This video shows the operation of double overhead camshaft DOHC and the timing difference between normal camshaft and tuned camshaft for higher power output.
Please note that the CAM PROFILE shown here is NOT what you find in real world application. The real camshaft profile features ramp angles and profile curves to ease the valve train stresses.
The camshafts were modeled after the stock and "fast road" camshafts available for Fiat FIRE normally aspirated petrol engine 1242 cc 16V 80 Bhp 188A5000.
Just by thinking in the average RPM a 4 cylinder car gets, lets say 3K RPM, the crankshaft have to spin 50 times in one second, holy shit thats a lot of speed! Good animation!
Look at how fast the Benz Motor car revved. I used to think 500 RPM was slow, but to put it into a new perspective it was fast.
@@quantumleap4023 It’s really fast when you take into account the mass of the pistons. That’s a ton of force that has to be contained. There’s some videos of a valve train which are even more crazy.
I realise what 7000rpm is and how fast it is for an engine, but to see an animation of it moving at 7k rpm...that's amazing!
Yeah, and these engines run more than 100,000 miles and never break down once.
it is just mind blowing how these things last for years while getting brutally banged like that
I don't even want to drive my car anymore lol
isan moldonado LMFAOOOOO broo i thought the same thing😂
Its amazing that the piston would move that quickly. Really amazing
I would love for you to do an animation of the RGM SELF-SEALING PISTON.
It was patented back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Its unique properties were the piston head was made of Aluminum and Silica, and during production the molten mixture was poured into a spinning mold which forced the silica (ceramic) particles to the outer curved edge of the piston. The piston head itself was very light from the design being hollowed underside with structural ribbing throughout giving it a strong yet very light and durable structure. (___) The edges curved and the whole piston head was screwed directly onto a Torlon polymer resin shaft *_with No wristpin_*. The shaft bolted directly onto the crankshaft with bearing races .
The ignition would heat up the edge of the piston and the ceramic would swell slightly and seal against the cylinder walls.
The edges curved to accommodate the motion and remained sealed against the cylinder.
The rocking motion of the head would create a turbulent vortex inside as the air and gas mixture was drawn into the cylinder for a much better gas mix that produced a better ignition and dod not waste gas like regular cylinder.
It dyno'd out at 19,000 RPMs on a single cylinder from a Cosworth racing engine that was cut down for testing purposes.
The inventors name is Ralph Gordon Morgado (RGM).
He had patents in 14 countries worldwide, but when the first Iraq war broke out investors stopped and Ralph went onto invent other things .
I still think this design was so simple and effective it was genius. He even had some top racing teams involved from Michael Andretti to Roger Penske and they supplied the engine for R &D.
I wish it had come to production because I feel it was one of those once in a lifetime deals that should have got off the ground, but for whatever reason it didn't.
Look it up. It's in the archives of the U.S. PATENT office under
the SELF SEALING PISTON.
ENJOY
This was awesome, great explanation without all the wording 🙏🏼👍🏼
Just what i was looking for! Thanks for the upload!!
Hard to believe that something like this can operate for long periods of time without problems.
Great animation! Most people think the exhaust valve doesn't open until BDC.
1:53 When VTEC kicks in
I thought VTEC was just an engine from Honda that more fuel efficient? VTEC increased the HP?
@@rylannn8193I know this is 2 years late but VTEC is the process of electronic controlled valve timing. When the motor hits a certain RPM, the computer electronically controls the cams going from low lift short duration, too longer lift with longer duration of the valves.
was looking for something to explain the #'s. thanks for this!
Nice animation!
It is very interesting !
Es muy interesante !
the music is too good i added to the favorite !!!
Wow...a engine really spins at 7000rpm...it's amazing it does not exploed alot more....
Do you never ride a motorcycle?
7000rpm is pretty average to low in a petrol car lol... most bikes are 10k and sportbikes are near 20k lmao
thank you!
Thanks a lot!
Who ever invited the internal combustion engine is incredibly smart
good vidéo miroshi-san
Thank you 😊
Now imagine if the crankshaft was off balance by a few grams... All hell would break loose
Yeah and it will mess up your engine badly
very nice and good
Nice video
thanks
Nice vedio
At first I didnt know which valve was which, so I thought it was pushing out intake gas lmfao
That's probably why people loves hondas, for example the F20C, 9K rpm with lifted cam in high rpm, piece of engineering...
