Over the years I almost completely stopped following channels that discuss new gear and only watch channels that actually teach photography. Yours is one of the best if not the best. You are a great teacher and help me stay inspired to take photos and keep improving. Thank you.
My favorite videos are the ones like this one where you're just out and about in random woods and hills and maybe not too far from home. It's very calming and also inspirational
Video idea: We usually see you out photographing beautiful scenic places like the Cairngorms, the Lake District, Luskentyre, Iceland etc. but we can't all easily get to places like that every week and I think it would be really interesting to see how you would deal with the challenges of shooting somewhere that is not so obviously photogenic. I live in Hertfordshire where the countryside is a bit boring by comparison with the places you go and sometimes find it quite difficult to feel inspired and motivated. But it should still be possible to get good shots that highlight the beauty of where we are by using the light and weather conditions, having an eye for interesting compositions and look for opportunities to take pictures which tell a story. It would be great to get your ideas on how to do this occasionally, it could be more than just one video as you could do this in different seasons and weathers, and knowing you live on the Cheshire plain I think you must have suitable places on your doorstep.
So many people live in areas without the mountains, lakes, and rolling hills. Show us how to get great photographs from flat wooded terrain. It’s challenging, but if anyone can do it, it’s you. Thanks,
Your videos are the only photography video my wife watches we love your jobs and you are amazing… from Madrid Spain 🇪🇸
Hi Nigel, I love your videos and watch them each week. Future video idea: why not return to Yosemite!!
Thank you for taking me out into the snowy Cairngorms, whilst I snuggle up in a warm bed with my coffee on a Sunday morning and enjoy Nigel Time. It does't get better than this.
If you had a shirt made with "It doesn't get better than this" on it, I'd definitely buy one. Love your channel and your photography!
Follow your heart. Be true to yourself. That’s all that matters. It shows in your photography!
Great video Nigel. Definitely prefer the "in the field" videos over gear and tips videos. Mixing the others in once in a while is great, but when it comes to landscape channels in the field just brings a higher level of excitement. Loved the winter wonderland conditions in this one.
Lovely to watch the images come to life. A suggestion for future videos: a step by step of everything that leads up to a good photo shoot, like from how you pack the coffee and everything in the bag you need so that you can make it through the elements and still get time to take good photos. I also enjoy seeing the actual prints that you make, it really completes the process.
Nigel, If you love snow and the mountains, and perhaps also picturesque mountain villages, a trip to the Alps may yield wonderful images and give you a wonderful time. We've just returned from skiing in Austria's Arlberg region, staying in a tiny old village called Stuben not far from famous St. Anton, the cradle of skiing, and we had such a lovely time not only in terms of enjoying the sport, but also marvelling at the truly breathtaking views in the ever changing light between moving clouds and snowy mountains. Many splendid areas even high up on the mountains can be accessed without skis/snowboard by gondola or lift. Spring time when nature awakens and hiking is more feasible would also be a great time to visit. The air is so clean, and the Alps are so incredibly beautiful and awe inspiring. I'm sure you would love it.
Pretty much everywhere you go, Nigel, you come home with quality images. Good subjects, good light, good compositions, etc.. But the final magic which they all have in common, is how you edit them in post, which creates the final wow image. I want to learn more about editing in some of your future videos. I need the icing one the cake, so to speak. Thanks so much.
I really like watching you out in the field and then seeing one or more of the images printed. I also like how you showed different printing and framing options. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!!
Yes! Let's get back to doing what we love and stop pandering to the algorithm. The algorithm crushes real creativity and everybody loses except bigtech. I LOVE watching photographers on site and seeing what they're seeing. More of this 🙌
The videos in the woods provide a great tutorial on shooting ordinary scenes. I think the biggest challenge new photographers have is how to shoot interesting subject matter and find inspiration in our own back yard. Many of us can only get to the picturesque landscape once per year on a trip. We live in ordinary towns with ordinary objects. I think videos that expand beyond the common woods would be insightful and inspirational. How to I shoot my car so it pops like in a magazine ad. A vase of flowers. A bowl of fruit. And I’m not talking about product photography per se. But how can I keep practicing in my neighborhood and make a dynamic photo with my mailbox. That would be fun to see. Thank you for your endless efforts. Matt
Hi Nigel, keep doing what pleases you. Ignore the algorithm. I stop watching photographers who insist on 'the best 10 of this', or 'how this camera changed my world'. I also love your videos where you go to new places and don't concentrate on the honey pot views. I'm sat watching this on a rainy day in Lofoten, on what must be my 10th trip here. Long gone is my desire to photograph Hamnoy bridge, or the viewing point at Reine. I love scouting new places and waiting for the light, which, as you say, makes all the difference. Keep doing what you do and we will keep watching.
I would LOVE a video where you go through a whole picture from going to a location. Then retouching from start to finish. Plus talk about composition while you're taking it. I believe this one would be longer than your other videos but it'll be well worth it.
Kudos to you Nigel for going back to what brings you the most joy. I loved this and the previous week's video. I say continue spending more time out in the field. I would enjoy some content on "intimate landscapes". Best, Mark
Love the fact that you are out and about with your camera explaining to viewers what you’re doing, and how you’re thinking. It’s where a photographer should be, and we learn from it as well. Thank you Nigel, for your beautiful and informative videos! 🇦🇺
