I've had my mount (AVX) do that when using the ASIAir Plus 256 with a C8 plus getting mount disconnect errors on ASIAir. I'm now using NINA on a miniPC and hoping ZWO will fix the mount disconnects. I recently replaced my collimation screws with Bob's Knobs. I spent most of an evening trying to dial it in. I'm going to have to bring the scope out again to try to finish up the collimation. I'm trying a tri Bahtinov mask. I can see the collimation is slightly off but can't see the spikes move when adjusting the knobs. It's frustrating. I like my C8 as a galaxy and planet imager. Nebulas can wait. I can see why more experienced recommend a refractor for newcomers.I've spent more time troubleshooting equipment and software than imaging.

Unfortunately that is the pitfall with SCT's. I hope you get it figured out. Clear skies.

Thanks Jason. I was really nervous at first about collimating but once I started it was good.

Hi Everett, I would have thought you needed to bring the star more into focus to really fine tune your collimation. Almost to the airy disk?

You might be right. But it was first time collimating so just did the best I could. Thanks for the feedback 👍.

Hi Everest. New to your channel. I'm just starting out and love the content you provide ( the learning curve). I have the nexstar 8se with alt az.What mount are you using? Want to get an eq mount. Thanks

Hi Perry. The 8se is a good scope. And I had a Celestron CGEM1 mount. I'm glad you're enjoying the content on the channel. I no longer have the 8se or the mount. I went with a more wide field and compact solution.

Hello Everett. I realize that this video is more than 5 months old, but I had a question. A lot of online info that I've read recently states that you should roughly collimate your scope using the shadow in the donut like you did, but then do a final collimation on an in-focus star. All I get is a messy blob that wobbles around because of seeing. Have you tried to collimate using an in-focus star?

Hey John. I have not tried that way of collimation. I won't be able to try it due to the fact that I no longer have that scope. But this is good info to try it I get another SCT. Thanks for the comment.
