Hey, thanks for sharing the OpenBOR game from a friend of mine. Btw, I am an OpenBOR game developper too and recently I released a 8bit-like beat em up called Pocket Dimensional Clash 2, and I would love to hear your impressions about it :)
That He-Man game is freaking amazing. It was even playable on the Wii! Sadly, I was only able to play it by myself. Would love to have a 4 player session.
Zelda II The Adventure of Link Remake is the ultimate version of this game, absolutely amazing, it add tons of new stuff, item, dungeon, new game + and more. This is my #1 fan game ever.
Super Mario Bros. Crossover is legitimately one of the best fan games I've ever played. Exploding Rabbit did amazing work on it. Hope he comes back to it one day. Thanks for the heads up on using the version 3.0. Also, amazing list! Please make another compilation like this one. I know of some good freeware indy games that could use some love :)
Thank you for putting me on to AM2R . I'm a classic Metroid fan(Super Metroid,Zero Mission and Fusion). They actually have an AM2R app that's downloadable on Android with full controller support. That's what I'm working through now on hard mode. You earned a like and sub from me bub 👍🏿
Castlevania Revamped and AM2R are the jam for me. I loved both. While I never completely finished AM2R, I did beat Castlevania Revamped. It was alot of fun.
Check out 8bitslasher’s NES games where you get to play as Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Candyman. They used to be flash games in the late 90s that the guy made and he demade for the NES in recent years.
Dude! These look epic. I'dplay all 5. Scott was most excited about the He-man one where I thought Castlevania Revamp was hella cool! Yes, please do another. Hope you're doing well 😊
The reason why Lion-O is in that He-Man game despite being from completely different series, is most probably because of that one crossover they had in the comics, where Lion-O saved He-Man's life after he had appeared in Eternia, and Lion-O even appeared in DC at one point where he was in Metropolis and worked with Superman.
Saga4 was a fun tribute to final fantasy legend 1-3. It is a little hard to find, it was revamped as secret of varonis and is on steam, but just having the original music in the first iteration made it a winner for me.
Another great fangame kinda similar to Super Mario Crossover is/was Rom Check Fail, which uses the characters from a bunch of early Arcade games in one another's stages.
On one hand, I LOVE AM2R, it's such a good game. On the other hand, I kind of understand Nintendo's C&D, at least to a degree. Not only were they releasing, by complete surprise, their own remake, but the guys from AM2R, as you said, used Nintendo assets for their remake. Frankly, with all the time Nintendo had to send that C&D, and seeing how they even were able to release their fan remake for a few days before the C&D arrived, I kinda think Nintendo were trying to be nice (for their standards in this kind of things) by letting the game be released before putting an end to it. As for the other games, I've beaten Abobo's big adventure, it's a very fun game, and I've played Super Mario Crossover some years ago, I'll have to check what's new with the more recent versions. I'll have to check the castlevania and he-man games, they look fun!
I was so hyped for it. I was there when the countdown reached 0. I think they issued the c&d the next day or the day after. I think they allowed him to release it. Heck, they probably wanted to play it too! 😂
@@joeszymanski3540 I mean, it's not the only fan remake they stopped, there was a 2D remake of Prime, too, but that one got a C&D in the first stages and was, as far as I know, less known. So yeah, maybe I'm being too optimistic, but it did feel like Nintendo gave AM2R at least the chance to be finished before shooting it down.
@@lenlimboThat's true & yeah that one was promising too. I just think they could have stopped it before it was released, I think Milton worked on it for like 10 years. Whatever the reason I'm just glad it got released... Probably one of my favorite games.
4:58 I have an Xbox Series X controller with a type-c cable plugged into my laptop which I use for pretty much 98% of my gaming sessions I bought on Amazon when it went on sale back in April with the other one being my Hori FC Octa for Xbox which is excellent for shmups imo, not just 2D fighters because of its analog stick. I have an ASUS F15 laptop btw which is my gaming laptop I got for my birthday and use it for Steam and emulation.
More good fan games are always welcome to me. There are far too many fan games and hacks (of all quality levels) to keep up on the all-time bests and recent best ones. There's that one ROM hacking site which has a lot, and they recently added a list on the most popular NES/Famicom hacks, but I seem to be missing the way to find the most popular ones site wide. Fan translations of great games locked behind language barriers (such as games limited to Brazil or Japan) would also be interesting.
Super Mario Bros Crossover doesn't work. It loads and then black screens. It even left yellow outlines around my screen and now I gotta restart my PC. I tried windowed mode and the same thing.
You didn't mention a HUGE fanmade remaster of "Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" called "Zelda Again: Link is Adventuresome". It's a gorgeous masterpiece that keeps getting updates!
I’m technically illiterate can someone please help me and tell me how I can play double dragon reloaded? Can I play it on my phone? Or do i need a laptop? I Have a Mac is that an issue?
Cool stuff! 🙂 I still need to find a programmer (again) for a game I'd like to have created, but I don't know if I have the strength (or the budget) to start all over again.
So I didn't like that Samus Returns from Nintendo. What I didn't like was the melee "counter" system, I also didn't like that analogue shooting where you have more then 8 directions. That new Contra from WayForward does the same thing, it just doesn't feel "right" to me lol.
Samus Returns was absolute ass! It breaks my heart to a million pieces to know that Milton Guasti was C&D'd from AM2R so that mess could release. In a perfect world, Nintendo would have hired Milton as a freelancer to finish AM2R with a bit of help from some of their resources. With it finished, they could have released it as a flagship title for Switch's then upcoming launch. That would absolutely have been a system seller.
Which one? There's the one with the graphical overhaul, and then there's Resurrection of Ganon. The latter was an incredible experience and all the new content made it SUCH a robust game! I've played a lot of fan games, but that one is on a different level.
@@billlange9408 Amida's Curse is a rom hack of Zelda II, but very well done as well. Obviously not on the level as Hoverbat's due to Amida's Curse following rom limitations. Still it managed to create a much explorable game that was on a level higher than the original ZII.
Such a great video... until you took the Lord's name in vain at the end. For many Christians, that's like hearing the "N-word" to us. Food for thought if you care about that kind of thing.
Thanks for sharing these, I'm so going to play a few of these, also i believe there is a simon quest revamped, or there was, gotta find it again as i lost all my faved stuff, anyway, stay awesome.
abobo's big adventure is amazing. so many easter eggs, references and call backs for any retro gamer.

The Masters Of The Universe game looks amazing.
Wow, even the original He-Man didn’t have animations that smooth😂

That He-Man game is pretty awesome, though a bit on the tough side for me.
coming back to this board, see everybody soon
That fucking HE-MAN looks great!!!
He said it looks straight from the cartoon... Go back and watch the cartoon, this game looks way better.

These companies should realize that they could make a lot of money by making these kinds of games. They could make them quickly and for fairly cheap.

My biggest gripe about Metroid 2 for 3DS is that is not enough enemy variety outside of bosses.
Castlevania Revamped is excellent I really enjoyed it
Omg Abobos Big Adventure is SO much fun. I played it years ago. Now feels like a fever dream.
Thanks!! Sweet freakin games!! All these fan made games are 🔥!!!!
You should do sequels! But based on games that are physically released actual hardware! Like NES, SNES, Genesis, ect...
Can't say I've played any of the other games but the Double Dragon game was amazing
