Master The Classics: Lion's Tail
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 чер 2024
- First published in Cafe Royal Cocktail book by W.J. Tarling in 1937 this drink is an object of much fascination to bartenders as it’s a Bourbon drink which is tiki facing but not necessarily a tiki drink but created at the height of tiki popularity. This drink could very well have served as an inspiration to Eric Castro when he created the iron Ranger as the ideas are similar, but I don’t know that to be a fact, it’s purely conjecture on my part. Although not much is known about the origin of this drink it’s probable that it was an American Bartender driven to London by Prohibition. “Twisting The Lion’s Tail” was an American Slang expression for provoking the British which emerged during a period of American Anglophobia between World Wars.

Here's The Specs:
2oz Bourbon
.5oz Lime Juice
.5oz Allspice Dram
1 tsp Simple Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters - Навчання та стиль
This is my favorite winter cocktail.
hey, love the channel. quick question, will you be doing that video on how to handle large drink orders and your methods and flow?
Hi Leandro, I made my allspice over last few days and bottled it this morning. I have noted this recipe and it will be my first drink to use it. Nick from York
do you have a diy allspice dram recipe on your channel?
nice work mate
oh yeah...ohhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh
I served this at my bar and it was a hit! I used four roses small batch and made it with syrup de gomme instead of simple. Delicious drink
My local bar makes a variation of this with the addition of pineapple juice and rum. I'd love to see more all spice dram cocktails.
Great videos! Been keeping up for a while - always enjoy your methods. Quick question, what size coupe glass are you using in this video? I’m trying to decide if I should stick my bar with 5.5oz or 7oz coupe glasses. Thank you!
Stock*
Awesome thanks for watching this one is a 5.5oz coupe from Libbey and you can find them here: www.amazon.com/shop/theeducatedbarfly also 5.5 and 6oz coupes are what I use 7oz is a bit big for most cocktail specs
The Educated Barfly brilliant, thank you!
At 2.49 Leandro sounded like the Duff Brewery guy 😀. Have never heard of Allspice Dram but that's an impressive cocktail.
I have never tried the Allspice Dram before! This looks like a robust cocktail! But I will be creating this drink and will be adding a new bottle to my arsenal! Keep them coming!
Hey, big fan of the channel. May be a dumb question but is there a reason why you don't keep spirits in the freezer?
John Tanti cold dulls the flavor of spirts on the pallet. Vodka and White walker are the only ones I’ll put in the freezer.
that's a hell of a shake there, guy
I definitely want to give this a try - how long is the dram good for on the shelf?
Allspice dram is basically allspice berries macerated into Rum so it should last indefinitely.
Oh and I'm using St Elizabeth brand here but you could make your own.
@@TheEducatedBarfly Excellent - thank you
The new font looks nice, but it’s not as easy to read. I’m not sure I’m sold on it. Great video though, as always.
Why did i have a FIVE HOUR lego advertisment before this video
braineater713 like you are 5
@@volkanramazan1843 no i am not thats why im beyond confused.
If i was 5 i wouldnt be working in a distillery 😂
Maybe it's because you're not subscribed? :P
Though also a Buffalo trace product I think the older eagle rare may have served this cocktail better without driving up the cost.
Why you didn't chilled the glass?
We don't chill the glass in the tutorial so that the viewer can see more clearly, but if you make this at home or for someone you should serve in a chilled glass.
F**k me hard! Didnt try it but I love both the Dram and Bourbon! And I know both seperatly fit extremely good with pineapple. So an addition of pineapple to the Lions Tail? OMG!
How's about something with malort?!
LOL I'm not sure there is anything with Malort.
Unless your bar spoon is huge, one bar spoon is absolutely not a tsp. That’s basically .25 oz you’re adding, you’d probably need at least 4 bar spoons for that.
These bar spoons are exactly 1 US teaspoon (0.16oz). Are you thinking of tablespoon? A tablespoon is 0.5oz, so 4 bar spoons would be a little bit more than that.
The Educated Barfly most of the bar spoons I’ve used have been a .25 tsp each, with some bigger spoons being .5 tsp. I know some of the older spoons were a bit closer to tsp/tbs size.
I just tested mine out, and it fits a full teaspoon. I didn’t expect it to be that big, with how flat it looks.
well well well...... so..... Can we replace "Allspice Dram" for ..... ?!!!!
I dont think anything could stand in for allspice dram/pimento dram.. you could, however, make it yourself!
It wouldn't taste at all the same, but I'm willing to bet it would work great with campari
@@joshstead6078 worth trying!!!
What about fernet branca or maybe green/yellow chartreuse?
You can't, and please, don't use campari
Too acidic, maybe more demerara syrup or less lime juice
