Fully agree! Defias Pillager has been in a great place in terms of livelihood and community vibe. There was no need to start this new hardcore server with the fresh launch. I’m excited to play fresh but disappointed that DP is going to lose a big chunk of players because of this
Preach, Jeff!! My boy, breath of fresh air. Merge DP and SR (HC Era). Collapse fresh into the HC Era at future date. It’s the best solution to what we have been given. Otherwise, Blizz just killed four of my level 60 HC toons without death. So much for Death = Delete. It’s just Blizz = Delete.

This is exactly what Warmane does. They have one server that progresses Tiers 7-10 over the course of a year and when the reset comes all your characters get transferred to the stasis server that doesn’t reset. It’s a simple system that works perfectly and the only reason I can imagine blizzard doesn’t adopt it is out of stubbornness.
Completely agree, the server situation on EU is very much the same, we have Stitches which has currently around 7 layers, and Nek'rosh which is dead. There were so many low effort things they could have announced instead. I was really hoping for guild wide self found, or at least some slight tweaks to the current solo self found model to make it more bearable (profession items for quests being more available), I hate how streamers appear to have a big say on the direction of things right now, and as you correctly point out, they will get bored waiting for BWL to release and quit most likely. I personally find a lot of their videos boring and pointless, watching some big name streamer who knows nothing about WoW die on hardcore because they don't know how aggro and leashing works isn't exactly exhilarating, but alas I am also a cynical boomer here!
I like the idea of the first merge. The second merge I'm not sure. Do hardcore players want HC to be based on era or are they open to new changes? This is an important question because inevitably when SoD ends, the question is, what do you do with those characters/features after the season ends and what QoL is era going to be receptive to.
I think you have a great point about the merging hardcore servers after the fresh delivery one finishes its life cycle. I also wish they would merge skull rock and defias pillager, and introduce server transfers off the fresh onto DP if that server does start to die
I played day 1 and I have to say, my memory is hazy about how much the mount cost. I remember saving 100g, but I wouldn't be able to say for certain whether it was the mount or training that cost 80g. I think they must have added the 10% discount later? My first character was a Tauren, so maybe I just hadn't gotten up to honored. I don't know. It was 20 years ago. Edit: I just listened again and noticed you said 40g. Ok, yeah no shot she would have misremembered 100g as 40g. Maybe she just misspoke because it comes at level 40?
@@brandonkellner2920 no, 100. I agree with Jeffo 100%. I remember more about classic than any other game I have played
It was around 40g (35g for the skill, 9g for mount) very late in TBC (patch 2.4.3), at the time I started playing. My friends bought the expensive mounts and I was low on gold. In a few days a patch came out that lowered the price and the level requirement to 30. Before that the price was 80g for riding and 20g for mount. If it wasn’t a silly mistake, we know that the lady who said that hasn’t played in vanilla.
Warmane implemented that idea for the WotLK servers. There was a perpetual one and a fresh that would feed into it every so often. I think they nuked the perpetual server somewhat recently, though.

Why do you think this not the optimal solution? Sure this will fragment the player base in the short term. But in the end I think the goal here is to launch new servers for people to play on and enjoy and then have 1 or 2 permanent servers per game version (classic, hardcore, etc) that people can essentially “bank” their toons on.
i think it'll bring in a lot more casual players again. Big time streamers and their audience are going to be engaged, which should reactivate a bunch of other players.
