I struggled for years accepting Pineda. At times his native accent comes through heavily and it used to detract from the authenticity for me. However, after time I had to give in to the fact that he is amazingly gifted and certainly has the tone and vocal range to cover the old Perry songs. Journey found a diamond in the rough here and are still alive thanks to Pineda's exceptional voice. Both are profiting from the relationship.
Neil Schon has great pair of ears. The guru of music. He made an excellent choice in picking Arnel Pineda. Today, Journey is ALIVE and continuously climbing up.

I just seen Journey last night at SaskTel Centre Saskatoon…. even the sound system was pretty bad, the lead singer, Arnel Pineda was amazingly talented! He’s full if energy, running up and down the stage and he’s still able to reach the high notes. All the Journey songs are so high but Arnel’s voice was perfect! They did not sing my favorite song, After All This Years but I love the concert overall❤

He has made a living with Steve Perry's entire body of work handed to him by a dying band....and by studying and using his vocal choices from old vids and recordings. When he sings any new Journey songs people get up to use the bathroom and intermission. Nobody wants to hear anything from him but 'other peoples music' because as i agree, he is an EXCELLENT cover band singer....but does not find his own interesting vocal choices in music of his own....Perry made those songs and brought them to life with a natural knowing and letting his voice go to those places.
