I always wonder how differently TKOL would be remembered if Supercollider, The Butcher, Staircase and The Daily Mail had been included
Exacly
They blend like a jigsaw, masterpiece bud.
For real
And These Are My Twisted Words is from the same era
It's funny you say that. After Hail to the Thief, Thom posted somewhere an abridged tracklist that would've made that record so much tighter and it probably would be talked about as one of their best the way OKC, Kid A, and In Rainbows are. I think they started leaning towards tighter records after that. I know these tracks where left off because they weren't done, but it's ironic that people look at the tightest record they made as incomplete, and Thom looked back at the loosest as too much.
Dear Radiohead, please play this song live. Your fan, Warren.
Warren ! , Thanks for the tutorials :)
Holy shit Warren we love u

All Radiohead videos should have a tiny dancing Thom in the corner somewhere, just flailing away as he does.
When he says 'my heart's still pumping', the drums come in as if to prove to you your heart's still beating. Amazing feeling when I first heard this. Just feel the blood pumping through you, then the drums come in,
and you feel your heart beating, and then the music just flows through you.
EPIC
its such a high energy moment
it is the second time he says 'my heart's still pumping ' that kills me
3:14 till the end is absolutely amazing.
TKOL with this song, Supercollider, The daily mail and Staircase on it would have been Radiohead's best effort by far.
If they had just released TKOL live from the basement and fit butcher on it somehow... in my opinion, it would've been In Rainbows level of great.
What about "in rainbows" , ???
Knew the part you meant without even clicking. But clicked anyway because it’s dope.

Jesus Christ the best songs from the king of limbs weren't even on the album
Codex was on the album
Absolutely. Really, I mean, damn MORNING MR MAGPIE was on it. And they left out THIS, and Daily Mail and the GORGEOUS Staircase? :(
Woah Woah I see your point. Leaving the Daily Mail off as it didn't fit, fair enough. I get that... But not having Butcher or Staircase on there is pure Heresy.
The album has Codex, GUTG, Bloom and Separator. So . . .
@@lsotg Maybe its just me, but I feel like Butcher/Supercollider felt more like Thom solo material than Radiohead songs. Staircase, however... man that song would've been a great addition.
This would fit right in on The Eraser

@@Citiesinmotionplayer It's magic, and I can't blame them for not playing it live (although I'm sure it's not hard for them to pull off).
Phil Selway is simply brilliant on this piece!
So precise!
Wow, this is underrated. I really LOVE it when Radiohead plays around with beats.
I agree. I think they are probably the best at it out of everyone. I know there are a lot of artists that do this sort of thing and some are probably more experimental than Radiohead, but I just feel like Radiohead can do what anyone else does far better than anyone else. Also, when Radiohead play around with the ol' drum machine... It really makes me hyper aware of the unnecessary nature of Remixes.... Because Radiohead know their way around the mixing and remixing and drum beat patterns far, far, far beyond any of the remix artists - which I just find annoying!
This, Videotape and Little by little, Radiohead are fucking with hidden syncopation, I keep coming back to these 3 songs and couldn't place it for so long.
I danced to this song under a hazy moonlit sky last night. I was out in the country alone with my iPod Classic and earbuds on. Trees surrounded me on both sides with a full moon as the only witness to the event. It was wonderful!
Nathan, i know it's a year later but I love to hear of people doing this kind of thing. I'm prone to do the very same. More power to you, sir. Keep on being fabulous 🌻
Wish I could have joined you

This is forever ago but I wish I could meet someone who loved him as much as I do cuz I would totally be down
Pics or didn’t happen
In the massively long list of non album bangers released by Radiohead, this might be my favorite. Nice of Thom to finally let Jonny play with some banjos!
There's banjos in this??
apparently Jonny enjoys banjos because this ain't the first time he's played them.
This is on my list of most rewarding Radiohead songs. When you know where the downbeat is, the snare coming in is pure euphoria.
Beauty will destroy your mind
Spare the gory details
Give them gift wrap for the man with everything