Where’s the spark plug?
Civic says good morning! 😵
Fire engine FIAT 1242cc 16v
Interesting
can oversize valves make contact with each other if you have a longer duration?
Need to see double piston cyl
2:01 Racing cam overlap intake with exhaust so at low rev it's rough
Engineering at its best
Punto 1.2 16v sporting
pls i want known d difference btw ECM & ECVA
I can't imagine the speed when my bike his 19.5k RPM. Thats 19500RPM not 1950RPM.
xMinimalistic CBR250rr ! I have one aswell
xMinimalistic Yeah. But what's more impressive is piston speed. Anyone can get a tiny thing to spin fast. Not so easy to get a big thing to spin fast..
I came.
I creampied.
I saw.
Lol you're not the only one.
Here we go.
how to calculate optimal valve timing? regarding max. power given RPM
must find one with vtec!
Power-Phull
Interesting video. absolutely no need for blasphemous comments though.
Sau,l Marcia There is always a need for them. How else will ignorant people get educated?
Can we do engine balancing in cad ?
HI, IF 4 CYLIDER ENGINE... RPM IS CALCULATED FOR ONLY 1 CYLINDER OR TOTAL ALL CYLINDER? EXAMPLE EACH CYLINDER IS 1000 RPM FOR 4 CYL... SO ON TACHOMETER WILL APPEAR 4000 RPM.
yeah but that's only if it's properly calibrated, any flaw will corrupt the entire mechanism.
Brilliant animation killed by a freaky music (!)
Now i know what the fuck im doing to my EcoBoost engine.
Lets try rx7 rotary speed
I bet that dohc was choppin like a mf! Womp womp womp womp womp womp
hi what program it s this
Imagine seeing an F1 engine.
7000rpm in 30fps? we need 7000fps video.
Well, you are wrong, cause 7000 rpm mean 7000 rounds per Minute and not per second. 7000 rpm means 116.6 rounds per second , so we would need a 120 fps video to completely capture the motion.
@@MrSARS13 let that man live omg 🤧🤧 savage
Why all people like 272¤ ?
music plz
draude - sandstrom
And to think my motor bike revs to 14.5k I don’t even want to ride it anymore
from what I'm told the best setting on a honda ing timing is 14 degs for for most bang

4 valve per cylinder ...
is it DOHC??
Amirul Haziq being as two cam shafts are shown, one could come to the conclusion that 2 cams are dual over head cams (DOHC).
Open Close I concur
Amirul Haziq
yes it was
Fuck. Thats amazing to see in action. That right there is what moves our wheels forward. I just wish i could be the guy who finds a way to achieve that exact thing without gasoline. Id be a trillionaire.lol electric cars are awesome, but to achieve this is too expensive for them.
+Nike Raikage so you hate gasoline??????
+MElekiaZ where did u read that?
+Nike Raikage U want to build an electric car that dies that? ok.... ID say kickstarter :D
Nike Raikage Alcohol. Does the same thing, isn't gasoline.
177SCmaro You mean Ethanol, it's used right now in Brazil, but cranking at cold temp is a nightmare.
Vtec
Change the music ......!!!!
I'm a mechanic so i knew all of that, but, i'm a biker, and 500 - 7000RPM is the RPM for a car. On motorcycles your idle is basically around 3000RPM / 4000RPM,and the rev limiter on some bikes are at 15 000RPM... Can you all now imagine how fast an engine is? This animation was only 7000, now imagine a 15 000RPM 😂
The piston head will hits the valve by using fast road camshaft..
Sometime pistons have little divits in them that the valve fits in just a bit soo that it can work without beating the shit out of itself.
video looks good... but technical it will not work....as per your video intake valve opening before fully closing of exhaust valve....engine can note run at this situation...company gives exact timing for closing and opening of vales.....u cant make it better bcoz company gives you best.... but u can tune n alter every part of a engine for increasing horse power....but engine timing cannot be altered or tuned...
It can and does work. It's called overlap.
actually it does work and give more power by accelerating the exhaust
Check mate homey
you need that setup for using turbo charger or NOS.
it does...
vehicles used for race use it...
the one in d video was vtec of honda...
advancing the time to open an delay in closing makes advantage in high most rpm band making the boost needed to run faster...
in vvt-i it only either delay the closing of intake and advance the exhaust opening to acheive the boost...
different but the same in purpose
