so good.
Ya dude this is flipping amazing. I love this band so much i wish they would come to Owensboro, Kentucky... There simply the best..
That's Ryan singing he does both clean and screams
@@j062780 at this time I don’t think he was doing clean vocals.
Just a great song
2019 and this still is amazing
Tuck has an awesome voice!
All of these are absolutely amazing
does anyone else notice how loud it gets towards the end? I love this song but when I listen to it I have to monitor the volume so my ears don't explode
I just let it make me go deaf more immersive
I wonder if Tuck and Ryan will lead Heaven's choir...
bro
yes
at least the metal heaven choir ;)
Can we make another one? Love this compilation!
This album is much better than Punk Goes Christmas
ikr
I agree in 100% ! :-)
Beautiful rendition!
Honestly, I've never been a fan of Tuck's voice, but this is actually pretty good.
I'm liking this midnight clear thing :)
This is absolutely beautiful
Why was this not called God Rest Ye Merry Djentlemen? Missed opportunity there. Shame shame.

TL:DR I'm acting like a cranky old man because I miss old bands.
I miss a lot of the old scene too man. I just saw he is legend, and that just wasn't the same as it was 8 years ago.
Conspiracy Cat I love The Ongoing Concept, one of the newest and most unique bands SS has
JLyons Rocker I'll give em a chance.
instrumentally this sounds like brand new's daisy, so i absolutely love it
Amazing
I'm making my yearly pilgrimage here.

The context of God Rest Ye Merry

Isaiah 40:1
““Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God.”
this song gave me the chills :)
I'm not familiar with these guys, but this is AWESOME
Hope you love them by now
It's not Christmas but this is so good I have to listen to it.

+Hati Wolfheart here's a lyrics page, you'll just have to copy the English to a Google Translate or something www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/fitforaking/godrestyemerrygentlemen.html
Thank you a lot! I just needed the lyrics, not the translation. So link you gave me is perfect ;)
You're welcome! =)
im pretty sure that using google with the input "fit for a king lyrics" works even if u r not a native speaker.
Jesus Christ loves you

Epic
I always think this is steven cobucci and then I see fit for a king and I get so confused
Jars of Clay's is still my favorite version, but this one is also too good (I think it is better than Pillar's)
Nice profile pic. Can't wait for the new Red album. My favorite version of this song is by Spiritual Plague. Give it a listen if you want :)
It made me want to become religious (although I already was a little)
.....Holy crap! 0-0
I was waiting for the screams to kick in guess not
At the end there are some.
It's there at the end. Albeit subtle.
Does Steve from WATG sing on this track as well??
Very different from what I thought I'd hear, but I really like it! I actually liked the transition very much, but I also think it would have been a great song had it not transitioned like that.
To everyone that would "shame" you for having an opinion... Well, fuck them :p
The transition was perfect
Kirby actually does a lot of clean singing on the album Slave To Nothing
MrHXCBASSIST I'm aware of that haha. In fact, I have a video on my channel that shows all of Kirby's clean vocals. I'm just saying that if this cover went differently, Kirby could do something really cool and sing a verse. Again, it's their cover, not mine.
It reminds me more of Thrice than Fit For A King, but that's still pretty cool! :)
this is pretty good.. I still think Pillar did the best version of this song, though.
i like that version too. mercy me, though not as heavy, did a great cover too.
Actually, check out Spiritual Plague's cover. Pillar did great, but SP's version is almost perfect. Trust me, you will not regret looking them up.
Will do, when I've got a little time.
I agree,
thanks looked them up, they are awesome.
too bad they can't do this shit live
Not at all what I would expect from FFAK
