Amazing sound. Why has no one mentioned the Steeleye Span vocal version where 99% of us know and learnt this song from? Steeleye's version is from 1972 or 73 when I first heard it.
I play the Steeley Span version every Gaudete Sunday. It puts me in the right frame of mind for the coming Christmas,Maddy Prior’s voice is in the classic English folk style. I enjoyed this version as well.
@@dmrd222 Along the way I lost my LP of Now We are Six, the one with Thomas the Rhymer. If I remember rightly there were two versions of Gaudete on it.
Oooh! I am SO GLAD I found your video! I am crazy IN LOVE with this song and I am fascinated with period musical INSTRUMENTS! You made my Gaudete Sunday complete. Thank you so much!
This was so much fun to watch and listen to. Thank you. Gaudete Sunday has just ended here in London but I'm glad I clicked on this version just now with nyckelharpas (first time I'm hearing them). Love the woolly hat too!
Ich glaube zwar nicht, dass irgendjemand hier deutsch spricht, aber ich find das mega cool! Gut gemacht mit ausgefallenen Instrumenten und Spass dabei! Super
WoW... WoW... I just discovered '' kirsty money '' playing '' A Little Aquavit Waltz '' and there, I listen to the track '' Gaudete Christus est Natus '' ... WoW ... You are a diamond. You have extraordinary talent. I share with all, your crazy talent ... Thank you From Canada. of the `` 3 nyckelharpas ''
This Christmas carol is from the 16th century and is of Finnish/Swedish origin. The version made famous by Steeleye Span is beautiful, Maddy Prior is stupendous but their singing in Latin is funny, improbable (I'm Italian), but perhaps it could also be plausible and not very far from how it was sung in Latin at that time Anglo-Saxon world. However this instrumental version is very nice!
This amazing instrument's magnificent performance is beyond description , immeasurable , unfathomable and specutacular , and full of astounding , impressive , and wonderful , and comfortable to the ear and the mind , I'm just intoxicated with their breathtaking performance from Tokyo From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
Medeival tune. The instrument is interesting. A variant of a violin type instrument. Beautifully played. Steeleye Span introduced most of us to Gaudete.
Gaudete! Gaudete! Christus est natus ex Maria virgine, Gaudete! 1. Tempus adest gratiæ, hoc quod optabamus; Carmina letitiæ devotè reddamus. 2. Deus homo factus est, Natura mirante, Mundus renovatus est ả Christo regnante. 3. Ezechielis porta clausa pertransitur; Unde lux est orta, salus inuenitur. 4. Ergo nostra concio psallat iam in lustro; Benedicat Domino; salus Regi nostro.
I just found your channel tonight. I am watching lots of different versions of gaudete on UA-cam tonight. I really like your version! What is the instrument you are playing? What is the origin and history of it?
A great carol which really suits the nyckelharper. A great antidate to the commercial Christmas stuff that greets us in the palaces of commerce..

I rushed to buy the single when it first came out. It has been a Christmas favourite ever since. B side The Holly and the Ivy.

@@dmrd222 I've just looked up the discography, and think I may have a false memory. Was Gaudete not on the Now We are Six album?
This was awesome! It's like having a violin, cello, and guitar all in one.
First time I've seen this instrument. One of my favorite tunes too. Great performance. Thanks.
Absolutely fabulous. Thank you!
Félicitations ! Merci beaucoup pour cette remarquable interprétation !
Who knew such a scary looking weapon could make such a beautiful sound.

Ich stimme dazu. Ausgezeichnet.
Your performance is truly Medieval in spirit, captures the original feeling of the piece better than a prestigious choir.
As a member of a choir who will perform this piece today (11 Dec), I can only agree.

Wow ...
Anyone else see Alan partridge singing along to this? P.s. great performance
cool
I really enjoyed yhis, what is this instrument, I've never seen it before?
Miss Maddy's singing...
It's a Nickelharpa, instrument very rare,a sort of hurdy gurdy you play with a small bow 🤗
Christmas and yule are extreme opposites of the same day.
What are those funky instruments?
WOW, I love it! 😍😁😁💋💋💯
If a guitar, cello, and hurdy gurdy had a baby, I think it would be this instrument. Or maybe I'm totally ignorant. Both are possible.
Can you tell me the name of that instrument please.
That’s SO much fun and so sparky. Thank you all! How did you do this? Audio first or Jamulus, or what?
he world's biggest birthday party.
I just found your channel tonight. I am watching lots of different versions of gaudete on UA-cam tonight. I really like your version! What is the instrument you are playing? What is the origin and history of it?
That is a nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument. Usually used for folkmusic but there are some classical pieces on youtube too
Ihr müst den Text auch singen oder sollte das Instrumental sein?
What is that instrument your playing?
wearing her nisse hat!
Круто играешь, когда не танцуешь, круто танцуешь, когда не играешь)).
Please, let me put this here 0:50
What the heck are they playing ?
Szkoda, że bez tekstu.
Brawo!
Way to play it like an electric guitar
Eight hundred and first!
Ok that's good, but it really needs the lyrics/vocals to be more meaningful?
Beautiful ❤️❤️