+Chris Carville I found this one a few year ago and its one of my favourites. Supercollider is the b side i think.......Im a huge Radiohead fan and have been since the early 90s. I still find new work of theirs on here...
The Butcher is the b-side. Well, technically they're both b-sides.
just wondering... isn't supercollider, the butcher, the staircase and the daily mail all "b-sides" of king of limbs ?
Chris Carville neither me! that's why I'm a fan. This band always surprises me.
@Oltgere The last bit made me laugh, the rest I'm trying to figure out if you're joking or have a serious mental illness.
It's amazing listening to this song for the first time not knowing where's the down beat, realizing where it is when the drums come in at the 2 minute mark, and finally listening for a second time to discover an entirely new song now with your understanding of the beat
A song that only so slowly grew on me. And here I am, years after the release, and I'm absolutely loving it
That seems to be Radiohead's theme lately: give it time, and you'll freaking love it
Tell me about it...I wish I could get my lame brother to listen to only Radiohead until they clicked - he'd like them...but right now he doesn't.
the trick with Radiohead is finding that one song that will click, and then you're hooked.

Gorgeous.
Really, genuinely exceptional. They seem to be able to put together these amazing tracks, they sound fantastic. The lyrics have never faltered, and Thom's voice is still incredible. I don't think I'm ever going to stop loving Radiohead, throughout my whole life.
This is how the real order of TKOL is supposed to go:
1. Shut
2. The
3. Fuck
4. Up
5. Literally
6. Nobody
7. Cares

i dont know any of these tracks
Back in the 90s, in my youth.. I wasn't particularly interested in music. I heard good music and I liked it.. It just didn't really bother me. Then I heard Creep for the first time and my eyes/ears were truly opened to music better than I ever imagined. Years later... The song Cuttooth gave me that feeling too, totally unexpectedly.. I thought that, before then.. Music was as good as it could get.. And most of it was done by Radiohead. The B-sides "Cuttooth, Worrywort and Fog" blew my mind and I realised.. There's no limit to how great music can be... The limit is the human ability to write and create it. This song was the latest that I felt opened my mind to what was possible. When I first heard this song and the drums kicked in... I felt as though Radiohead could pretty much "hold the world to ransom".... Yes we live in a world of music piracy.. Where artists don't earn money from their music.. But from touring and merchandise.. But I felt that this song was so good.. That Radiohead could just threaten "There'll be no more of this.. Unless you pay us money!"
The exact same thing happened to me, U2 was about as good as it got, then you started scratching around with the likes of Pet Shop Boys!
But then one day I heard Creep on the radio and loved it, but never heard the artist name! About 2 years later I heard it again (Robbie Williams was playing his favourite tracks on radio1, and it was one of them), this time I got the artist name.
My mate lent me their only 2 albums out at the time... and i thought 'now this is real music'. When OKC came out it blew my mind, it sounded like no other music ever released. Same with Kid A... and so on.
We are lucky to have lived through the progression and anticipation of the RH era (and seen them live). No future RH fans, for the remainder of humanity, will be able to replicate that journey.
I would pay that tax without a moment's hesitation..those bastards!
Cuttooth is so beautiful.
Roman Williams
I've actually tried to do this "journey" thing you're talking about with any new bands I get into. I'll start from their first album and, of their catalogue, listen to only that album for months, before I move onto the next one. To really immerse myself in the progression experience. The thing is, there's few bands out there that even have that level of progression. I still like properly appreciating and learning an album before I move on, now that I'm into audiophile-level HiFi, but seriously... What band out there progressed like Radiohead.
I get that it's all likely "smoke & mirrors" and it's just Thom and the guys trying to change things up each time, but I just can't think of a band out there that reinvents themselves in such a progressive way, where it really lends itself to immersing yourself in one album at a time. Sure there are plenty of artists that reinvent their style - but it doesn't have the same progressive feeling that Radiohead achieved.
So.. Yeah... I feel so lucky to be around for the "Real-Time" progression. I find it really gives the albums context, when you experience their release in "Real-Time".
That being said, I didn't actually get on the Radiohead Train until Ok Computer. It was like '97 when I first heard "Creep", it was featured on a promo CD from a Nintendo Magazine and with it being kind of "pre-internet/youtube" days, it wasn't until my uncle gave me a cassette tape of The Bends and Ok Computer that I really got into them properly. I had bought Pablo Honey, but had no idea what was to come from The Bends and OK Computer on those cassette tapes.
Then, with Kid A, I remember my friend and were stunned and dismayed at first. We were like "what's happened to Radiohead?? This.... Doesn't seem that good". We had faith though, we knew there was something we were missing and so we kept listening to Kid A and it wasn't until we went on holiday to Majorca with some friends and would take turns staying in each night, to get stoned and listen to Kid A. I remember my mate coming back and I was stoned out of my mind, ranting at him that "there's extra songs! New songs appeared on the cassette tape, man! They weren't there before!!!".... But really, it was just that I finally really got Kid A.. And when that happened, and my mind opened to it, it all sounded brand new - even though I'd listened to the tape several times before that night.
Fuckin' Good Times, man!
What TKOL should have looked like:

