18:00 Where to buy the best Line Array PA systems
Line Array, or column PA systems as they’re sometimes known as, have become increasingly popular over the past few years due to their ease of setup, great sound projection and their portability, when compared to more conventional PA systems and speakers which tend to be bulkier, heavier and more complicated and time consuming to set up.
A line array system will usually comprise of a tall column section, which is home to a number of small speakers which handle the high and mid-range frequencies, and then there’s a larger subwoofer unit for the bass end, which also houses an amplifier and a small mixer for your inputs.
In this PA system buying guide we're looking at some of the best portable sound systems including the new Bose L1 Pro series, the JBL Eon One, which is battery powered, making it one of the best PA systems for buskers, and the Yamaha StagePas 1K, one of the loudest small PA systems available.
So if you're looking for the best line array speakers for DJs or bands or a portable sound system or Public Address system for conferences and speeches, hopefully we can point you in the right direction!

By far best tutorial on PA set up I have seen. Sincerest thanks.
Thank you for the performance and information. The Bose really shines on the vocal end, so clear and smooth. Nice performance too!
This is hands down the best review I have seen so far on these speakers. Thx
No doubts, its the best video about these systems. Thank you Meg.
voice like butter and the Bose L1 is the pan that made us all oozing and melting. sooo smooth wow
Beautiful voice! This video has cleared up so much for me. Good luck with your music. Cheers!
Great demo and great performance too, well done!
Excellent rundown on all the PA's. I recently bought the Yamaha reviewed here. So far so good. Yamaha knows their stuff when it comes to pro audio. They build live mixing consoles worth 100 grand. Wonderful presentation. I especially enjoyed the playing and singing.
Forget the PA systems for a moment. Her voice and playing are awesome
Excellent video...all the right info and well conveyed. Cheers.
Love your voice and playing Meg.
Very comprehensive review thanks. I hope you are gigging. You play beautifully and your voice is Excellent
Had a Maui 28 G2 for two years absolutely solid sound
When doing big venues I whack the bass up add a QSC 10 k2 and it’s superb
Bose something magical 😍
El Bose L1 pro 16 ,es espectacular, con calidad y potencia espectaculares!
Awesome melodies on the 2nd song. Great voice. What a cutie.
Love your play and singing
Enjoyed the Bose, sounded like I thought a good system could sound like in a room versus direct. Good comparison and lovely singing!
I have the Bose L1 pro 16 and OMG!!! the sound quality and power is incredible, very light and easy to transport as well.
I heard a short demo of the Pro 8 and that blew me away.
If you have 2 of these, can you get stereo from say a mp3, or a cd player. one yt video said you can only get mono.
Bose is the most expensive,RCF Evox will compete with the sound quality of Bose..
@@edisonmirandilla2374 BOSE stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment. No highs and nor lows. It must be a Bose.
will one work with a crown of about 100 people?
I love her voice♥🎙🎶
Excelente comparacion de sistemas de audio, lo escuche una y otra vez y a mi punto de vista me decido por el Bose. gracias por esta Guia
I have owned 2 Bose systems (the first model unfortunately wasn’t able to be repaired and purchased the The L1 pro with 2x10 sub ;has been with Tonematch mixer has been a great workhorse but needed a less weighted system that would be easy to transport as I’m doing a tour and after trying a few systems I was sold on the Yamaha with its ease of setup ,breakdown and it does have a beautiful warmth ;
Channneling the sublime Jonie Mitchell. Love your voice, Brava
Thank you very much for this video!!!!
thx a lot ! beautiful voice and songs too !
Thank you. At home we have a large kitchen/breakfast area, in which I placed my big, fat, heavy, ugly JBL Eon One Line Array speaker four years ago. The sound is rich and pleasing (to me anyhow!) so it has sat there for four years. I have no motivation to try and sell or trade it in as I am very pleased with it played via a mixer. I just practice karaoke singing on it and my friends and I have karaoke fun now and then. I auditioned a Bose L1 Compact but wasn't that impressed. Well, the Eon One has truly pathetically weak Microphone Preamps (2 of them). I use a Mackie ProFX6v3 mixer to sing using the Eon One. I've also had a Bose S1Pro for four years. Last month I traded in the S1 Pro for a new Electro-Voice Everse8 portable battery powered speaker. Wow, so awesome! What a dramatic improvement over the Bose S1Pro! There is a fairly big learning curve though, to adjust the EQ settings on it. During the learning is when I realized that the EQ setting on my cellphone or tablet has a big influence on the quality of the sound I send to a speaker! Set the cellphone to "Classic" and the sound quality of pop songs will be pretty pathetic!!! Anyhow, I suspect the Everse8 uses the EQ circuitry that EV uses for the Evolve M series.
