Just bought two columns for gigging on the weekly in the UK, I've been looking for more portability after my two 15" cabinets have become a little awkward to carry. I will keep keep you guys posted and may even post a video to let you know my thoughts as there's not alot of info or videos of these in live application.
I just bought one of these and received it yesterday. My initial impression is that is very good for the money. On paper it has the same SPL as the Bose L1 Pro 8 but costs a fourth of the price. I have had a demo of the Bose and it is excellent but it is not 4 times as good as this SubZero unit. The SubZero provides an impressive amount of bass and like the Bose, the mids are perhaps a bit lacking compared to the treble but it is not bad. The high frequency drivers are actually a bit larger than the 2” units in the Bose, which might mean slightly more mids. I will have to see with use. I am not expecting miracles for the price but I feel this will be adequate for band rehearsals and I will keep my 2 EV ZLXa for gigs. Apart from anything else I wouldn’t want to risk some idiot bashing into this, as I feel it would be quite easy to damage the column: it is a 4 piece unit at the highest setting. Although there are no instructions on setting it up, it’s pretty easy to work out. It takes only a few minutes to assemble, which is what I wanted for rehearsals: just one unit to transport and 5 minute setting up rather than half an hour with poles, cables, speakers, etc. Take the left from the mixer into channel A, the right into Channel B (switched to line level), DSP setting to flat and you are ready to rock. There is an XLR line out for monitors. I bought the Gear4Music 15” speaker bag at the same time (as there is no slip cover offered for the base unit) and you can fit the whole thing into it, including the bag for the poles. In total it weighs a bit over 19kg if you do that but relatively easy to lift in and out of the boot of a car. I have yet to try the unit with my band but solo and with recorded music it seems to be pretty good. The Bluetooth works well. At the moment I am very satisfied with my purchase.
Thanks for the comment, very useful. So, probably best used for rehearsals and sidefill/monitors rather than gigs? I'm thinking to get a battery powered speaker for small restaurants/pubs, as carrying Yamaha DXR12's and setting all the cables up for playing at 20% volume is a bit annoying. Maybe LD Maui would be better?
@@ryoukos I haven’t tried using mine at a gig, so I can’t really say. I think if I was already lugging two active PA speakers and maybe a bin, or two as well, I wouldn’t want this extra item to lug. For monitoring purposes it takes a lot to beat a good wedge, or in-ear system IMO. I played in an acoustic band that had one of the previous generation Bose L1 systems (that was excellent) but I always found I needed to use my amp or a wedge for monitoring. Perhaps the output from the array was going over our heads, as we played sitting down. I was also told by one of the PA salesmen at my local PMT that you have to watch out for phasing issues when you combine a column with conventional PA speakers. Interesting he said the same could apply with two columns as well. Personally I am reserving the column for rehearsals and I might use it if I ever did a solo/duo acoustic gig. That is not necessarily because the SubZero is not up to a small band gig, I haven’t tested it. Previous experience with the Bose makes me feel that you would need at least the Pro 16, if not the 32 (or equivalent) to work with a rock drummer. I don’t have any experience of the LD systems kit I am afraid, so can’t really comment on that.
So an update on the subzero l410x as I said I was going to do. I bought two of these units for on the road gigging in the on the UK social club scene. I'm a solo Vocalist singing to backing tracks and my initial thought on these was to get more portability rather than dragging round 2x15" cabs. The portability factor they have nailed I can't fault them on that it's study yet very easy to use. The problem however was there was just no where near enough power out of these. I used them for two gigs over the last weekend on both occasions I had major sound distortion and compression, they just lack power. The quality of the music is great theres no problems there if you are a solo dj this would be the way to go. for a Vocalist just don't bother it's a shame I was really looking forward to using these as I've been on the road for coming up to twenty years just that little bit of portability is what I was looking for. I've since bought two 15" cabs and I'm just gonna have to swallow the bitter pill.
Thanks for the reply. Im a gigging saxophonist, and i need a system to playback backingtracks. And perhaps for my sax sound, throught a wireless mic of its a big palace. And i was wondering if this would be the way to go.. What do you think?
just bought that and bear in mind that there is only one column with speakers and rest of them are empty just carrying power, sounds really good anyway
I bought two PA system but , middle three speakers are not working both system . is it dummy speaker? main unit and top one are perfectly working can you give reply Please
Hi . So I’ve purchased the bundle pack recently where you get 2 speakers 2 mics 2 mic stands and a mixer the only thing I will say that I think is bad is the instructions of setting this product up , there really isn’t any . There is a booklet in the mixer box and the boxes the speakers come in but know instructions on how to connect these speakers together with the mixer so I’m just assuming that you treat the speakers as a pair of active speakers and connect in to the mixer left and right speaker out ? Just would have thought if your selling a product in this format you would also include instructions for this option of having 2 speakers and mixer 🤘
*TO ALL US CUSTOMERS:* This unit in the Lithium battery powered model WILL NOT ship to the USA. This is insane!!! This model had better specs than anything on the American market, period. 1000 watts of portable power, larger tweeter arrays, AND only $560., retail. What a complete and utter disappointment.
Thinking about buying one of these or the duo PA set. That was at about 50% volume??? 😳👍🏽 Do you think one is enough (loud enough) to use for a small gig with drums with it or for rehearsal with live drums & keys?
I’ve just sent my system back to you as the Column speakers weren’t working. Your Repairs Department says the column speakers are ‘Spacers’ why do I need ‘Spacers’ if they’re not Speakers? The Column wasn’t giving me any sound at all. Everything was coming through the Base speaker. Got no ‘top’ level at all and my voice wasn’t being heard at all. Your Repairs Department says its working? My backing track couldn’t be heard clearly either! So disappointed.
No sound demo at all? Maybe as compared with some other, more well-known system? While no sound demo can be accurate, comparative demos say a lot to those who have ears on their heads. Advertising claims and praise won’t sell me this system. The proof is in the pudding.
Here's a link to something I found that might help you, below. I'd never even heard of SubZero before, but I might give it a try! ua-cam.com/video/xAl46pV9RZw/v-deo.html

That’s very useful! Because the video doesn’t mention it and NEITHER DOES THE WEBSITE!!!

They are spacers; this is made clear in the video; you add the spacers if you need to get the sound to throw a little further.
