A great way I've accidentally found to practice this is playing in the snow, no way to throw off balance if you'd fall before the throw even came out!

Wow. The coaching point at 12:50 about the hips locking out made me understand why my right hip/lower back has been hurting. I've been driving all my energy into that hip and not releasing it, because I'm swinging down. If I can swing up, then my hips will naturally open up and I should get more distance and less pain.

what's your method of fixing this problem cause i've been experiencing the same problem with the lower back? is it just keeping the hips up?

Just found your channel today, and I have probably watched more content than I can effectively digest in one day. I started playing disc golf in March 2022. Not only am I impressed with your progress, but the quality and quantity of the content you have put out in such a short time. I am in your corner, man! I look forward to seeing more of your journey. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

The biggest...and I mean BIGGEST advice I ever received was to keep my back straight. Even if you are bending for a hyzer release, keep your back straight. It helped with my form A TON

I am super appreciative of this type of content as I’m building my own backhand but this type of content for forehand would be more novel. If you search UA-cam for forehand form you get a handful of useful content that really breaks it down. If you were able to post something this thorough for forehand it would be huge.

    • @rolazrei
      @rolazrei Рік тому +1

Every video with provable forehand distance 450-500+ glosses over some points, makes contradictory statements about palm up where pros pronate, uses blurry full speed shot review, and fails to discuss all of arm swing mechanics, grip and finger positioning, and hit point.

planning on doing this when I work on it, but this channel isn't a coaching channel and more following my journey which right now is on the backhand. As I look to develop forehand later either this year or next offseason you can expect a similar type of content there!

@@BodanzaDiscGolf I 100% respect the way you run your channel. My intent was to indicate a hole that could be filled in the algorithm that would give good visibility to your channel more than telling you what content to produce. I think I was one of your first 1000 followers and I love everything you put out. Much love, keep it up!

@@rolazrei exactly this! I started my game with an intuitive forehand form but I have arthritis and as I started adding power to my throw I learned quickly that my form was terrible and unsustainable. It's been a painful (literally and figuratively) process to rebuild my form and the lack of clear content is frustrating. My backhand distance is better than my forehand now after about four months of research and consistent field work and my forehand is frozen at 300' and not consistent. I'm still primarily a forehand player because I can hit my lines inside 275 with confidence but adding distance has been illusive. the more info is out there the more likely it is that you find something that clicks. There's an embarrassment of riches for backhand and a pittance for critical forehand breakdowns.

@@wreagin1 I for sure know that and wasn't intending to say you didn't! I know you're one of my long time supporters and I appreciate that a ton, my comment was more to just give a timeline of when that could potentially go up honestly! Definitely wanting to do that, but really trying to dial in my BH form before this season so I can do the best I can and either in the season or after work a lot on what you're saying would be good!! Really appreciate your support, you're always super thoughtful with your comments!

A lot of good points here. I wanted to share a few things as food for thought/kind advice from the trenches.
I'd encourage you to look into "side bend," which is more often talked about in ball golf and missing it is to the detriment of a disc golfer. For some reason a lot of instructors out there don't talk about this much, and I think it's because they do it without realizing it, or they don't do it and compensate for it (I did too for a while). The reason that your swim move is coming in with your forearm almost parallel to the ground is because you lack this side behind. And your whole form is compensating for it.
Your weight is trapped between your feet throwing in a "horse stance" or "power stance" in golf (Steve Pratt has a good video on this called "The Power Stance is Killing Your Drive Distance"). This is part of why you tend to rise into the swing over top of your hip when you swing rather than remaining compressed and clearing your front hip more quickly and effortlessly like Simon. You are getting jammed and posted on the front leg rather than dropping onto it and letting it swing your hips and body through more naturally. This is very hard to change swinging at full speed and is a more fundamental balance problem (mine came from karate but a lot of other developing players suffer from it too!). I'm a big fan of Seabas22's "Ride the Bull" drill for this. Doing it in a big range of motion is helping me fix it myself.
You should be getting 400' or more with much less effort than you're putting in if you spend time slowing down and fixing those issues.
How do I know? Well, I read and watch too much and am fixing these issues in my own form.
Sincerely: someone putting themselves through the grind. 🙂
Feel free to pass any of the above along to Josh, we talk from time to time. Keep up the hard work!

Ultimately it comes down to arm speed… The best pros find a way to be explosive for a split second and dial in the accuracy from there. There’s a myriad of different styles that work… find what works with your body type and roll with it!! Good comment

You should probably stop telling people how to potentially improve until you really see how to improve. I like your videos, but when you say you need this to do blah, you mostly are wrong. Listen to others better than you, and learn before trying to 'influence' because your current thoughts are bad for the sport in reality. Your work is good in exposing how to improve.

First of all, I'm pretty sure he's not talking about coaching others. Rather I think he's talking about the coaching he receives. He's said in multiple videos he doesn't want to be a coach or a trainer, and there's no mention of it on his website, Patreon, or his UA-cam channel. Second, just because he's not a trainer, doesn't mean he can't help others get better with their form. I doubt he'd teach other advanced players, but he would be capable to teach beginners or novices some things to help them get better. I think people can learn a lot from him in a variety of ways, even when it comes to learning how to improve in disc golf. 🙂
