  • I decided to take myself to Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth, Georgia for my first solo camping trip. I was not disappointed! The campground was so peaceful and was just the nature therapy I needed.

Enjoyed your video. We live a little less than 2 hrs away. We've driven there a few times just for hiking and love the park. My husband and I haven't been camping since we were teenagers... so we're headed up to do some tent camping next week... get our feet wet. Really looking forward to it. We're preparing for a cross country camping trip, headed to see the redwoods in CA next year, so we need some trial runs.
I think, if you're in a well populated park and you're careful about your surroundings... you should be just fine camping alone. GA is a constitutional carry state... so feel free to pack a side arm and make sure you get good instruction on it first. It may help you to stay safe out there. Happy travels!

My first camping trip was there on that exact site. I really enjoyed it. The walk to the restroom was a bit of a pain.

I am rebuilding my camper now. It is a small camper. I have been thinking about where to go this Spring. I may check this place out.

I really enjoyed it. I want to go back soon! I'm sure it's busier in Spring and Summer, but it was so quiet and peaceful. Just what I needed!

I'm not a big fan of camping alone lol especially where there are bears lol and we always made sure we were at the campsite before dark because we did it at night once because of schedule issues and we will never do it again! And yes that was a spider at the end... as a Tennessee native I can say I'd rather see a snake than a spider lol

I admire you for that! Glad you had a good time. Me? Motel 6 is roughing it. Years ago went with some friends to meet other friends at Lake Nacimiento in California. We found their spot, though they had gone off hiking. I asked other campers what were the holes in the ground. Prairie dogs or other critters. No. Tarantulas!! I spend two nights in my car. Vents and windows rolled up and doors locked. Checked and rechecked everything that got packed back into the car. That was my last outdoor adventure. I have my oldest friend trying to get me to go with him on a long RV journey. I'm thinking about it. AND as I'm writing this, it's 42 degrees, raining here in lovely Las Vegas, NV.

Next time bring a footprint or a tarp to put your tent on it will save the life of the bottom of your tent

No I wouldn’t camp by myself. I don’t think I would sleep a wink. All that wind and hearing critters outside. I’m already about to cry!! LOL🤣 You are courageous! 😀

I’m surprised I was totally not scared at any point! I guess I’m more brave than I thought LOL. I think I would be more scared to backpack like in the middle of the forest alone. I was at a state park with others nearby so I felt safe.
