- I bought this '72 Giulia Super 1.3 in the internet, without seeing her before. Then I went to Napoli by train and transferred her home on wheels.

Hi Greasy Fingers.... I'm so happy to have found your videos. They are absolutely brilliant. Step by step logical advances with explanations ! I am not a metalworker, but a keen enthusiast. "Hands ON" for cars and repairing anything. Like you, I bought an Alfa Romeo on the internet, a 1973 Spider S2. Its a "105" !!
Same basic floor as the Giulia Saloon. I expected rust. I got it. I have put off starting my project because of different commitments but that is all gone and I will be starting these days. Your videos give me a head start on what to expect and what to look out for. Thank you.

I'm just catching up on your videos, having recently found your channel. Not only superb workmanship but genuinely outstanding commentary . As an Englishman I am always ashamed that so few of us (including myself) are competent in any language other than our own. I was a bit worried as I opened the video, but she is very original. Very similar to my 1984 Alfasud, only I'm sorry to say mine is quite a lot better than that. It spent most of it's life in th Kalahari desert. Great to watch, there are some lucky Alfas out there, and the Guilia is my second favourite Alfa. A very good find for you! 😃

Don’t be intimidated. All you need to know is that you have to add 8-10k of costs for sill restoration to every Alfa you buy. Even then Giulia’s are great classic cars for a reasonable price.
@@GreasyFingers Thanks. I’m living outside Europe right now, but have my eye on a 2000 GTV (US car) with SPICA to bring with me when I return to 🇨🇭. However, totally unsure about the 🇨🇭 rules for importing in a classic car.
I guess they’ll charge you some toll, but having a Swiss registration will also increase its value.

I should add my Sud had no end of bush mechanics that needed correction, so mechanically she wasn't the best, but now she waits for dry days and to surprise modern cars. Fixing all the mechanics cost me nearly as much as I paid for the car 😂😂

Great video's and of course a '72 Giulia will have some corrosion, but let's face it the adventure of getting the car travelling over half of Europe for me is also what it is all about, I picked up a Renault R8S 15 years ago in Acquapendente, north of Roma, even the drive down with the Mercedes van and trailer was great, and today my mate and I pick up cars all over Europe, just as a hobby.
I do hope you will keep the original 1300 engine like I had it in my '75 Nuova Giulia, a lot of Giulia's are ruined by 'improving' them by installing a 1750 or 2 liter engine while the art of driving is to get everything out of the 1300 engine !
Thanks for your comment, John. I couldn’t agree more. Picking her up in Napoli and bringing her home on wheels is a armature I will never forget. I also agree to the your comment on the 1300 engine. I actually like this engine a lot more than the 2 Liter which I had in a Spider 20 years ago. I have no experience with 1600 and 1750 though.
What happens with the cars after you picked them up?
@@GreasyFingers we sold them after some time, but I still have the Renault R8 S and a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) 2-door Impreza Sti which we used to buy in England, but the 2 door models are getting very expensive. My car we converted it to left hand drive

Thanks Robert. The channel has been switched to English recently, today all my videos except one are in English. All further productions will be made in English.
The lift is a Twin Busch. It does what is says and it’s not too expensive. However, it certainly is a compromise owed to the limited height of the ceiling in my workshop.
How did you access the rear bolts to remove the front seats? I can’t slide the seat forward far enough on mine.
Did you remove the front bolts first?
@@GreasyFingers Yup, still wouldn’t slide too far forward. Looked for some kind of stopper, nothing. The cutting wheel is calling me, but I’m not an animal haha

There must be some end stop when you move the seat forward.
I did much the same in buying my ‘69 Giulia 1300 TI, (bought over the internet sight unseen except for some photos). A previous owner had the car done up as a Giulia Super. Like yours mine too has rust hidden (and not so hidden) under a coat of shiny red paint. How much rust and will it be like yours, quite probably. Can I carry out such repairs as you are doing, alas no. I don’t have the skills, a workshop or the gear. I will have to pay for it to be done. It won’t be cheap. First off though I have been collecting all the parts I need to rebuild the suspension, had most of the interior restored, including the seats done in leather etc. I had my car transported from Adelaide, South Australia to my home in Tasmania. It sits waiting patiently for me to have the funds to restore it.
Hi David. What you describe is nothing but the normal case and I really hope this is giving you some comfort. It happened to all of us. These cars always have rust issues and the prices they are traded for, just doesn’t allow to fix them properly. But, you know, if you fell in love with it, what can you do?
@@GreasyFingers Indeed your correct, it’s a part of being afflicted by the Alfa virus. I have owned Alfa’s since the early ‘80s. Giulia’s, Berlina, GTV, Alfettas and a 156. The only good thing these days with the 105 series Alfa’s is that so many parts are available now, and the prices of good condition Giulia’s have increased. Is it economical to pay to have it fully restored, probably not. But what can one do, but follow one’s heart. 👍😁

@@GreasyFingers can you tell what brand of rust products and paint you used, as I am in America and the products are limited and I will have to order some stuff on line, my space is small, so brushable stuff would be the best. Since I have some areas I can’t cut out, I the products for the job.., I have a friend who might help doing the rockets- any and all advice would be helpful- since it will have to be done in sections and some of it might be panel bonded or glued and the rest resistant welded with electricity instead of mig welded
