My number 1 will always be Tamiya Falcon. My first car back in the 80s, had it for several years and it sadly got stolen which broke my heart. I have however got hold of one recently from your good self Gav. Thank you so much mate.

Ahhh the nostalgia. Back in around 1988 me and a friend belonged to a small buggy club in Norfolk called Stalham Buggy Club. My mate had a Shumacher Cougar and I had a Tamiya Astute which was about as robust as a small moth, but it did run a Kyosho Mega Motor which seemed reasonable back then. These things weren't particularly quick, but they did look cool.

    For me,
    - Hornet - my first RC exposure. My neighbour had one!
    - Marui Big Bear - my first kit. I have a 95% NIB to build sitting here 😍
    - Yokomo YZ10 works - was the halo car when I first got into racing.
    - RC10 Graphite (as above, but the 2nd version!)
    - Losi XX - my first full race level kit. I have a XX-CR KE here, the ultimate iteration.
    - Losi XX4 - changed 4th racing buggy architecture
    - Hotshot - the very first 4th car to be raced widely
    - Kyosho Turbo Burns - always lusted after these in the kyosho catalog

RC10 gold pan... I have had the most fun racing with it....had and still have a couple (I have an ultra-rare carbon fiber tub !!.. no sh*t!)
RC10 Worlds ... no longer have it, but it was great car - sold it
RC10L pan car - narrow and wide for oval track and carpet racing (do you remember capped tires?) - still have them
Ultima... good racer until I got an RC10 - sold it
Kyosho Wildcat - first rc car - .10 size glow fuel engine --- RARE to find one of these nowadays... they were kinda rare back then - 1983 ish - sold it
Hornet... My First electric car - gave it away
Fox - my second electric car - junked and tossed
Marui Big Bear - bouncy fun -- spec racer at my local track - gave it away

    My top 10
    1. Tamiya Wild One, my first RC bought for £25 at a car boot sale. Now have a rere with replica original decals.
    2. Tamiya Manta Ray, my first new RC car and I still have it and restored it during lockdown.
    3. Tamiya Top Force, the Manta Rays big brother.
    4. Kyosho Ultima. My dad bought one in the late 80’s at a car boot sale and I restored it and sold it on around 10 years ago. Now have a rere.
    5. Tamiya Clod Buster. Remember when Tamiya released it and couldn’t afford one. Now have one I am restoring.
    6. Kyosho Optima Mid. Always wanted one back in the day and now have a rere.
    7. Schumacher Cougar, same as the Mid.
    8. Tamiya Avante/Egress, top of the range back in the day and would love to have one on the shelf.
    9. Tamiya Porsche 959/Toyota Celica Gp B
    10. Tamiya Nissan King Cab. I had a Toyota Hilux Monster Racer (restored and sold on) but the King Cab is the one I really wanted.

Dream collection - RC10 Worlds, Graphite Stealth Team Car, B2.
JRX Buggys - JRX Pro SE, XXCR-KE,
All of the Kyosho Legendary Series.
    Egress, TRF buggies.

No real particular order, except for the XX4, that is by far my favourite car.
    1 Team Losi XX4 (gen 1)
    2 Yokomo YZ10 94
    3 Team Losi XX
    4 Associated RC10 Worlds Car
    5 Tenth Technology Predator XK98
    6 Durango DEX410
    7 Schumacher CAT 2000
    8 Schumacher Cougar 2000
9 Mardave 1/8th Nitro Stock Car
    10 Mardave Mini Stock Car
The XX4 changed 4wd off road so much when it was released, there was nothing else like it, it made all the other manufacturers step up their game so they could compete with it.

It has to be a King cab for me. I sold my commodore 64 to buy one for £140 when i was 11, only to find when i got to the model shop i hadn't realized that it didn't come with electrics (newb). in the end i bought a Bear Hawk with electrics. Loved that car but always wished i could of had the King Cab.I did get a used one a couple of years ago and cleaned it up but i could never get the diff sorted but sold it for a nice profit. Would love to have a King Cab new in Box.
Love your channel. keep it up.