The Daily Mail
Feral (Live Version)
Supercollider
The Butcher
Codex
Give Up the Ghost
Separator (Live Version)
***** I agree. They are more fragile, and shouldnt be any different
drummer4916 Staircase?
I firmly believe if this was the album, it would be up there with Kid A and OK Computer.
+LuckyKidA TKOL in it's current state is definitely better than OK Computer... i've listened to OK Computer way way more, but that's just due to time... TKOL in all forms is way more interesting than OK Computer ever was honestly
+Doug Phrishpreed. um
"The King of Limbs" is a perfect metaphor for describing a tree.
It has many limbs and a great crown of leaves.
Since Kid A, all the albums have been out there, as classics.
how do they continue to make such epic music? It's beyond me.
haven't you realized yet, that there is no need to compare their albums.. it's like a metamorphosis.. it depends on your mood, feelings and on which level you are at the moment. each of their albums represent a feeling. and you can feel the album, or not. and it's changing in time, as you change.
Took a few listens for me to get it but god, I hear this song now and it's just got this certain amazing sense of epicness which I simply didn't hear at first. If you're underwhelmed by this at first, trust me it gets better every time you hear it
Once again, a B side track that is more than worthy of being on the album. Oh wait it's Radiohead....
I finally understand this song after 4 years.. amazing
What does it mean?
what does it mean?
what does it mean?
What does it mean?
What does it mean?
It's a shame this isn't on king of limbs with staircase and daily mail.
Daniel Staab supercollider too
Yeah why not? King of Limbs is only 8 songs. I love them all.
It could swap with Feral (the only weak Song on TKOL imo)
@@leehiro4840 yh I'd trade out feral for these four B-sides any day. Even though I do like feral it's definitely the weakest
And these are my twisted words should be on the album
This song just brings so many memories, and it's really odd, I used to know a guy who was kind of fucked up in the head. He was a pretty agressive boy. Then when he turned 17 he left with his mother to Switzerland and later on he found a job as a butcher there. Only years later I was told he really had a hard time when he was a kid; he had lived stuff that would make anyone feel terribly hollow. This song is like I'm inside his head, listening to what he might be thinking every morning.
I CANT STOP LISTENING TO THIS. Radiohead, you guys are amazing.
It's such a sluggish gritty song really... I imagine thats why its not on king of limbs... It stands out on its own
I can't recover from 3:30, the build up to that point is just insane. And the rest...
This rhythm makes me groove
For some reasons, it reminds me of ``The amazing sounds of orgy``. Mind-blowing, oddly spooky track.
Radiohead's b-sides are better than the vast majority of bands actual albums.
Farhad Zulfiqar certainly!
Farhad Zulfiqar True
Farhad Zulfiqar Very True!
This isn't a B-side though, It's technically an A-side/double single
No way is that true...
Sounds sooo good, can't wait to have the vinyls, posters, etc :)
Bloody out of this world moving, from the drum loops to lyrics. Can't hear it enough times!