Great presentation.Great voice. Your beautiful.
wow. your music is beautiful!
Such a beautiful girl and she talk so nicely. As a DJ/ sound man for more than 35 years, time has come to downgrade now, and get rid of all my branded names, which I had during the years. I will make my mind up after this review. Nice review, keep up with the good work🎸🎵🎸🎵🎸
great review and voice.
Angelic voice.
Love that song with the Yamaha/Bose 8 👌🏾
Great Meg, that song with the Yamaha was really good
Ld systems maui 28 G2, maui 11G2, Maui 5 and EV Evolve 50/50M/30M also belonged in this round up, as did the Mackie SRM Flex and HK Audio Polar 10 and Polar 12. JBL have also just released a new line array PA system, the PRX1 which looks very impressive.
Evolve 30m or the Ld Maui 5 for playing saxophone busking old man of 60 🤔
@@davemcinnis6043 Evolve 30M is the better option with more features and bigger sound. Maui 5 is also good but not as loud with only one mic input and no fx. You can however get the battery powered version called the Maui 5 Go. If you already have an external mixer, the Maui 5 might be the better cheaper option. The Evolve 30M has a great built in digital mixer with full app control making it fully self contained.
Tried the new jbl bought the Bose instead
@@davemcinnis6043 Maui 5 would ok for small groups or rooms, I own the muai 44. the 44 is a tank, well made sounds amazing but not easy to move around and it's huge.
Came for the hardware...but stayed for the songs and voice 👍 Wich open tuning are you using?
JBL EON ONE Pro is a great Bluetooth speaker, worst here for instruments- horrible weak preamps! Also battery issues. I bought mine for $1,300 when it came out, recently saw it for $599! JBL should be replacing it soon. Bose Pro32/Sub2 was an incredible purchase!
You have clear and beautiful voice, Obviosuly it shone through superbly on Bose L1 Pro 32.
I wrote about my 4 year old JBL Eon One Line Array speaker below. Well, when I complained to JBL about the pathetically weak Mic preamps, they said they had a fix so I drove sixty miles to the nearest JBL repair center and the technician said he worked on the circuitry as per instructions from JBL. Well, that marginally improved the power (maybe 10% not sure) output from the mic preamps but still pretty inadequate. But I thought, using a Mackie mixer, the sound is rich with great fidelity and perfectly satisfactory volume, so the Eon One has been with us for 4 years and not going anywhere soon! :) I have seen reviews of the Eon One Pro which came after, and people were still lamenting about the poor mic preamps. Duh. Even the Eon One Pro is now obsolete, and the Eon One Mk2 is the current battery powered model.
Excellent review Meg, and really wonderfull music, very melodic 👍🏻
The JBL Eon 1 was so bad and full of bugs that they just released a MK2, after having read their customer's shocking experiences with lack of support from JBL I would never touch anything from JBL. RCF or Yamaha all the way 👍🏻
I love QSC, RCF, EV and Yamaha for anything pro audio related. They all do a great job just depends on the budget you are working with. I just recently bought the JBL EON ONE MK2. I have to say that I was very impressed with it. I Compared it to the RCF, EV and Bose systems. I was surprised that I actually liked the JBL better over all. Sound quality is great at all levels and the fact I can use I on battery power is a huge plus. As a life long JBL Hater, this system changed my mind. The JBL MK2 system is pretty awesome.
Would love to you your teams opinion on the LD Maila and Mawi systems, and maybe a comparison against the RCF Evox 12 too
Meg: Could you help us by telling which one YOU prefer? The Yamaha has more features than the Bose-- but is the sound clarity as good???
Hooray. Meg’s back.
The turbosound ip2000 should have been included.
Wow the room mic sounds a lot better.
Your singing voice doesn’t half confuse me. It’s a blend of Dot Allison and Neil Young !!!!!! Very nice 👍🏼
She has a beautiful voice and is an absolute stunner.
@@madness8556 me recordó a mazi star ,clara sencilla y con mucho talento.
You forgot db technologies es503. Cheap, lightweight, loud and it can split the top for stereo sound thanks to the 3 Channel amplifier
Great review but, the music... OMG. Wonderful! How can we get it?
Muy buena comparación y x lo que escuche creo q BOSE tiene un sonido más fino creo q BOSE me convenció 😊
yamaha sounds the best here
what about the Bose L1 16 I'm looking to replace my large Yamaha speakers, told old to luge them around. This is for karaoke typically 100 people
Nothing Here Can Touch ! The Bose L1 Pro Models Hands Down !
Absolutely correct Bose is the best
RCF EVOX JMIX8 👍
Would be nice to see a comparison involving the LD Systems Maui 11G2 - I have two of these from my ex band PA and I'd like to se ehow they stack up against the Big Name Boys.