    In no particular order.
My Tamiya King Hauler. I have wanted one for over 30 years after seeing them in Beatties
My Kyosho Lazer zxr which I used to race in the 90’s
My Schumacher pro cat which I also used to race in the 90’s.
My NIB Rc10 Worlds car. I met Brian Kinwald at the 1993 IFMAR world championships in Basildon. Finally got one a few years ago.
My Works 91 and 94 Yokomo Super Dogfighters. I also met Masami Hirosaka at the 1993 worlds and always dreamed of having one as a teenager, but they were so rare and expensive. Super chuffed to have a few in my collection.
My Tamiya F103. I love formula 2 and have a few cars in my collection. I got the chance to drive it on carpet at the force raceway meeting and it handled like it was on rails.
My Tamiya lunchbox. I made it for my 4 year old daughter and painted it got pink. I have wanted one since I was a teenager. Hours of fun spent with her driving it around our local park and woods.
My 1/8 the scale Kyosho F1 car. It has two mega motors and is lovely to drive. Amazing engineering.
My Tamiya Dyna storm. Fell in love with this buggy when I drive my friends car in the nineties. Finally tracked one down in my price range that came with the pink acto power motor.
My clodbuster. Really fun to drive, my daughter loves driving it and chasing it around the park.

    In no particular order:
Schumacher Cougar 2000 - first and only build so far
Tenth Technologies Predator - when it first appeared so different
Tamiya Porsche 935 - A fave race car in RC form
Tamiya Avante - box art alone made me want on RC car as a kid
Yokomo YC10 - in all the '90's mags winning, gotta try it out
The one that started it all was a '80's BMW 3.0 CSL ready to run in black. Great starter. Absolutely loved it.
Only 6, I just need to get back into the hobby (I blame you!)
Ooo also fancy a Tamiya GR86 as the shell looks fantastic.

Nice video Gavin, there's just something about these old kits which just make them so special and better than the été buggys of today even if they are awesome.
OK here's my list of 10 iconic cars but not in any order.
1: Supershot (even today with a brushless moter and lipo it's just a beast)
2: The Hornet. My first ever kit.
3: The Monster beetle. Just an iconic representation of monster trucks in the 80s
    4:The falcon
5: The Astute. Tamiya's first ever competition level 2wd buggy.
6: The Egress, Tamiya's first ever competition 4wd buggy
7: The Cat XLS Because well, we all dreamed of having a Cat.
8: The Thundershot, my first ever 4wd buggy. ICONIC ❤️😍
9: Mardave Mini. I had one and it was a blast.
10: The Striker! And why you might say? Because it's just an iconic marmite buggy 😂❤️
I've enjoyed making this list, hope you enjoyed reading it.

Great subject! I may jump in and out of here over the next 12hrs. So my list maybe amended due to juggling work, life.
My top vintage cars is going to be Optimas. And I have the honor to currently have one. There are so many variations of the Optima. The mid, the Turbo, Sling Shot and all the aftermarket conversions. Just going to lump them in together. Chain drive Optimas are my favorite.
Custom Works Dominator. This is another 4WD chain driven car optimized for dirt oval racing. Custom Works is a R/C company with a history of being owned by various drivers from NASCAR. They still produce some state of the art R/C oval cars but the chain drive Dominator is a legacy car that was brutal on the track and a master piece on the shelf. I am humble and elated to be the custodian of a stone stock (except for those hard to build leak prone shocks) Dominator and a small amount of spare parts. There was another car in the same category, the SRP-1 very very rare. I have only ever seen two. One racing against Dominators at the Ranch Pit Stop in the late 80's and a Custom Works Employee has one as a collectors piece. So the Custom Works Dominator is beloved #2.
#3 Marui Big Bear. It was my first "hobbyist grade" R/C vehicle. 1/12th scale monster truck with MOA motor on axle and a truly nice injection molded 90s Nissan truck body. 2WD incredibly MIP made several hop ups for the Big Bear and RC car action did an "how to" article on improving the steering. T&A machining made some really nice aluminum rims for it. I finally sold it to what was likely the only other Big Bear owner in Denver Colorado as parts by that time had dried up and Marui had faded from the scene. Now their a fortune on ebay. I did some research on Marui and at least up till covid they were still in business but were no longer making R/C cars and had gone on to concentrate on manufacturing paintball guns and accessories. I wonder with all this Re-re stuff going on if the tooling for this truck is still around. They made a selection of buggies as well. Be nice to see the big bear again and I bet MIP still has the blueprints for that indestructible slipper clutch and counter gear mod they made for it.
#4 Original Tamtec cars. Came with adjustable wheelbase or different versions with at least two wheelbase lengths. Really good preformance for the time. Came with what looked to be Tamiya 1/24th scale bodies from their line of static plastic kits.
Late 80s, I worked at Continental Airlines at LAX and someone discovered Tamtec cars. Suddenly at lunch time mechanics produced Tamtec cars from their tool boxes resplendent in 1/24-25 scale NASCAR bodies taken from plastic kits. The race surface was hangar floor. The preferred track was turn1 the nose gear of a 727 with turn2 and 3 being around the back side of the main gear. These guys would eat lunch with one hand and get a 20 lapper in a lunch break. I started to buy one but opted for an R/C submarine instead. Then found out how expensive the electronics for one of these was and it was a shelf queen. There was a track in Hawaiian Gardens California that had a indoor track and they ran a Tamtec class at least one summer and it was good racing. I know the Tamtec name resurfaced later but the cars didn't seem to have anything to do with the originals. I would really love to see a return of original Tamtec cars.
Have a great interest in many newer cars. But of the older vintage stuff I remember they were all great in their own way.