I have to agree with you about when Phil comes in @ 2:02....this group of musicians....These Radiohead people are of their own ilk! They are fascinating..not afraid to share what they feel...and they do metamorphisize t/o time. they are timeless, flawless and without paralell! ONE of a KIND
what a fucking TREMENDOUS track. from now on this gonna be the last track on my dj set... no matter where i play.
fuck i love when the drums come in around two minutes
eargasmic!
Great song. The percussion reminds me of Björk's "Earth Intruders", although they're not that similar, another great song.
i think this is part of the king of limbs. Look at the damn limbs on the art work! They just like to release songs out like this because it catches our attention more and creates a bigger "hype" for the songs. I think its just another great idea radiohead has Someone in the group obviously has studied business/ economics because there is a certain theme to each album that makes them unique and marketed well, not in a revenue aspect but more in a way that leaves the listener constantly satisfied
im sad ive been a fan of radiohead for years and have only found this song now! my hearts still pumping..
Another track that should've never been excluded from The King Of Limbs. It's brilliant, creepy in the good way, even neurotic. It reminds me a lot of the Kraftwerk records my father used to listen when I was a little boy.
At first I did not like these tracks. Didn't listen to 'em in a while and now I see the beauty in them. Looking past yourself and listening to what your heart has to say.
Grandiosa canción, simplemente brillante... gracias RADIOHEAD
One of the few bands that just keeps getting better and better. 💕💕💕
This is a great tune, damn I love Radiohead
These guys are quickly becoming my favorite musicians.
Amazing song.
I was about to complain about the loops, but then it got better. Great song =)
2:01. Perfect.
the king of limbs and this song (no idea where its from, nor do i really care) sounds almost primeval, with the forest imagery and the compounding, ritualistic drum beats, the dancing on the lotus flower clip and the constant use of animal and nature references. something about the beast in this one, which scares me and excites me all at the same time.
2017 yeahh
He’s a worrierrrrrrr, a worrierrrrrrrrr what a twist and breakdown. Radiohead knows how to command sonic energy like it’s nothing. The Daily Mail is a great example of that.
Dodbb, dodbb dodbb, tist tist... Dodbb, dodbb dodbb. - Dodbb, dodbb dodbb tist tist... Dodbb, dodbb dodbb... What a sexy cadence.
3:38 THIS IS SO GOOD.
GOOOD!!! a better one!!!
I wonder if Thom could ever muster the creative energy to write another song as perpetually unfolding, sharp, and epic as Paranoid Android.. If only.
Don't you just love hidden gems?
the beat doesn't change - it just isn't clear from the first section where beat one is. It's good to listen to where the live drums come in and hear the original beat against that so when you listen to the start again you can hear where the real beat one is.
This song is about a Butcher
drums kick in. perfect.
wow! Esta canción es perfecta para una escena de una película o algo por el estilo me encanta!😻😻😻
I love the over lapping percussion!
they finally put this on spotify
Radiohead have such a unique sound in each of their albums -- insane creativity. Sheer genius.