Superb demo video, Megan!
What are those gorgeous songs you 're singing? Any chance they're available for purchase/download?
Hi Steve, all of Meg's music is available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music, just search for Megan Linford..same for her social channels, we're sure she'd appreciate a follow. Thanks for watching, enjoy!
@@PMTVUK Thank you, kindly. It's David, by the way : - ).
The evo had the best reverb
Studiomaster have a few good offerings too.
Unfortunately, you left out the best one; the LD Maui 11 G2. I’ve worked with line arrays (from JBL, Bose, and Turbosound). I can’t speak to Yamaha but the Maui isEXCELLENT! Having wood enclosure for the bass component is unbeatable and it sounds amazing!
I’ve heard the Maui’s as the band I was playing alongside me had them. When I heard them they lacked clarity compared to my EV Evolve 50’s. Even the band said they preferred the EV’s but the Maui’s are much cheaper!
HK AUDIO POLAR 12 excelente
Just had a small performance outside with a small band. (Guitar, bass, drums, singer.) Used a Bose Pro16 and WHAT an embarrassment! I sold this thing to the guys as something that would allow us to hear our vocals, yet not feedback. Well, all it DID was feedback! I'm so humiliated and I just cannot figure out what went wrong. Anyone else have any experience with such a band and line-array PA systems? Did I pick the wrong one ... where did I go wrong?
Please can anyone recommend best Column Array PA for digital piano, vocals and Minus-One backing tracks?
Or, indeed, non-Column Array (I've been thinking of trying out a Roland KC400!)
Hardly any reviews use this combination as a benchmark and it would be great get some ideas from other people.
She needs a pay raise.
What's the best option for Dj's
Um can we talk about these beautiful songs Meg is singing? Meg, did you write these?
I like the Yamaha pa the best all round. Meg what is that guitar you are platiy, it sound beautiful? ❤️
OK, you have an acoustic guitar/vocal gig, and room in your car for _one_ of these systems: which one do you choose, and why? Or, if none of these is your first choice, what amp do you take to the gig?
I play acoustic guitar/vocal gigs every week. I have the RCF. I use it for pubs, parties, private functions, etc., and it has served me very well. Plenty loud enough and is excellent for playing music from your phone. Hella loud, thumping bass, and easy to set up. X
Who knows if the RCF Evox internal effects circuitry can handle hours of overdriven techno, low frequency beats, i.e. massive vibration?
How does this PA systems compare to the Polar system, specifically the Polar 12 by HK audio?
HK Audio polar 10, has a far better balanced sound than any of the ones you described and a 1000w rms and 127db
es verdad hk es potente , claro
lo super recomiendo más que los demás
Don't get one that doesn't have individual tone controls on each channel , my mistake with the Galaxy , had to buy a separate mixer
These systems are usually shown with guitar players but I use a mic, keyboards AND a drum machine, so I ask, in my case, which would be the most recommended ? I feel inclined towards the Yamaha Stagepass but I'd appreciate your opinion regarding this...
Thank You, Blessings from San Juan PR 🇵🇷 !!!
Definitely anything but Bose as Bose is a "compromise." It doesn't give the whole spectrum of frequencies. It may work well for the acoustic guitar but not electronic instruments.
Correction, there is no compression on the StagePas 1K.
Can we play Roland HPD 20 handsonic on JBL PRX ONe line column array PA system?
Meg needs a fanpage😀
How to aquire this good player of yours
My question is where do I get to learn more about Meg?
Playing in small space for only few friends and family. I need speaker for vocal and acoustic guitar using mic not pickup, any advice? Thanks
I never understand why the demos are always different on these videos. We can’t compare like for like when the song is different and heck even a different guitar 🎸
😎👍
make a video on fender bullet mustang i am pretty sure lot of people want that
pls
Great review and wonderful singing and playing Meg. You omitted the Bose L1 Pro 16. How does that compare to the Yamaha Stagepass 1K in terms of sonics and power?
Maybe even a little prettier than Dagan, and that voice! 🤩
Which one is better for karoake singing for hindi language?Pls reply
Our friend has Bose L1 pro. We always eagerly wait for a karaoke night at his place. Simply outstanding
To my ears, Bose Pro 8 sounded best here. I also have the Bose Compacts and JBL Eon ones -Both of which have their strengths.
same....
EON 600 series is garbage, the extra couple hundred for some QSCs would have been well worth the money from my experience. JBL has just become crap since Harmon bought out JBL and sent manufacturing outside of the US
@@DooDooDisco opinó lo mismo que tú, no soy profesional en audio ,pero mis oidos me dicen que antes, jbl era mejor que hoy.
