2023: from the Yonge Street Strip and Yorkville Village in Toronto, Canada - John K. and the Sparrows. They broke up because you couldn't hit it big internationally from Canada. Some members ended up in California and became Steppenwolf. The name Steppenwolf is a tribute to the greatest piece of German literature by the same name by the author Herman Hesse. John immigrated to Canada from Germany in the late 50s. Believe me, The Sparrows could bring it.

Krauledat is the shorten Germanised Lithuanian surname. Joachim Kraulėdaitis -- his true Lithuanian surname. There is even Kraulėdaičiai village near Tilžė ("Tilsit" in German) town, where he was born.. There are are more Lithuanian villages with the same name on both sides of the Lithuanian river Nemunas.. :)

This song is sometimes called the first hevie metal due to the fact that the string of it "Heavy Metal Thunder" gave the name of the genre of rock music. She is also called the Biker anthem of the late 1960s - the beginning of the 1970s after it was sounded in the cult film "Easy Rider" (1969)

So true. When I left home at age 18 in 1970, I broke every rule I'd ever learned and lived to tell it. Anyone who didn't do drugs was a 'straight' and soon I rarely associated with them except immediate family. Born to be wild. Yes indeed. So many of my friends died from overdose. I was a lucky fool.

At the time, Steppenwolf represented the Acid Edge of Rock. Their music was thought of as a different approach. A kind of wise abandon. The lyrics of Rock Me say it all. The "She" in the song is the new consciousness of youth:
She asked me maybe I could share her sorrow
For all the men that tried to treat her wrong
Though just a baby, awaiting her tomorrow
It's rock me baby, rock me baby, all night long.
She needs an answer to her confusion
Someone to guide her with tenderness,
But when she's askin' for a solution,
All that she gets, you know, is something like this:
I don't know where we come from,
Don't know where we're goin' to,
But if all this should have a reason,
We would be the last to know
So let's just hope there is a promised land.
    Hang on 'til then,
    As best as you can.
Ev'rybody's ills, you know it fills her with compassion.
That's why she tries to save the world alone.
She helps the needy in her own fashion,
And tries to give them all her own.
She needs an answer to her confusion.
Someone to guide her with tenderness.
But when she's askin' for a solution,
All that she gets, you know, is
    Something like this:
I don't know where we come from
Don't know where we're goin' to
But if all this should have a reason
We would be the last to know
So let's just hope there is a promised land
    Hang on 'til then
    As best as you can

Little did they know how many countless times their song would be used all through American culture for more than 50 years and counting.
I used this song as a soundtrack for a ski video I made. It was the perfect song!

    Get your motor runnin'
    Head out on the highway
    Lookin' for adventure
    And whatever comes our way
Yeah Good I gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
    And explode into space
    I like smoke and lightning
    HEAVY METAL Thunder
    Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah God I gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
    And explode into space
    Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
    We can climb so high
    I never wanna die
    Born to be wild
    Get your motor runnin'
    Head out on the highway