Meat hook
Radiohead always seem to become better at what they do and I love them for that! Beautifully haunting track!
Does it matter which album it should or shouldn't have been on ? Just enjoy it !!
The important thing is that it was released.
Agreed
Follow the bass to find the 'one' during the first two minutes. Then the kickdrum as the acoustic drums set in. The bass then switches to the afterbeat, but the rhythm continues in 4/4 time.
i seriously cannot rank radiohead albums. not even pablo honey. they are all in the top of their own little categories. they're amazing. i don't feel the need to rank them. they're all so amazing.
Definitely my favorite Radiohead's song.
Radiohead cut of the BEST musics from TKOL... Staircase, Daily and The Bucher...
Anyway. My ideal TKOL is this. Belive-me try this sequence and the Album will be fucking good.

+marco matheus Separator needs to be the last song >:( It's perfect
Agreed. "And if you think is over then you're wrong" is a perfect example of why it needs to be the last.
Beautiful.
Can someone tell me what he sings in the first line?
I've seen three versions of it - "beauty will destroy your mind", "you'd do well to destroy your mind", and even "voodoo will destroy your mind", but none of these seems to make any sense, so I'm led to think they're all wrong.
Cant wait for the full album. I think it does a great job of continuing the very atmospheric tone that King of Limbs had. Cant wait to hear more.
im not one to leave comments but for this i must, what a masterpiece, thanks
(2:00) here is where the rhythm changes, and the magic starts. i must say it, this song is fucking awesome just as always.
I mean this is as good as anything on TKOL or AMSP (and better than a lot of TKOL songs IMO), yet it's a B-side?? Madness.
Same could be said for supercollider IMO
Staircase is the non album song that does it for me.
Staircase is one of my favourite songs by anybody, ever!
There are so many amazing Radiohead b-sides that are album-worthy it is insane. Think _Talk Show Host_, _Pearly_, _A Reminder_, _Fog_, etc. I totally agree that _Staircase_ deserves to be on an album proper, but then I've maintained the same about _Talk Show Host_ for years, so it's just more of the same!
It seems relevant to mention the _In Rainbows_ second disc here. I have met few people who even knows this exists, and that includes my friends who like Radiohead. Yet songs like _Down Is The New Up_, _Last Flowers (To The Hospital)_ and _Bangers & Mash_ are just as good as those on the album (and in some cases better, imo).
love when the drumbeat morphs...
This should've been on TKOL
i guess you could call it a TKOL b-side.
TKOL +4 (supercollider/butcher/daily mail/staircase) is like the intended album.
Well it clearly isn't, considering they were released as b-sides and not on the album. They're all fantastic, but they weren't intended on the album
Are you American? I can't think why else you'd be so fucking literal. Note the word "like" in the above statement. Were it not there then your inference would be correct. It is there, and you're not.
that was definitely an english 'like', actually meaning 'similar to', rather than american, 'we use the word like as punctuation' i guess. literally...
I can´t say what i feel when i listen to this song... Thank you Radiohead for the music.
for the most progressive music, I dont know where to going unless here.
+Clin Trump unless ... amok, maybe before your very eyes
Going from this to Bjork ain't a bad idea either.
can't wait to see they play this
WTF! That transition! -> 2:01 impossible for flesh-made drummer.
I know your thinking "drum machine" or something of that nature but this is 2 drummers my friend.
Generik LNC then the after-2:01-drummer ears (and eyes) should be deactivated before 2:01.
he keeps going when the 2nd drummer comes in
I was refering to second drummer. Both drummer play in 4/4. The problem is on the start of second. At 2:01
***** Yeah, my premise is that's impossible to be played live. Unless the second drummer doesn't hear the first drummer at all.
i adore this song
I like TKOL, but I can see why many don't. It's definitely one of their weaker albums. Repetition is fine, but when several layers of music are being repeating constantly, it can become very grating to listen to. That's the problem with the album. The songs sound nice, but go on far too long for their own good. Despite this, TKOL is their shortest album. Supercollider and The Butcher were recorded in the same sessions and Staircase and The Daily Mail, which were recorded in the "Live from the Basement" were both written before TKOL, so it's not like they ran out of music. I know these "how the track listing should be" comments are annoying, but if I could change something to improve TKOL, I'd make every song currently on the album except "Lotus Flower" shorter and add these four songs, unaltered.
i donno but for me this is one of radiohead's best songs.. i really like it.
Why isn't this on Itunes?? 😭😖

i think they barely put it up in 2016
when those drums kick in it really gets my rocks off.