Thanks for explaining in detail... please advise me for Indian Hindi songs and Gazals...Bose L1 pro16 and JBL prx one, which of these should I go for...I want good base.
Which one you selected?
@@diujay You haven't given any advice for a long time then I brought EV Evolve30M, but not happy with, now planning to buy Bose pro16. Will it be right?
@@gunjansingh625 why ev30m not good ?? Do you have any video? Playing hindi songs?
@@diujay I can make video for you, but how will you watch?

I want to buy ev30m or ev50m for bollywoold live show. 🤔
Peavey LN?
Hey all! Would you say that the Yamaha is suitable for an audience of 150 persons? Quiet and listening audience, that is. I am a solo performer playing (swedish) folk songs.
Absolutely. They are amazing. I have a pair. As you are a folk singer, I can say you can go well over 150, you may easily double that.
The Bose L1 Pro 32 wants to be good. It’s price is £2,500-£3,000 depending on the retailer!! 😳
No Fishman SA!?
Very Nice Musician 😏
You should have added the LD Maui 44 G2 far superior unit.
The Maui 44G2 is in a league of its own in terms of power, size, weight and cost. You also need an external mixer.
Didn't talk about Turbosound either.
bose l1 pro8 stands out from all the rest, why do you need a natural sounds when everyone is defending on eq's and reverb? not everyone of us is lucky enough to have a golden voice. We buy this system to make us sound better from vocals to instruments to entertain people and we are not after for that stupid natural sound.
Firstly these are colum array systems not line array systems...secondly I think you missed out the best sounding one in this type of catagory which is probably the Maui 28 G2 and thirdly I think these systems are generally all a bit lacking compared to a proper PA system. Finally though nice voice and playing ...
Unfortunately you left off the best system! The LD MAURI 28 G2.
I tried them all side by side on the shop floor and the LD MAURI was the best by far IMHO in terms of size, sound, bass response, Bluetooth, etc.
Anyone interested in such a PA should check it out.💁🏼♀️
Sorry k-array
Michelle the Maui 28G2 is a very impressive sounding system but I hope that LD Systems would release something like it with a more comprehensive mixer section with at least 4 mic inputs, eq, dynamics, effects and an app.
@@madness8556 I just use a small Yamaha mixer with mine so don’t have the need for those features.
@@MichelleTaylor1 I have a small Behringer mixer that would also partner perfectly with the Maui 28G2. What I really like about the Maui is that it's got a full column of speakers and this was clearly noticed when I compared it alongside an EV Evolve 50 a few months ago in my local music store. The Evolve had nice low and high end but lacked a nice warm midrange IMHO whereas the Maui was much better in the mids. What size gigs could you do with a single unit?
@@madness8556
I can’t offer an experienced reply to that as I have only ever used 2 units in a band, duo, trio, situation but they have worked outstandingly well both indoors and outdoors.
Rcf
Mucho mejor que L1 compact, pro8, pro 16 ,pro 32...etc....RCF Evox...
Jbl sounded flat both bose sounded amazing
Her voice sounded greatest with the Bose 8
Meg,,please make me a take a good decision... For a singer which one of these brands sound real clear rich sound: Bose L1 Pro 8 , or he others????
Bose Pro series for vocals.
all of these are garbage, Danley speakers sound insanely better, get louder, and require less boxes to get the volume and coverage than any competitors out there.
@@DooDooDiscoAre we talking the same price range?
@@WWeiss-nv5vz When you consider than 1 Danley TH-118 (single 18 sub, that is one of the most tonally/musically accurate on the market) can outperform nearly 2 JBL SRX728s (best JBL subs - dual 18's available that aren't install/touring).....they are reasonably the same price for the performance.
I dunno if you've tried to move dual 18's around by yourself...but it really sucks. being able to have 1 single 18 sub vs 3-4 other 18 subs is a back saver and requires a lot less investment in amps as well....getting a lot more for the power.
1 danley TH-118 and 1 Danley SH96 will get louder, hit lower and sound 1000 times better than any full JBL/Bose/EV stack. Shit 1 TH-118 and 1 SH96 per side would outperform many cheap line arrays consisting of many many boxes and sound way better.
just depends on if you want to spend money up front one the best you can get, or spending more money over the long run getting more boxes to reach the same sound output which requires more amps, more power and if you are a mobile DJ or sound guy - that requires a larger truck/trailer/van to transport - ultimately spending more money, and energy moving around to get subpar sound quality and output.
@@DooDooDisco Thanks for the heads up, will look into it. I have been using RCF TT line for my top speakers. How do they compare?
So, you made a video about the best line array systems and decided to put a bunch of consumer small format column array systems in it. You might want to change the title.
You not demo the JBL prx one and the Bose pro $4.300 as to the JBL prx only $2500 and same power and mixer and effect
