I like to think Daisy is one of reasons why the whole Doom Guy and Isabelle stuff was taken so well by both communities. Don’t mess with Doomguy’s little animal friends.
The timing for this remake couldn't be a bigger coincidence, today I was rewatching some of your older videos (like the Bubsy one) and I was impressed by how things have changed since then while always keeping the git charm that makes me love your channel. Keep up the good work man, I love it!
The thing about the 32X version is that was ported directly from the DOS version by ID and rushed to be the first port, so that's why the music sucks (it's just MIDI instructions directly converted to the YM2612 and that never works well) and the game shows command lines when ended with cheats (since the cheats are keyboard inputs in the DOS version);
I think it's interesting that you would come to that conclusion with the command line if you cheated. Could you explain/cite a source? I think it's intentional (and not a crash). I thought that maybe you were referring to how a completed game would return to dos if the -warp command line parameter was used, but afaik that doesnt happen. Other than that, I can't see the connection.
27 years later, two demons huddle close while heavy metal blares around them. It was just a spur of the moment, that lead them to murder Daisy... and now their lives, as well as the lives of their entire race, are now forfeit. Because he will RIP and TEAR... until it's done.
9:40 the soundtrack of Doom on 32X sounds like a bunch of people taking a shit. It's like, who the hell came up with this stuff!? Composer: We need to make DOOM'S soundtrack compatible with the 32X's sound chip. How do you think it should sound? (an employee cuts the cheese) Composer: Perfect!
A remake of an older video, huh? With the polish of your modern content, this should be interesting. 10:30 Though that line is a bit funny now, for obvious reasons.
The 2010 video had annotations, but since this wonderful site disabled them in May '17, then subsequently deleted even all the existing ones sometime later... go figure.
8:01 getting serious Irisu Syndrome flashbacks. (very cool horror-ish puzzle game, by the way. The actual gameplay is nothing special, but the way the story ties together through the different endings and secrets is 👌)
It's true. If you somehow clear the level while dead, you finish the level and move on to the next as normal with one caveat: You start the next level with only a pistol. Custom WADs of course have made use of this feature, usually to make you do pistol starts at several points in their games.
Please play The NeverHood. It’s a Point-And-Click puzzle-adventure game from 1996. It’s on PC and PlayStation 1. It’s made by the same guy who made Earthworm Jim. But I swear, this is an amazing game. It is entirely Stop-Motion clay animation. It barely has the same level of weirdness as EWJ.
On the subject of Point-And-Click puzzle-adventure games he could also cover The Legend of Kyrandia trilogy by Westwood Studios (who also made the Command & Conquer games) that was only available for the PC and was never availble for consoles. There are lots of ways for the Main Character to die in the Kyrandia trilogy that each death could be classed as a different bad ending.
That SNES DOOM ending is actually close to the original DOS version. If you were to end Episode 1: Knee Deep In the Dead on any difficulty on the DOS version, then yes you would get teleported into that room where the demons kill you. In the DOS release however, you are actually supposed to die because in the story of DOOM 1 the demons kill you and you get sent to hell because you died. Thus this is why the second Episode is titled: The Shores Of Hell, as a continuation of the first episode. Though, I have absolutely no idea why the SNES version just boots you out without an explanation however. I hope someone found this comment helpful!
You can also play on Hey, Not Too Rough or Hurt Me Plenty and reach episodes 2 and 3 respectively by beating the previous episode and also get robbed of their respective endings and booted back to Title Screen Land. And there was no way DOOM II was going to get an SNES port even if it were technicaly possible, so it's understandable the ending scenes, including dead Daisy as that was originally the lead-in to DOOM II before Ultimate DOOM came along, would be dropped. Still hilarious they left in "badasses" for the bruiser Barons but got rid of "bastards" and "had its ass kicked" even though screen space wasn't a problem. Then again, the game barely fit on an SNES cart as it was. Also, Lub Lub will have to forfeit his immortality card for crimes against Cacodemons. Even inferior Cacodemons like the modern ones.
Oh, the episode 1 ending is the same either way. You don't survive in either case. Doomguy canonically dies there and that's why he's in Hell the next episode without all his weapons from ep 1. As for why he loses them after ep 2... I guess he dropped them while rappelling