    Great choice
    I would add :
Yokomo yz 834 1st world champion 4x4 : it s a pure jewel and so unique engenireing approach.
Mugen bulldog : because it s the 1 st car of Mugen seiki 4wds
Hirobo Zerda and alien mid 4 : because they are true performer.
Kyosho ultima : because it s the first challenger of the rc10 and world champion 88(87??)
About tamiya : for me the hotshot was the car of my dream when i was young...

Awesome show as always 😊 it is always hard to rank your darlings and it is a combination of vintage and new. I’m more into the car itself rather if it is new or old but my first proper RC was the Kyosho Rocky but always wanted the top end version that I finally managed to get now and I also rebuilt my old Rocky to a 😊
    1. Kyosho Turbo Rocky
    2. Tamiya ta02sw Porsche 911 turbo rsr (I never saw that coming) it just overwhelmed me ❤️
    3. Kyosho Turbo Scorpion (don’t have one yet)
    4. Tamiya Ford F150 Ranger XLT (man! fell in love at first sight)
    5. Tamiya Egress (don’t have one yet) wow 🤩
    6. Avante Black Special
    7. Kyosho nostalgic series Ford GT40 (probably the sexiest car ever on earth)
    8. Kyosho Optima
    9. Kyosho Fantom EP
    10. Tamiya TA08Pro chassis (just a perfect balanced onroad chassis that even I was able to drive with some sort of control)
And as honorable mention, my white whale, the Kyosho series 1000 Advance ❤️ if I ever could get one nib I could die after that ❤️
    Best regards

Great Vid, point to note the Predator X11 is not a Tenth Technology product, the license to the Predator was sold to a RC parts supplier called Team Extreme and any differences from the X10 to the X11 were not either made or endorsed by the Original Predator Designer Richard Weatherly. It is not made by the original company or designer! So in many regards not really a authentic Tenth Technology Predator, that amazing linage ended with the X10 Predator!!!!

Anything AYK is next to impossible to get hold of.
Existence of AYK was a revelation to me (for a boy who only knew Tamiya, Kyosho and Tamiya-imitation on-road EP cars) . Even though only a year or two later, it was completely destroyed by Associated RC-12E in all kinds of competitions.

I'm in the lucky position of having bought most of the cars that I wanted to build when I got back into RC during lockdown. So here's my top 10, I'll start with the ones I bought cos I love them and finish with the ones that got away...
    1. Tamiya Hotshot
    2. Tamiya Hornet
    3. Tamiya Wild One (I ended up getting both versions in the recent re-re)
    4 . Tamiya Fox
    5. Tamiya Big Wig
    6. Tamiya Frog
    7. Tamiya Lunchbox
Now for the ones that got away
    8. Porsche 959
    9. Mardave Marauder - I always thought these looked such a beast
    10. Kyosho Optima (non-turbo). Yes I know I can still get this one, and it's on my list of stuff to get after I build the Thundershot I got the other day.
I should probably add the Egress to this too, but then where do I stop....

Funny you should have the Frog in there. I simply hate the ORV chassis, in almost every way. Its plastic spider cage frame doesn't lend itself to mounting electronics where and how you want them, making them hard to get to. It's weak on top of that. The suspension itself isn't particularly smooth or compliant and the transmission is both a pain to maintain (IMO) and in the original form, kinda brittle, and overall, it doesn't really handle all that well either.
That being said, a nicely built kit with a stunner paint job LOOKS fantastic, and possibly due to the box art having originally used pink, is one of few cars where it looks really "appropriate," in that color.
It almost made my list. :)
