    Yeah. That final scene hits hard. You weren't the only ones left in tears there.

      Fr. Maybe I'm looking too deep into it, but even the big screen in the background, a digital representation of the beauties in life, with Will taking it in and appreciating it- I can feel how much it means to him. What a powerful representation of not taking for granted the simple and small beauties in life.

    Most of the science stuff in the show & books are speculative & might likely be possible in future. It also has a lot of theoretical & real concepts of physics too… n-body problem, human computers, nano fibres, higher dimensions, sophons, that is what makes it insane!! Author of the books is computer engineer/scientist IRL too!!

    34:05 "just because you only designed the weapons, doesn't make you any less responsible for what they used for."
    That is exactly Auggies point. You guys are being too harsh on her. And killing children isn't just "collateral." If you have to do something like that to win a war, so be it. But don't excuse yourself for it, you did something monstrous, you owe it to those kids to remember that.

      Depends on where you assign blame. Seems to me that the people who have the children in the position where they can reasonably be expected to be in danger are the main reason behind their death. - Steejo

      @@SuzySteejo I agree w/tomhathaway, it is killing Augie deep in her heart. She feel her guilt. She wants to help people not to be part in their murder. She is not a selfish person but a person full of empathy for others. She may have the skills for the job but not for the heart for harming others.

      @@SuzySteejo On one hand, they had no reason to believe any danger would come to them, because like most cults they felt they were favored and protected. In this case, they had damn good proof of it actually being so. Until they weren't protected anymore.
      On the other hand, they were still traitors so fuck 'em and their kids got no better than all the kids in all the cities crushed by wars so it sucks but it is our nature anyway.
      I don't blame Auggie being hard to come to terms with having anything to do with such things. She has some attitude about it, but understandable as well.
      She also has a point: even IF the humans invent weapons that can defeat the San-Ti what's the first thing we'll do with them once that particular threat is gone? Who says the military industrial complex they build to stop aliens won't be re-deployed on ourselves? In her calculus, better perhaps to be defeated by the universe than to do it to ourselves.

    • @ShadowPhoenix82
      @ShadowPhoenix82 2 місяці тому

      I'm hard on her too because she's self-righteous, but her guilt definitely makes sense and her decision to do nothing to help is reasonable.

    "If they can create sophons and all that, why are they worried about us?"
    They explained this twice in previous episodes.
    They are 400 Years away, by the time they reach us we will have long surpassed them in technology. We would wipe the floor with them, then go to their planet and wipe it to entirely eliminate the threat.

    • @SuzySteejo
      @SuzySteejo  Місяць тому

      The point is, why are they needing to be so up front about everything. If they have the sophons that have direct communications with them they could have manipulated us and learned about us through observation without the need to be involving humans. - Steejo

    This is reminding me somewhat of the game Terra Invicta (might be your type of game Steejo). Aliens arrive and humanly is split between the fanatics wanting to eliminate all aliens, the humans a just trying to free earth, the humans who want to run away from earth, the humans who just care about making money as the world burns, the humans who want to basically surrender to the aliens and live under them, and the humans who worship the aliens.

    Elon Musk cares about getting to Mars and trying to establish some sort of extraterrestrial habitat the same way people cared about getting to the moon during the “space race”era. Also, for the same reasons people now want to return to the moon and set up bases. It’s a step in our technological progress as a species.
    I don’t particularly give af about Musk, but it strikes me as odd to complain that nowadays people are only thinking about their immediate interests and then in the next breath complain about someone committing to a project that will really only benefit our descendants.

      @@SuzySteejo Unfortunately I'm with elon on this, as much as I hate him, we cant trust 100+ nations to come together and battle climate, its much easier to find a way out for the worst case (mars etc.).
      Trying to reverse what we have done for a million years will be much harder. Then again, i could be wrong.

      @@user-343-8fx the reason to settle Mars isn't to abandon Earth. He isn't suggesting that. He wants humans to be a multi-terrestrial species, not a trans-terrestrial one.

    • @Sarsenwood
      @Sarsenwood 22 дні тому +1

      @@SuzySteejo Sorry, I don't weigh in on the internet often, but I had to this time. Musk's interest in Mars isn't as a solution to climate change, it's as a solution to asteroid strikes, solar storms, and other crisis that threaten whole planets but can't be prevented. There's also the incentive of space-sourced resources, which can alleviate the stress mining puts on the biosphere once we get stellar industry up and running, which we could do this century if we were all as dedicated as Musk and his team seem to be. SpaceX has revolutionized space travel with their reusable rockets, and that's a big step in the right direction.
      SpaceX launches are also significantly cheaper than NASA, EASA, and Roscosmos launches, so they waste far fewer dollars than would be wasted otherwise. They also do commercial contracts, which directly benefit the public by putting up things like comms satellites.
      And as for climate change, Musk also founded an electric car company and a solar power company, which had a galvanizing effect on both industries. He's hardly neglecting this planet.
